> If your PC gets infected, immediately disconnect the LAN cable first.
- Disconnect the LAN cable immediately to prevent further spreading of the infection.
!!toostupid
@Bob actually in some cases that makes sense
@allquixotic She's a cat. She's beyond your petty human morality.
@Bob That's how it spreads!

this is actually pretty scary (and they're nice enough to warn you)

ugh
not liking the new FF theme much
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek ya
@JourneymanGeek though, if/when they get rid of the menu-on-alt, I think I really will leave
IE11 is actually pretty good
hm
considering waterfox and palemoon, actually
especially palemoon has a more conventional UI :P
(and they're also supposed to be faster - 64-bit and uses newer instructions)
07:26
@KronoS @slhck @terdon thanks guys :)
@Bob: I'm trying bvckup (on the client side) + smb to transfer files to the pi. I'm hitting close to 30 mb/s according to iftop ;p
(compared to 2mb/s earlier)
Bob
Bob
07:58
o.O
@JourneymanGeek that's.. not possible
wait, Mb or MB?
Mb
(though this is wireless -> router -> wire -> raspi)
08:18
Could laptop's battery life decrease fast due to Express Charge than Standard Charge?

1 hour later…
09:29
yew, the new bar sucks
Bob
Bob
@Gowtham considering a userscript to mimic the old one :P
probably not worth the effor, though
except maybe adding hot questions back
that's the most annoying change
@Bob: and removing the chat link
Bob

oh god, tumblr gifs

@JourneymanGeek Yay, mech keyboard preorder is gonna be shipped on the 11th
should be here just in time for Christmas, with any luck :P
yay
I need to clean my other keyboard :/
its completely covered in dust
Bob
Bob
o.O
@Bob: we have a few contruction sites nearby, and we have visitors who keep opening the window
it just needs a wipedown, but yanno
no one actually bothers to do these things

@Bob: brother's in laws are over and are sleeping in the room most of the tools and the shared computer is in

I'm keeping my empty-ish can for the little bits of dust :P
oh, we're far past canned air

I am orbiting for the first time
Though periapsis is 3200 meters so I don't think this will end well
12:35
@Paul KSP ♥
The only problem with that game is it's old game engine
It runs on a single core and doesn't use the GPU
and it needs a shit ton of RAM
13:20
@Gowtham All the tutorials seem to be for non-career mode, where you already have lots of options. Find a mix that will get high enough to do an orbit burn by trial and error is tricky in career mode. And if I get anywhere close to success, the pod parachute will fail without fail.
I think my question needs mod attention

Q: Windows 7/8 Access Point No Authentication/Encryption?

deed02392I want to use my laptop as an access point, but the default provided tool: netsh wlan hostednetwork only offers acting as an access point with WPA2. I want to create either no authentication or WEP (this is all my UART-WIFI chip supports): I have seen two 3rd party utilities in the wild for...

The question has been downvoted incorrectly IMO and the answer has been upvoted incorrectly (completely misses the point of the question)
@deed02392: thats not what mods do
@Paul lolol
they can't overturn a downvote or an upvote
Hmm
well the question on the whole is of pretty poor quality now then
I mean, I think it's a valid question
but the votes don't make any sense
13:25
@deed02392: might help to add what your chipset is
and is using a linux vm and a usb wifi card an option?
Well the actual issue I was wanting to solve has been now, but I wasn't able to find an answer elsewhere online
But I still think this might be something others might find useful
It's just lucky I'm able to run tcpdump on my router which is probably quite a rare ability
Could you at least upvote it if you think it's a valid question
The guy who downvoted it has since removed all his comments on the question anyway
@deed02392: the reason I asked is I recall some ralink adaptors came with software that allowed you to do this - it might be answerable assuming you had the right adaptor
and I suggested linux cause hostapd would work here
hmm
I hit 2K answers today :)

