I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate this countrie's telecom with all the very essence of my immortal soul. May their descendants be cursed and their lands sprinkled with salt.
A HTTP proxy that ignores HTTP headers... well... that's not an HTTP proxy now, is it?
But he doesn't mention ignoring, accepting or passing on headers. Just 'running on' headers.
As far as I know, "headers" isn't a power source.

Or any hardware, or OS, or interpreter. Or anything else you could 'run on'.
Unless...
@somequixotic My current guess is he wants a proxy server that will perform a DNS lookup (against a specific DNS server) on the specified host and forward the request as a normal proxy server.
Since he mentioned some hack involving the hosts file (causing normal lookups to return a local address).
But... the alternatives you mentioned (Fiddler, etc.) do the same in a much cleaner way...
Any of you guys have experience with sending SMS over a GSM modem? Like a proper setup, not the shit suggestions for email-to-sms that you find on SO :P
I already looked up all kinds of stuff online for a proper setup that might work, so no need to google for me ;P But if anyone can provide some first-hand experience, that'd be great
Short Message Service (SMS) is a text messaging service component of phone, web, or mobile communication systems, using standardized communications protocols that allow the exchange of short text messages between fixed line or mobile phone devices.
SMS is the most widely used data application in the world, with 3.5 billion active users, or 78% of all mobile phone subscribers. The term "SMS" is used for all types of short text messaging and the user activity itself in many parts of the world. SMS is also employed in direct marketing, known as SMS marketing.
SMS as used on modern hand...
> SMS was originally designed as part of GSM, but is now available on a wide range of networks, including 3G networks.
most modems come with their own software, that can often send SMSes
probably not as scriptable, though
> SMS Gateway will work with any device that supports Mobile Originate & Terminate SMS via a serial connection as per the ETSI 07.05 “Block” or “PDU” mode protocol, as per our Hardware page.
Interesting. So, there is a (somewhat) standard protocol.
I've heard a lot of mention of AT commands. Like you basically have serial, text-based communication with the modem and can control it through said AT commands
> Generally any phone capable of AT commands or IrMC should be supported. Also any Nokia phone using Nokia OS should work. For Symbian please check separate topic. You can check other user experiences in Gammu Phones Database .
> Forget about using standard phones, they tend not to be reliable for long time connection to PC. Best option are GSM (GPRS, UMTS) terminals/modems. The best option seem to be Siemens modems (eg. ES75/MC35i/MC55i). Slightly cheaper, while still good are modems made by Huawei (eg. E160/E220/E1750/...). You can check other user experiences in Gammu Phones Database
at least some of the listed Huawei ones are definitely 3G modems
@JourneymanGeek Would you mind expanding on this answer a little? :P (there's so little information it sounds like you're just confirming something to yourself - it is your own question, but it feels like it's missing a chunk to me :)
for the record, I never got Virtu MVP to work particularly well, and furthermore there are two distinct hardware versions so if you're using the older hardware you're pretty much left out in the cold
also, they only support the latest (or sometimes the previous) WHQL release of the graphics drivers that were available when they were developing that particular release of the driver package for Virtu
so if a new WHQL driver comes out, you can't upgrade or you lose your Virtu -- and that goes for both the Intel driver and the discrete GPU
Apparently the iGPU Multi-Monitor setting under advanced/system agent configuration/graphics configuration needs to be turned on. This is labelled for being for virtu but is necessary for the integrated GPU to be detectable by windows, even if you arn't running virtu.
Obviously the location of t...
@Bob: that basically enables the integrated GPU with the onboard ;p
since thats what lucid does really
lol
confusing, yes?
expanded a bit
@Bob: Basically, the intel GPU does some things other than video output like transcoding better/faster than intel. Quick Sync will only work if you have a monitor plugged in - even if the monitor isn't getting an output. I wanted to do this to plug in a projector to my desktop tho, so I wanted to use both GPUs seperately
completely not a dupe, and a pretty interesting question
Yes, speeds for smartphone and desktop processors (as well as any other processors) are comparable in such a way, that 1 Hz equals 1 computational operation per second. In this way - assuming both CPUs have the same or similar instruction set and bus width - a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor can comp...
where do we get answers like this?
-_-
Huh. Did that other question about ARM/x86 efficiency get deleted, @JourneymanGeek?
Arm processors have been getting increasingly complex - so its an apple to orange comparison - arm has only had a 64 bit varient for about 2 years, and even within the same generation power use varies. Its probably fairer to consider contemporary ARM processors and their atom counterparts as anan...
HAve a guy been trying to contact me non stop for a while now on skype :/ finally online at the same time... Anyone know anything about this/anything else I should say!?
I have had the bad experience of being banned on Meta. I, too, didn't know that my actions could lead to limitations; I was unaware of the fact that deleting questions, or getting too many negative votes, or some kind of combination of those could lead to a ban.
I found the reasons for my ban a...
I'm not sure if I'm asking the question right, but I want to record sound, by connecting its output to my pc's mic input. Is this possible ?
I have a Line 6 POD 2.0 guitar processor, and a big jack to small jack adapter (see the image) , but I don't have any external audio card, so is there a wa...
i am having 160w AHUJA amplifier. output of amplifier line out can directly give input to pc line in(sound card) for record the mic sound..should i use convertor? if it so let me know? can any one help me to overcome this problm?
@JourneymanGeek Are you hooking up a system that will actually run Virtu? The reason i ask is to try and find out more about its uses, or its uselessness. One person writes that they screwed up the first version, and it isnt "faster" anyways, a lot of the original hype of it is gone.
My understanding is it is possible to utalise the "GPU" portion, as the second gpu card , sort of. to do the SLI or CF type thing. From what i am getting it is more like "to lasy to move a cable" software in the present implementation :-)
it adds a layer over the graphics subsystem, basically in one mode, it renders stuff on the discrete GPU, and sends it over software to the integral GPU
so the latter runs all the time, the former runs when needed
HOWEVER, all the bios setting for enabling it does is turn on the integral GPU if there's a discrete GPU present
@JourneymanGeek This work to move this data , is software based, and would require much movement of data over the bus, and how much CPU would be used ?
@JourneymanGeek Well the problem with getting the info there, they are full of themselves :-) they think it is the best thing in the world, and tell nothing of the ramifications. While i would still agree that is is Amasing to have done that
@JourneymanGeek (anandtech lucid) well that just raises 50 more questions. I know what is going to happen to me, i am going to spend 2 weeks switching things back and forth, and testing this and that, and running real things for real results. Then tossing the whole thing out and going back to the way it was :-)
@Boris_yo you could do what other experienced techs would do "if i didnt see it it didnt happen" :-) and " determined there was nothing wrong" these are sure to tick off the customer that paid to have an expert check why something was going wrong.
