are you ready to be chewed out for your characters acting like PCs

Eve doesn't care :D

Pandas saved, 10/10

6:02 PM
long-suffering sigh
Ginger said they'd have connection issues but I'd still like to wait around a bit to see if they show up at all

I shall transfer my laundry in the meantime

hmm, how long to wait?

heyo
eating lunch rn :p

nom

hey!
it's the next day and you're preparing to debrief with Grythal
whatcha doin?

6:13 PM
Eve is throwing knives.
;)
Is this an appropriate time to Compel my Trouble?

Sure

Fowler is currently in his room devouring a noodle cup that he made in the microwave, with Dollop perched on his hand trying to lap up some of the broth, and trying to practice some lines in his head for coffee with his roommate tomorrow so he can deliver them on the first try.
"I would like a grande Americano with soy, I would like a grande Americano with soy -"

stuff is misbehaving, you can assume Garrett is running late preparing a... "report"
I'll try my best to be available

Meeting is soon so y'all should probably head there. Were you planning to meet up before or just all arrive at the same place?

Do we still have the comms?

6:20 PM
Being still Terrified of the Extrovert, Fowler will probably make his way there on his own unless Eve comes to get him.

Garrett probably took them for diagnostics after the mission

Being the Reluctant Babysitter, Eve will probably leave the knife-throwing room with juuust enough time to meet up with Garrett and Fowler at the door.

Garrett is trying to pull the data logs off the tablet

Garrett, do you get there on time? You could roll Notice on the clock if you want

Fowler is lightly rocking himself back and forth on his heels when Eve arrives. He shoots her a nervous look. "Hey."

6:24 PM
"Fowler! How are you feeling after yesterday? A real action man, you were."

"Uh... sore." Fowler has been gulping down cough medicine all morning, and sounds slightly hoarse. "But better."

"Where's Dollop?"

Fowler sheepishly opens one half of his jacket, where a tiny Dollop head is poking out of an inside pocket. She tilts her head at Eve and peeps curiously.

Eve waves at the bird.

@bobble -1, heh

6:27 PM
"You were, um..." Fowler closes his jacket and seems to fumble for words for a moment. "...really cool. In there."

Fowler, Eve, it's time for the meeting. Garrett hasn't arrived yet

"Hey, that's my job."
"Any idea where Garrett is? Haven't seen them today yet."

Garrett, distracted by trying to find somewhere to put the wizard's flamethrower and monitoring the tablet's data transfer , glances at the clock about ten minutes too late

"No idea." It's hard to tell, but Fowler seems a little less nervous conversing than before. "Does Grythal get mad if you're late?"

Grythal definitely gets mad if you're late.

6:29 PM
"Oh, yeah. You should probably get in there." Eve doesn't appear too concerned about getting in there late.

As if on cue, the door blows open. "You're late."

Fowler jumps back on instinct, and anxiously takes out his much-bent paperclip from a pocket and starts rolling and bending it in his fingers. "Um," he contributes, valiantly.

"Oh, good morning, doc."

glare

Eve strolls in casually and plops down.

6:32 PM
Dr. Grythal peers around. "Where's the artif- Garrett, I believe?"

Fowler hunches in on himself and sheepishly tiptoes in after her, not making eye contact.

"Haven't seen 'en. Knowing G, probably with their arm inside some sort of device and lost track of time."

Muttering a curse under their breath, Garrett fumbles around the room for their notes and glances desperately at the tablet's progress
The flamethrower ends up stuffed upside-down inside a box of metal brackets ordered as replacements for a specific, prone-to-breaking part in the standard-issue storage bins the org uses

Wearing formal robes with enchanted embroidery making shifting patterns on the sleeves, Dr. Grythal sweeps back to his chair. "Well. You can start with the explaining."

Fowler gives Eve a beseeching please talk so I don't have to oh God look.

6:34 PM
"What's to explain, doc?"

"For one, why is there now a large hole where a door should be?"

"Panda thieves blew it up. I think."

