This week we chat with our CEO, Prashanth Chandrasekar, about the milestones our community achieved in 2019 and what we have planned for 2020.

Three months ago, we interviewed Prashanth during his first week on the job. Now, with a full quarter of work under his belt, our new CEO reflects on what we accomplished over the last decade and lays out his vision for where Stack Overflow, as a company and community, will be heading over the next year and beyond.

Paul explains why engineers prefer to give blunt feedback, even in a public setting, and why that approach makes sense for someone working on mission critical software systems. …

As we enter a new decade, there are tremendous forces converging—cloud computing, big data, AI, ML, and an increasingly diverse group of young coders from around the world. Every day, millions of developers visit Stack Overflow to find information they need as they push these exciting new technologies forward. There has been a massive shift since my days as a computer engineering graduate. I was fascinated by the power of languages like Perl, but had only my teachers, classmates, and a few small web forums and mailing lists as a community to support my learning. The numbers below really put into perspective the impact that our community generates and the opportunities that lie ahead: …

hello there. anyone there to quickly help me with a RAM buying decision?
the company that built my PC have helpfully placed the CPU fan in a location where it blocks one of the RAM slots, so I need a third module.

As a Flickr Pro subscriber... this worries me a bit. I don't mind if they hike the cost of the subscription a bit, but something like this is not exactly the best sign.
Effective immediately, the cost of a Flickr Pro subscription is now $59 per year, up from $49. Existing members can extend their subscriptions at the lower rate.
(added two years to mine, so it's now valid until April 24, 2022)
This move was utterly unsurprising, though it did mean a bit of an unplanned purchase.
This does not change any future renewal plans. Barring some unforeseen change, I'll happily let the subscription renew at the new, higher rate 27 months from now.

> Hi bwDraco,

We’re writing to inform you that effective today, the price of Flickr Pro subscriptions has increased to:

- 1 month: $6.99, plus tax
- 3 month: $18.99, plus tax
- 1 year: $59.99, plus tax
- 2 year: $117.99, plus tax

To thank loyal Pro members for your continued support, we are offering all current Pros the opportunity to renew now at last year’s price. [link to renew]
(the previous email was missing the actual pricing information)

I'm not sure it's necessary to share marketing emails here

This is not the complete text of the email, but... yeah, sorry about the bloat. Should I flag for deletion?

Or what you are spending your money on - yet again.

I think a suspension is genuinely warranted at this point...

Can you not take a hint? There have been enough of them ...
You don't need a suspension - you just need to stop doing it!

8:51 PM
It's not a matter of hints. It's a matter of just not being able to check this behavior.

@bwDraco Suspension will not stop your behaviour - only you can do that ...

Or I just need to deprive myself of attention.
Which means logging out.

@bwDraco So log out then.

You know what? The issue is actually tied to my disciplinary history at home. I just can't seem to get over my past of being required to disclose every major transaction to my parents...

Just go and do something else for a bit

8:59 PM
I would feel awfully guilty if I spent a lot of money on something and didn't tell anybody about it.
The need to justify every purchase is where this "every dollar counts" mentality originated.
Because as recently as last year, I get interrogated about my spending whenever I take home something large or expensive...

@bwDraco Yes, you told us that before as well. We know.
@bwDraco Yes, you told us that before as well. We know.
@bwDraco Yes, you told us that before as well. We know.

@DavidPostill Don't repeat yourself, please.

@bwDraco Yes, you told us that before as well. We know.

I know you're frustrated, but I can't do much about this.

@bwDraco Now you know how we feel when you keep repeating yourself.

I know you hate to have to shove the issue in my face, but I'm pretty much powerless to fix it.
There's no need to make me face it. Playing with my emotions won't help and isn't necessary. I can't change it.

@bwDraco No you are not. Just decide to stop doing it.

@DavidPostill This is not my decision.

@bwDraco You can you are just trying hard enough.

No, it is not.
I already have too many things to deal with.

@bwDraco It is your decision to keep posting stuff here when asked not to.

9:04 PM
No, it's not.
You know what? Just suspend me. Because I'm not getting anywhere.

So it's not you posting? Who is it then?
Just log out and take a break please.

I literally cannot control my behavior.

I call bullshit.

Any recall the name of the patch that enables 1909 specific features on 1903? I recall a question about the patch, but I can't find it, and I can't remember the type of patch it was called

I give up.
So... in all honesty, I'm wondering if I should just have my Stack Exchange account deleted because I am no longer able to contribute constructively. It's clear that there is no path forward and I can't fix my behavior.

9:08 PM
Found it (Enablement Package).
Who is saying you can't contribute constructively?

Please see the chat history.

You contribute lots of stuff that is constructive. Talking about your parents controlling your life, for the millionth time isn't one of those times, I admit.
2
So just stop doing that?

It's not that simple.
I just can't change it.
It's beyond my abilities and all previous attempts have failed.
It's not a matter of simply willing it.
The thing is, something may seem simple on the surface but in reality involve far more effort than is immediately apparent.
I can't simply say "fix problem ABC" and immediately deliver a fix.

Come on now....You certainly have the ability to learn that from your past mistakes.
I hate to see that happen due to your inability to not talk about your controlling parents and/or providing chat marketing emails. There are certainly users, who will go unnamed, I wish would follow through on their desire to delete their accounts.

9:25 PM
I'm going to step away from chat for a bit as I try to make sense out of this and find a way forward. I need to move away from this unhealthy fear of keeping quiet about my personal affairs, and I need to reconcile this with my parents.

9:36 PM
Sorry about this earlier rant. I'm going to work something out and build some courage.

awww

9:51 PM
Wow
Viscera Chat Cleanup Detail have been working, I see
