@Psycogeek
i hope it was called an APU but i used to say SMPS.
@Ashlie whats a SMPS? Nooo, i would never tell you not to electrocute yourself, its a fun learning experience. I just didn want you ruining the power supply.
:-)
Bob
Bob
shit
@JourneymanGeek the blue FD does fade under the sun
it's been, what, two months?
still readable but definitely faded :(
but since there was no SMPS tag in superuser i thought that the english would say it as APU
correct me if i am wrong
@Psycogeek
also, back then i was DEFCON 1
@Ashlie I donno they are all just PSUs, some of them with more switching, vrses more linear magnetic transformer. All these abreviations . See Bobs Blue Floppy Disk is fading .
16:06
@Psycogeek my sincere apologies i meant PSU
but it turned out APU
like an APU from matrix
@Ashlie And you unplugged it from the matrix? Did it take the blue pill or the red one?
well, what makes you think you are not in the matrix ?
@Ashlie hmm, somewhere around here i got off track. what do you mean by it lasting 10 seconds into the boot exactaly? My system would be at the desktop by then. We need definitions.
@Ashlie We cant be in the matrix, crap is to real still. Did people clean thier rooms in the matrix? did they have to eat? did anybody ever do the dishes?
And where are My guns, i want lots and lots of guns. (mabey a machine gun if i dont get slow motion reflexes)
sure,they do dine in matrix
any how lets agree to desagree
@Ashlie no they only dine in "my dinner with andre" all other fake stuff they only drink.
actually i dont think they even ate then, just ordered stuff.
Its hard to read your lines , or fight agents with your mouth full. Thats what made .007 cool, he could go days without eating or going pee pee :-)
After all those martinies you would think. . . oh what were you saying?
16:18
oh boy, you were totally into matrix
i think u were born in one
and yet u dont realize it
:-)
@Ashlie is that what the thing is on my back, i thought it was a mole.
actually , u said it
"Its hard to read your lines"
and to understand it
Oh god, there is a flash drive stuck in it. It says Super ducky.
@Psycogeek often i dont get you , my english is weak
@Sammy Oh, thanks for the precious advices :) I will do what you said: first of all HDAT2 and try to fix, and then DBAN to obtain a low level format and a brand new-like hard drive. Thanks you again for the help. I will try those program soon.
16:24
@Psycogeek oh,i was about to tell you this , it turns out that the problem waswid the MOBO
and i gave it to the chiplevel service
they told me it was a problem wid power ic ?
"power ic " what on earth is it ?
i had to replace the MOBO
i put the system together with the new MOBO
but now this is the new problem
it power down in 10 s or so
i thought it was processor overheating & called a friend
but he told me that if it was over heating , it would show error
.
but there was no error
but it was abruptly powering down
ok hang on i must consult the oracle about this
he advised me to check the so called "PSU" or to remove and to insert CMOS
The answer is in the matrix, it is there in front of you all the time.
what if i close my eyes ?
@Ashlie How would a processor show an error, if it overheated and it or the board quit immediatly?
16:32
well i dont know but he said so
and i believed it
but there must be something like that.
is in't it?
@Ashlie The oracle told me if you believe it , it may very well be true. But if you do not want it to be true, then you need to review your faith mechanism.
(but that was just for me, and it could be different for you)
well there it is.
the "naked truth"
that ?
"?"
@Ashlie We would still need to know where in the data are the agents? What was your last observed thing before the code died?
i'm confused.is it about the MOBO or the MATRIX
i dont get the last comment
:-(
@Ashlie the motherboard is only the container for the matrix. The code is the key. What did you see before everything went black?
16:40
nothing
it was just blackout
as to say
