@Ashlie ahhh, so you cannot even adjust things in the Bios still? If you were reallly really fast (or had reflex slow motion) could you even get to the "hardware monitors" section of the bios? To see the temperatures reach the ceiling before it (again) shut off?

@Ashlie Very few motherboards will also shut down (usually before the bios) if there is no fan SIGNAL seen on the cpu fan header.

@Ashlie Well your actualy in pretty good shape, probably better shape then you were in before. Because you could not even get the Text of the bios, if the cpu, the ram, the motherboard and the power were not existing in some way. If they were not connected to thier pins, and operating for at least some time.

@Ashlie There are still about 3 possible things that could cut it off though at that point. The first one i would want to analise would be the cpu cooler item, how it is seated, if the thermal goop is set in right, and that any of its mount items are all in place correct.

@Ashlie thats the clue. well it is only a small clue and it could be other things. Getting past the hard part of the windows boot for a overheated processor is harder than getting past the hard part of a linux boot. Windows jacks in the processor and puts it to work to do its evil bidding about near the end area of the windows logo thing.

@Ashlie well a new board could be at defaults anyway, but it wouldnt hurt to get it to defaults. I would say boot to a memtest 86 usb, but i am thinking ram would error and fault and ruin things, but it will not shut off the machine itself (usually) . Mentally in the situation you describe, it would be CPU , possible Fan signal, or really screwey power supply, because the PSU handles init

And init is a hard thing for the PSU to do, so it managed that operation.

@Ashlie well close enough, but i can not tell much about the seating from that. supposed to be mostly metal to metal connect occuring with a good thermal goop filling in a bit. Not sure if that is what it shows, it is a bit to blurry.

@Ashlie Init, when you turn on the power, and everything turns on at One Time, , all the capacitors are having to be charged up, it is a big boost of power. Initilisation is done tiered, to reduce the "all at once" load, but it is still a large power requirment for a short time.

@Ashlie I am guessing here the heatsync probably had the thicker goop that comes with the processor. it is usually "ok" stuff, but not very re-usable, Do you have proper thermal goop to replace it with? Between the stock looking heat sync, and the themal goop you probably are not getting really good cooling. probablly only adequite. (i am not knocking it, it just that you could fix it up a lot better mabey)

@Boris_yo I have seen those, very nice. I figured they were orignal HD signals, first gen instead of copied junk. Also are they easy ones to Compress? Meaning not much work for a compression alogrythm .

@Ashlie I would, and i would look under the goop and see if there is a copper core. We (almost) throw out regular intel Stock heatsyncs , but at least they can work IF that is only aluminum, then its worse than a stock intel. Then reset the goop, and make sure any mounting system is down right.