"There were a lot of them," Fowler mumbles, finally mustering the courage to offer something. "They came prepared. And armed."

"How many is 'a lot'? Do you have IDs?"

"I mean, we left them knocked out and tied up. I'm sure the security there took their IDs."

6:38 PM
He sighs. "Do you want me to go back to the explosion questions?"
Garrett, feel free to show up whenever

"They were students," Fowler says, hesitantly.
He looks at Eve for confirmation that he's remembering correctly.

"Sure. Questions like 'how did you manage to stop panda thieves who had enough explosives to blow up a door and were willing to kill you' are fine."
"Students... I think more drop-outs."

"Because the evidence we have is of an artificy explosion. They didn't have any artificers, we don't think."

A faint noise, as of metal on tile, is audible from the top of the stairwell

The door is closed but you can hear the talking through it.

6:42 PM
Eve shrugs. "Not my area, sorry. I was more dealing with the knife-throwing insane ex-girlfriend. Why don't you ask Garrett?"

Fowler is drumming his leg anxiously, making his chair groan faintly. Creak-creak-creak.

Garrett, sweating slightly, opens the door with a sheaf of papers in one hand and the tablet in the other. The ethereal-seeming cable trails from its side down the stairs and out of sight.

"Garrett?" Dr. Grythal raises his voice. "Would you care to explain the artificy explosion?"

Garrett has the same look on their face that they did when the panda keeper asked about their license
"That, uh... Fowler was stuck in the enclosure, I did it to get him out, y'see"

His gaze drills directly at you. "Was there not another door?"

6:46 PM
"They were -" Fowler clears his throat in a strained way, attempting to help. "The other door was locked. We were trapped with the assassins and there was limited time. They would have killed us and maybe hurt the pandas. They had to..."

"I couldn't really tell how much time I had to get- get the door open"
"Had to force it, I would've liked to be more careful"

"Would you care to put that in writing? I meet with the Grethens this afternoon."

"Oh, we can come to the meeting."

Garrett falls silent, fiddling with the tablet

"We were just sent to... to evaluate the security. We didn't think we would be... we panicked a little..." Fowler clams up, seemingly still unable to process the sequence of events that is very unlike how his old zoo heists used to go.

6:50 PM
The enchanted embroidery wiggles extra, as if it's picking up on the Dr.'s emotions. "I'll give that the pandas are still safe." Turning to Eve, he asks, "Who is 'we'?"

Fowler hunches deeply in on himself and seems to shut down somewhat.

"Me, Fowler, and Garrett. I'm sure they won't mind."

Dr. Grythal attempts to make eye contact with each of Fowler and Garrett.

Fowler's mouth is pressed in a tight line, his eyes locked on the floor.
There is the muffled sound of Dollop's "my Fowler is upset" alarm peeping inside of his coat.

"It appears," Dr. Grythal's says in a voice laden with the closest thing to sarcasm you've heard from him, "that Fowler minds."

7:00 PM
"Oh, he'll be fine. I'm sure the Grethens want to talk to the person who saved their pandas in his arms."

"Fowler?"

"They were going to hurt the pandas," Fowler mumbles again, more to his shoes than to Grythal.

"Another topic. How exactly did they get inside the enclosure?"

"They got through the wards." Fowler starts nervously petting Dollop's head with his thumb as he speaks. "Small things could get through. They threw a smoke bomb."

"How did the attackers get in?"

7:04 PM
Fowler mimes swiping a keycard. "They had the key."

"From whom?" His face has shifted to attempting to be kind and encouraging; given the rest of his personality, this ends up awkwardly between stern and supportive

Fowler clams up again, looking nervously at the other two to help him.

"From whom?"

"They were construction workers there, they had access to the compound."

"Construction workers don't typically have keys to the enclosures, unless the construction is inside the enclosure, which this was not."
He sighs. "Do I need to warn the Grethens about any others in their employ?"

7:12 PM
"Fowler, didn't you say the door wasn't properly locked? I don't remember exactly, I was up in a tree at the time."