@Ashlie and what did you hear? Or was the speaker for the motherboard jacked in?
nope
but every time i can reboot the matrix
hopefully not to find the glitch
"glitch being the os booting up"
@Ashlie If you did not even get the monitor to view anything, or even start to sync up with a signal, then what were the 10 seconds for?
Chances are good that the rest of what you dont know , is not in front of your eyes, but missing from your ears.
well monitor starts up
You must arrange for some speaker thing on the motherboard, because it very well could be trying to tell you something in code?
16:46
u mean buzzer?
or speaker from line out
i can c mobo manufacturer logo , windows boot menu
@Ashlie Yes at least the beeper thing, unless the MB is one of them special kind with (worthless) 2 digit led displays.
@Ashlie And it has taken you this long to tell us that ? So you have the windows logo, and for how long (this is on the test so get it right) did the windows logo show for , before it dies?
well this may be crazy but let me tell
it powerdown right after the menu
i dont eve get to c windows 7 logo
some times i boot up
go to bios but
@Psycogeek That's Binatrix
it powerdown abruptly
without any prior warning
@Psycogeek over
@Ashlie ahhh, so you cannot even adjust things in the Bios still? If you were reallly really fast (or had reflex slow motion) could you even get to the "hardware monitors" section of the bios? To see the temperatures reach the ceiling before it (again) shut off?
16:55
well i will give it a try
so you say that no other warning if its overheat
@Ashlie Very few motherboards will also shut down (usually before the bios) if there is no fan SIGNAL seen on the cpu fan header.
@Ashlie Well your actualy in pretty good shape, probably better shape then you were in before. Because you could not even get the Text of the bios, if the cpu, the ram, the motherboard and the power were not existing in some way. If they were not connected to thier pins, and operating for at least some time.
well i had done my home work.
@Ashlie There are still about 3 possible things that could cut it off though at that point. The first one i would want to analise would be the cpu cooler item, how it is seated, if the thermal goop is set in right, and that any of its mount items are all in place correct.
could you please wait ... ?
let me log into my linux machine
it has some photos of
my cpu fan
and processor top
i doubted if they were low on coolent
@Psycogeek over
any how i would be analyzing it.
but this is the crazy thing i want to share wid you
@Ashlie You don't use Dropbox to store photos?
17:05
@Boris_yo i barely use dropbox
Google Plus photos FTW !
i has a portable linux system in a pendrive and i managed to succesfully boot into it twice till i manually shut them down.
but later i was not able to do it
it was in between
the symptoms that i managed to bootinto my pendrive.
@Psycogeek
now you may consult the oracle
:-)
@Ashlie She brought cookies out of the oven, turned to me and said nothing.
well, looks like neo is out of luck
Perplexed i asked her what was the purpose of the cookies? She said, its not the cookies fool, its the oven.
your providing even more clues that lean it towards being a possible heat issue.
17:15
but how could i boot in twice ?
@Ashlie boot into windows or linux?
i booted into linux (crunch bang ) in a usb twice .
from this very same system
which was suffering from this issue
but now i cant
@Ashlie thats the clue. well it is only a small clue and it could be other things. Getting past the hard part of the windows boot for a overheated processor is harder than getting past the hard part of a linux boot. Windows jacks in the processor and puts it to work to do its evil bidding about near the end area of the windows logo thing.
well i now has the access to my pc.
i wll post the pics in matter of seconds
@Ashlie -- Had you yet reset the bios to work at a default level? I am assuming your friend (who is probably a supervisor) had already instructed you in that process?