How about Connectify?
Hm well I'm at work now so can't check the chip, iirc it's a modern intel one (abgn) with 5 GHz etc.. I am absolutely confident it'd all be gravy in Linux but when you have only Win8 installed and nothing spare to boot linux off, you just want to download a program and it works
@Bob how 'bout it?
Bob
Bob
@deed02392 How about trying/using it?
13:40
ahh, so what I'm thinking of isn't as likely to work
@Bob what makes you think it will work? That kind of program isn't the sort of thing I should be researching at work
Bob
Bob
wat. TeamViewer 9?
connectify is likely to work
Bob
Bob
@deed02392 what makes you think it's not going to work?
...
I'll look when I get home in a few hours then
13:41
@deed02392: my bad, connectify is out
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek Ah, so no infrastructure with WEP? Bleh.
@deed02392: would setting up an ad-hock ap be an option?
yup
@JourneymanGeek the devices interface does offer an Ad-hoc based connection yeah
this is one of those wifi plugs in case you're wondering
@deed02392: that might be your solution then
I wanted to MITM its wireless connection so I could dump the on-off packets and reverse engineer it's protocol
I mean, as I said I achieved that by using tcpdump on my router
And have written a server emulator etc
(this is what happens when you ask a question on chat. If no one knows, we dissect it ;p)
yeah so really we just need an actual answer to this question, no need to dissect
Unless we all think there are always better ways
In which case maybe the best course is to remove the question
Bob
Bob
13:44
=> cheap router?
@Bob?
Bob
Bob
you can get a basic WiFi router for $10 now
o0
@Bob: really?
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek well, I got a decent one for $15 new
a tinkerer like me doesn't want to wait a week to receive a cheap router JUST for something like this
Bob
Bob
13:45
a really basic one? sure, why not
the cheapest I'm seeing is about 30 bucks
for those tiny tplinks
whether it's cheap or not
Bob
Bob
@deed02392 heh, I just went to a local store :P
haha
well here in the UK they'll laugh you out the store for something as cheap as that on the high street
(actually, tempted to get one of those that you can slot a wlan dongle in)
13:46
you're looking at £40 minimum for a router on the high street
ie $60+
@allquixotic hey what's wrong with the new bar
Bob
Bob
@deed02392 lack of hot questions :(
(I don't like the new location much)
might also reskin it to be lighter. stands out far too much
oh what
I thought they were updating the hot questions algorithm
not removing it
Bob
Bob
13:48
@deed02392 they also moved it to the middle right of the homepage
it's just an inconvenient spot
cheapest router I can find on dx is ~15usd
Bob
Bob
especially since I normalyl stay on the questions page, not the homepage
@deed02392 ouch
strange
Bob
Bob
any small electronics/computer stores?
that's the kind of price I'd expect from a chain store here
@Bob not really, all the chains out-compete them by far
there's a warehouse store but it's not easy for me to get to where I don't drive
they might sell one as low as $20-25
but basically, if you want cheap you have to order online
roll on drone deliveries
13:49
heh
Bob
Bob
ah here it is, the one I got: arc.com.au/pub.php?pid=43770&p=product
Oh, it was $22? Eh, close enough.
that was for a guest AP
@Bob: I need to consider setting up one ;p
we already have 2 APs though
but then what @Bob, how does one dump packets going through it
(oh and we have that unsecured AP downstairs ;p)
if it's that cheap it probably doesn't have that ability
13:51
@deed02392: just curious - what's your AP?
Have bookmarklets been disabled on FF?
I've got a Linksys E3000 @JourneymanGeek :)
Bob
Bob
@deed02392 you can chuck dd-wrt on it
Bob
Bob
or you cna put it after your computer
13:51
with Tomato on it
Bob
Bob
i.e. internet => computer => router => other dvice
and I found a build of tcpdump for it online
I nearly got a linksys but I've been hearing not so nice things about them
Bob
Bob
@ThatBrazilianGuy nah
ended up getting an asus
13:52
@Bob then you need two interfaces on your computer
Bob
Bob
but javascript: in the address bar has
which I suppose my laptop has
Bob
Bob
@deed02392 depends how you have it set up, but possibly, yes.
@Bob Doesn't all bookmarklets do that?
@deed02392: or like I do, you have a usb ethernet device in your spares bin
Bob
Bob
13:53
actually, there's another way, and it's what I have working with my raspberry pi router
(of course, drivers for it no longer exist for modern windows versions...)
I think I do @JourneymanGeek but I don't think it has any 64 bit drivers
Bob
Bob
@ThatBrazilianGuy no, they disabled the typed ones specifically
@JourneymanGeek ^
heh
@deed02392: damned thing is a relic. I do believe I've had it since my first PC build
Bob
Bob
13:54
@deed02392 basically, you have your router, you can put your computer behind it, and you set up a forwarding router/gateway on your computer
I can't use this (the "read now" bookmarklet) to read this of FF 25 linux =/
Not typed, but cliked from the favorites bar
Bob
Bob
you tell the compute rto use a static gateway (the router)
I got it from our network provider when we first upgraded to... 512 kbps! :o
Bob
Bob
then you set it up to broadcast DHCP (disable that on the router), with itself as the gateway
lol
old cable modem (which was a tank, only replaced it cause of VOIP)
Bob
Bob
13:54
any new device will send all packets to the computer, which will forward to the router gateway
it's hackish, but it works
(and it's my current throttling setup :D)
yeah it works @Bob, but we're still a long way from just having a nice open access point running under Windows :)
which should really be 5 minutes installing a program
Bob
Bob
@deed02392 that's just a way to get a hardware router to work
which I would prefer, anyway - I'd actually rather an additional hardware device over fiddling with wifi on my laptop -_-
@deed02392 Funnily enough, I often find ordering online from the UK is cheaper than online local :S
seriously @Bob?
and you're US?
Bob
Bob
@deed02392 Aus
US shipping to Aus is crazy
oh sorry, I was talking USD earlier