(back)

Fowler trembles, seemingly unsure what to say. He doesn't want to get the kid in trouble.

[they are being questioned about how the attackers got a key]

Garrett doesn't know anything about that :p
although...

Dr. Grythal returns to glaring, now with a I-have-more-questions-you-won't-like look

7:15 PM
"mkay, I think I've gotten this thing working... again" The tablet's screen is lit up again, showing a few lines of extremely tiny text
"Maybe there's some useful information in the recording?"

"Ah, Garrett. Did your device work as desired?"

"It would certainly seem that it did, yes" Garrett looks very proud of themself
"I have a recording, an image recording, of most of what happened in the enclosure from noon until the end of the mission"

"What happened right after closing time?"
@Ginger roll Lore (possible Invoke from your High Concept)

"Uh, hang on..."

Fowler has gone back to shutting down and lightly rocking back and forth in the chair.

7:18 PM
[oh Fowler's going to get questioned again, just you wait ;)]

+3

... might want a boost, just sayin'

sure

It works, woohoo

woohoo!
Garrett touches some stuff on the screen and flips it around to face the other three
"This is everything that happened from closing time." It looks like the normal readout, but with some additional stuff at the bottom indicating a recording is being played back

7:21 PM
It shows Erok [keeper's son] puttering around quietly to clean up from the day, change out some water, then walk up to the door. He swings it open, nods, and closes it lightly before leaving.
Y'all are lucky he wasn't there while you were putting the thing up so he doesn't know what it can do.

"Good thing he didn't mess with the device, I was a bit worried about that happening. It's not super unobtrusive"

"What's his name?"

"Erik... no, that's not it. Erok?"

"Ewok, something like that."

"It appears he works there?"

7:24 PM
(there's no audio, Garrett forgot to reactivate it after the mission)

Fowler is practically vibrating from the amount of pent-up anxiety contained in his skinny frame.

"Something like that."

"Isn't he related to panda lady? I recall you complaining about her going on about how sweeeet he was"

"Son," Fowler mumbles, reluctantly.

"Keeper's son left the door unlocked. Good job." He shoots an actual smile at Garrett. "I have a new assignment for you. Write up a summary of the benefits of this device, for distribution to possible clients."
"By next week."

7:28 PM
Fowler is silent. In some of his zoo heists in the past, it always rankled him whenever senior management chose to blame low-level employees for mistakes that their choices and architectural decisions allowed to happen.

"Yes sir!" Garrett grins at the compliment

Eve is fiddling with the spike ring.

"Final topic. Fowler. An inventory check revealed that a gift shop near you was missing a copy of some bird book, Four Thousand Facts On Moonpark Birds? Would you happen to know anything about that?"

"No, sir," Fowler mumbles, chagrined.

"I can cover it under general funding, if you admit to it."

7:34 PM
Garrett suppresses a slight smile

Fowler meekly nods.

"Good. Don't do it again."
"Any last debriefings?"

"Is there a budget for a few more of these things?"
She's holding up the finger with the spring-loaded spike ring.

"Ann recently ordered several, as I recall, claiming that there was a bulk-order discount. Get one from her."

Eve doesn't respond and seems to be going slightly red.

7:39 PM
Fowler is so curled up into a tiny ball on the chair at this point that you could probably roll him across the floor like a pinball.

"I believe that is all. Dismissed."

"Good chat, doc."

So, Mith, will Eve be talking to Ann?

Fowler shoots out of the chair at once upon hearing the word "dismissed" as if Grythal had fired a starting gun.

I think Eve will be sneaking into Ann's room

7:41 PM
Where are the rest of you going?

Garrett manages to step on the cable on the way out, yanking it out of the tablet and reverting it to showing indecipherable gibberish

Eve, Ann's room is currently locked.

Fowler heads back to his room with his shoulders hunched, wondering if he'll get off probation on the next one.

