a while ago on irc, someone told me that someone should come here to help debug an virtual appliance issue. i was told to ask for @hennes, @journeymangeek or @quixotic . the problem is with the archiveteam warrior vm. when it boots up, sometimes it gets stuck preparing the data partition. the person who wrote the original code hasn't responded in months.

a easy workaround would be to just format the virtualdisk yourself and mount it ;p

if you can change the line &> /dev/null to some file, or completely take it out, it should tell you what the hell actually is happening

and the way its picking unmounted disks seems... particularly ugly ... eww

I just noticed it is used in Linux which I have almost zero experience with... I have display output switching in my Dell Latitude. @Boris_yo It's your "run of the mill" I5 with 4GB ram amd an AMD6630M for the graphics. its ok but I haven't been able to re-install the fingerprint reader after formatting it with the Windows CD. Even with the drivers CD that comes with it.

Heh! Similar experience here with a Dell E6500 and the fingerprint reader.

Apparently I needed an older driver/package for that because the one Dell recommended was broken. Their fix? Get the older package and copy a dll from that.

@SurvMach Why you deleted it? It is your emergency fallback partition that allows you to repair, restore, reinstall Windows and OEM drivers. You won't find OEM drivers on common Windows CD so your option would be to download them from your laptop's manufacturer.

My main gripe with recovery partitions is that I do not know what they do.

E.g. Add two more partitions (one for applications, one for generic data).

@Ash it's more focused on doing exactly what they say and speaking in their terminology than the actual thought processes behind it

teachers and students get so adapted to learning by rote (memorization), and rewarding successful rote by having tests, which you don't retain for very long.... so a lot of people graduate with high-falootin' degrees and can't function in society

the problem is, people equate getting a degree with making more money, and they really want to make more money, so they do whatever they think will produce the greatest chance of them getting the degree -- which is usually repeatedly memorizing things for tests -- then when they get out into a real job, they realize they have no actual knowledge

knowledge sticks to your bones and you retain it instinctively for a long time; memorization evaporates when you sleep it off

maybe base e or base 1.1 or something... scale would go from 0 to 23 in base e, and 0 to 241 in base 1.1

Richter is log base 10, so the absolute magnitude in decimal of the Richter scale goes from 1 to 10 billion... "1 to 10" hardly captures the difference in magnitude between each increasing natural number... "1 to 23" doesn't do much better... "1 to 241" is a little more intuitive -- 241 is a lot bigger than, say, 155, on a purely linear scale