Q: Part of the power connector broken and stuck inside laptop power jack - how to fix?

Wuschelbeutel KartoffelhuhnI have a Samsung ultrabook (the Apple-clone type that is not easily customizable and looks like it was made out of one part) and the insulating (wider part, not the actual center pin wire that carries the electricity) part of the power connector stuck inside laptop power jack. I can still charg...

there is so much wat in this question
the center pin... last I checked, that was a signal wire, not power-carrying
pipette to remove the stuck part??
@Ashlie well a new board could be at defaults anyway, but it wouldnt hurt to get it to defaults. I would say boot to a memtest 86 usb, but i am thinking ram would error and fault and ruin things, but it will not shut off the machine itself (usually) . Mentally in the situation you describe, it would be CPU , possible Fan signal, or really screwey power supply, because the PSU handles init
And init is a hard thing for the PSU to do, so it managed that operation.
@Ashlie (some things i shouldnt say outloud) looks like a dried up shitstain on the processor :-)
17:34
:-)
so what do you think ?
is it the cpu ?
also what do you mean by " PSU handles init"
@Ashlie well close enough, but i can not tell much about the seating from that. supposed to be mostly metal to metal connect occuring with a good thermal goop filling in a bit. Not sure if that is what it shows, it is a bit to blurry.
@Ashlie Init, when you turn on the power, and everything turns on at One Time, , all the capacitors are having to be charged up, it is a big boost of power. Initilisation is done tiered, to reduce the "all at once" load, but it is still a large power requirment for a short time.
but it is managed by os
am i correct
@Ashlie before os, is the one i was referring to. after handoff then the OS takes it further still.
well, i get it
, now
how to check if the board is in default so that i may give it a quick check
@Ashlie Does that heat sync have a Copper core? or is it all aluminum?
17:44
i guess its aluminum
or i have to take it out
@Ashlie What is the cpu item model name and socket type?
@Bob Pipette? Why not tweezers?
the new one is zebronics socket 775 ZEB-945
the older one was asus P5KPL-CM
@Ashlie see that on i could remember longer :-)
@Ashlie The cpu though what is its speed or model number? number of cores and all?
Its pentium d thats all i know
but i wll ping back as soon i get the numbers
17:54
@Ashlie I am guessing here the heatsync probably had the thicker goop that comes with the processor. it is usually "ok" stuff, but not very re-usable, Do you have proper thermal goop to replace it with? Between the stock looking heat sync, and the themal goop you probably are not getting really good cooling. probablly only adequite. (i am not knocking it, it just that you could fix it up a lot better mabey)
What's the reason some 360p YouTube videos look like they are 720p?
i am not having it currently but wll surely get some if its really the problem with the coolent
@Boris_yo I have seen those, very nice. I figured they were orignal HD signals, first gen instead of copied junk. Also are they easy ones to Compress? Meaning not much work for a compression alogrythm .
@Ashlie I would, and i would look under the goop and see if there is a copper core. We (almost) throw out regular intel Stock heatsyncs , but at least they can work IF that is only aluminum, then its worse than a stock intel. Then reset the goop, and make sure any mounting system is down right.
i wll .
i will run the tests again and report to you later
@Ashlie The one thing about overdoing and perfecting anything, after you get done you can usually Ignore that item, and move on to something else. When things are a bit off, you always have to wonder.
18:03
thanks for the insights you gave me.
in India (my country) teacher is god.
and thanks again for all those insights and informations you gave me
@Ashlie ok well i hope you get it working. if you need a better heatsync, just stop by california :-) i have a few , never been used.
sure ;-)
@Psycogeek I don't think original source is the only reason. There must be something else...
@Psycogeek if i gets a chance
@Boris_yo They are oddly clear, I look to see if resolution is set to AUTO or something (it wasn't). That mabey the newer video or flash or something is actually higher than it says? Got an example?
18:22
@Psycogeek No, I didn't save links to videos that I encountered.
@Psycogeek Maybe try some National Geographic?

@Pennf0lio Welcome to Root Access chat for Super Users! Please don't ask if you can ask or if anyone's around; just ask your question, and if anyone's free and interested they'll help.
Thanks! I need help modifying the metadata of my image being generated by finder (Mac) or my Adobe lightroom.
I need it to be reseted to the unmodified version. Is there a way I can prevent finder or lightroom from updating metadata from the image I modified?
example scenario:

image1.jpg has an original last opened field of september 1, 2013 and when i modified it inside Ligthroom it will be updated to the day today. I want to avoid that process where Lightroom or finder or my system from updating the dates.

> I tried this for a test: echo "reboot" | at 23:17pm today, but it says "Unknown pm".
23:00
@Braiam: Has to be one of the values of locale LC_TIME -k | grep ^am_pm so I think you'll want uppercase PM.
OMG! @Tom did you read correctly? There is a 23:00 pm in any clock in this world? You either use 1-12 am/pm or 00-23 without am/pm, and that's wy it isn't allowed :(
@Braiam Yes, I just figured.
Didn't check the actual tokens yet, so was assuming a wrong line matched it; same error as yours. :D
should put down the man page and just think about it; but well, it's late so such mistakes happen...
huh? I didn't make a mistake. That was other user post asking why it said "Unknonwn pm"... :/
With SUSE Linux, they always say "Have a lot of fun" - from the German "Viel Spaß":
> All of the values from the LC_TIME categories in the POSIX locale shall be recognized in a case-insensitive manner.

The slogan is as old as SUSE itself - see upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7a/…
Heh, why don't they put this in the am_pm definition; it's a bit odd for the full text to specify more details than the tokens are defined. :(
but there isn't a locale that allows the 24hrs and the 12hrs format in the same command, so... put the darn chocolate sundae asside
You can make your own one if you want to. :D
Just above the third disc, on the box, it reads:
> Have a lot of fun... Der S.u.S.E Team
@Braiam If you don't refer to a post you can't assume others to know that.
23:12
or something similar - the last few words are very hard to read
@tom I was using the quote mark, so others should assume it weren't my words
@Braiam Neither should they assume it are words of other people.