+0 to a +3 skill on Burglary to get in

When you get to your room, Fowler, a little scroll has arrived, which states in gold lettering that you're off probation :D
it is accompanied with a NINJA pin and a warning to not put the pin anywhere obvious during a covert job

7:45 PM
Dragging the cable after them, Garrett heads back to their workshop, dreading the accumulated work that they're sure has appeared during their absence

@Mithical you're in. She's not in her room. A desk has cluttered papers and several pictures of her laughing with her arms around various people; several look similar enough to be family, several don't. Ann has a penchant for labels, so there is a convenient WEAPONS sticker on a drawer under her bed.

@bobble Fowler positively lights up, dances and stims enthusiastically and cuddles Dollop for a minute, and then excitedly opens up his very legitimately obtained bird book and sits down to happy-read for a while.

Eve hesitates for a second, and then checks the drawer for any traps, keeping an ear out for anyone approaching.

Notice

+2 to +1 Notice (or a +3 Investigate skill)

7:49 PM
There's some sort of wiretrap which will activate unless you apply pressure to a certain part of the handle upon opening.
No sounds yet

Eve presses down on the handle the way the trap needs and opens the drawer.

@Ginger sure enough, another box of broken comms has arrived, with HIGH PRIORITY written on the side. Approximately 95% of the repairs you get are labeled HIGH PRIORITY.

Garrett props open the door with the box and starts dragging the cable back inside

A box with spots for ten more spikeballs (three have been removed) is nestled among other weapons, including a mace, at least fifteen knives, and what you could swear is a magic sword enchanted to shrink into knife size.
Those things are really expensive and illegal, though, so maybe not.

Eve will swipe five more spike rings (one for every finger except for thumbs and pinkies), then take one of the knives and use it to pin a business card with her contact info right above Ann's bed.

7:54 PM
Another Notice, please

+1 to a +1 skill

You see nothing else, with that roll ;)
@Sciborg whatcha gonna do with the pin?

Eve finishes pinning the card above Ann's pillow and goes to shut the drawer and reset the trap.

Probably sticks it onto the front pocket of his shirt, where Dollop can nibble on it.

Footsteps approaching.

7:56 PM
Shoving some other odds and ends off their workbench onto the floor, Garrett dumps the box of comms onto it with a resigned sigh

Duck into a closet.
Uh-oh... -1 roll to a +4 stealth skill

You tie! She's gonna notice something

Can I invoke Bubbly Assassin and get a bonus? :D

How is being bubbly helping you?
Or is this just the assassin part?

More the assassin part

7:58 PM
'kay, then.

Eve will hide in the closet and try to observe Ann's reaction

Ann walks inside, muttering about "those ungrateful termites in Acquisitions", and rummages around the papers on her desk. Having found what she was looking for, she turns around to leave, sees the card, and stops short to squint.

Eve is waiting with bated breath

Slowly, haltingly, she walks over. Ann grabs the card, smiles, and says aloud, "If you're still here, Eve-ily, I'm going to the range in half an hour."
She spins in a circle again, smirks, and moves to leave the room again.

Eve will wait until she's just outside the door to make herself visible and say "It's a date."

8:04 PM
"Sweet Ur, you'll give me a stroke." Ann blushes. "Well, see you!"
[anything else you want for your respective codas?]

Eve - probably tomato-colored - mumbles something like "see you" in response, and then flees to her own room to get ready.

probably not, it's back to work as usual for Garrett unless you have something else in mind :p

Nothing in particular

the org never sleeps

@Sciborg?

8:06 PM
Didn't have anything else in mind, he's just happy to be off probation.

Garrett does have some plans for the flamethrower though, they don't usually get access to dangerous weapons :b

Congrats! Minicampaign over.

Mith, why is it that I have now twice GM'ed a game where it ended with you arranging a lesbian date?

CONGATION! YOU WON!!

@bobble uuuhhhhhh

@bobble coincidence, clearly

We definitely don't project things we wish would happen more in real life at all :p

because I play unique, individual characters all the time who have nothing in common with each other

Mith making a knife disaster lesbian is completely out of character. Could not have anticipated.
Hopefully last session was not too anticlimatic as an epilogue.

'twas good
