00:00 - 10:0010:00 - 00:00

10:00 AM
but then fail as desks

There's something to be said for oldschool computer desks
you know those beighe ugly things you could clamp a desktop to the side of?
....
they still make em

these aren't deep enough for people to sit on both sides, they don't have cable trays. the central leg prevents cables passing through

@Burgi ew why do they exist

because trendiness trumps function

In the WEST it does
Hah, suckers!
/s

10:07 AM
oh and because they are reclaimed wood the planks are not flat and your mouse gets stuck in the grooves

@Burgi One word: mousepads

they are made of fabric and conform to the terrain

@Burgi Put a book under your mousepad
 ̄_ ̄

dude seriously i haven't sat here for two years without investigating all the options to improve my workspace
i have a cardboard box supporting the mousemat

@Burgi You haven't figured out in two weeks how to use a mouse without the table getting into the way?

10:10 AM
k... i'm going to ignore you for the rest of the day to spare you receiving my wrath

@Burgi sounds like you need a rogue planer

we need actual modular office desks rather than crappy "arty" desks. but yeah a plane would help
maybe an industrial sander

could disguise one as a reclaimed desk...

What @Burgi needs is a plane outta there.

@Burgi is this something your old director thought of?

10:21 AM
@JourneymanGeek got it in one

One good thing about working for the government
the tables are sensible
the chairs..

these desks probably cost 3 times more than a normal desk

10:36 AM
@JourneymanGeek Wait. I thought @ThatBrazilianGuy was the one working for the government

@rahuldottech I work for a company that hires me out to a company that works for the government

@JourneymanGeek Huh. I see.
OK EXPLAIN TO ME. Why would you text me if you're busy and can't hold a decent conversation and are going to go offline before I even have the time to type out my response?

@Burgi It's the government. If it's anything here they have a mandatory public bidding where, for some reason, it ends up costing 30 times more.

@ThatBrazilianGuy i work for a privately held company
they just get suckered into buying shit junk

@Burgi "privately held" ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

10:40 AM
@Burgi Oh you meant "these desks" as where you work, not where @JourneymanGeek works.

yeah

Well here we get crappy stuff for premium rates
Once I took a look of a shipment of new PCs
They looked like your nonhtech neighbor just grabbed random parts and fitted in. The cheapest case, you look at it wrong it bends

hey i have a load of dell optiplexs if your company is buying.... ;)

(∩ ͡⎚ ᴥ ͡⎚ )⊃━☆゚.* D I S C O D O G G Y

The prices were more than what one would pay for two decent PCs
@Burgi Sure, you just need so much red tape you can open a factory

10:43 AM
heh

@ThatBrazilianGuy 1. Buy second-hand from ebay 2. Become govt. supplier 3. PROFIT?

I tried to get them to buy an ACF license. That went .. funny
@rahuldottech 2.5 - hire accountants and law specialists just to deal with the nonsense
But yeah. Pretty much
"We need a signed proposal from them so we can attach to the process"
"The value is too low"

⎕⎕⎕⎕⎕⎕⎕⎕⎕⎕⎕⎕
If you can't see these, it means your device has shitty text rendering ^

I just see squares
Android 6.0.1

@ThatBrazilianGuy ahaha.

10:47 AM
Wait, does emoji rendering depends on OS version? Or what?

Haha. Curiously, this is the only unicode character which you can rely on to be properly displayed on literally every device. Because it's literally a box. If the OS doesn't recognize it, it will still show... wait for it... a box
@ThatBrazilianGuy Yep

@rahuldottech Except it isn't

@ThatBrazilianGuy It mostly is
Except that some text rendering shows instead
In any case. Either or

@rahuldottech These are literally APL FUNCTIONAL SYMBOL QUAD

@ThatBrazilianGuy ahahahaha yes

10:57 AM
I see squares because THEY ARE SQUARES.
Hmpf

@ThatBrazilianGuy gotcha!

Kids these days...

evil laugh
Most kids my age are doing drugs and watching trashy content on instagram and exchanging nudes on snapchat, so...

Look at him he thinks he's evil, isn't it cute?

@ThatBrazilianGuy Hey, I can do evil stuff
Don't challenge me

10:59 AM
I'm totally not
Wait wait
I AM
I'm challenging you to sleep early

OH DAMNNN SON YOU GON GET SCREWED

Focus on your studies

oh. that.

Take care of your sister
And life a happy life

Yeah, ok, challenge accepted.

11:00 AM
WHATCHA GONNA DO NOW HUH KID

Hii

@Ac3_DeXt3R 'sup?

@Ac3_DeXt3R Hi! Happy Easter!

I need help

@Ac3_DeXt3R who doesn't?

Q: Build procedure for grubnetx64.efi

Ac3_DeXt3RWhat is the build procedure for grubnetx64.efi file present here: Ubuntu Archive? What parameters have been used and what config file(if any) has embed into it?

@Ac3_DeXt3R As a general rule of thumb, if the question is on AskUbuntu, you should go ask in their chat room first
Which reminds me... Haven't seen @jokerdino around in a while

yeah, went there but no one is available! hopeing any enthusast here..

@Ac3_DeXt3R Also, since we're not linux developers, how could we possibly know the build procedure for that file?
Why are you trying to compile it yourself anyway?

I posted the same question in stackoverflow, but the moderators blocked as its not related to programming!
because I need to setup a pxe server.

@Ac3_DeXt3R Very correctly so. It is not.
@Ac3_DeXt3R Take a look at stackoverflow.com/questions/31514866/…

11:05 AM
yes

@Ac3_DeXt3R Still doesn't answer why you need to compile it yourself

Hmm, I need to know the parameters being passed to build the official grubnetx64.efi
So that I can csutomise for our own needs.
customize*

@Ac3_DeXt3R 1. How would we know? 2. Look at the code, make educated guesses.
This is not a programming site.

hmm...
yeah, as I hoped any enthisiast here...anyway u shared a link, thats helpful.
thanks

@JourneymanGeek What do you know about Kailh Blue Switches?

11:21 AM
Not much I'm afraid

@JourneymanGeek As someone who doesn't do gaming and just types a lot, which do you recommend? amazon.in/Logitech-K840-Mechanical-Corded-Keyboard/dp/… or amazon.in/Redgear-MK881-Professional-Mechanical-Lightning/dp/… ?

11:32 AM
@rahuldottech sadly I've only used the classic cherry blues
You want clicky or silent?

@JourneymanGeek silent is slightly preferable. Nothing too loud.

The Romero gs are apparently quieter
Reviews seem bad tho

@JourneymanGeek This one's great: tomshardware.com/news/…

11:59 AM
hey
anyone of you is familiar with Jira?

yeah
its a nightmare to set up
but it works amazingly
especially if you integrate it with bitbucket

@AndyK ugh

its a full time job just maintaining it

1 hour later…
1:35 PM
wtf?
i want to be clear, hence the "up" qualifier
exactly clippy

'lo, @avazula

2:22 PM
And your favorite coffee brand is...?

2:40 PM
Vayanadan Coffee ;p
Or Narasu's...
the latter is slightly RA famous for how terrible their website is

@JourneymanGeek Hm? It's a bit dated, but nothing terribly outrageous.

@ThatBrazilianGuy other than all the stock photos of white people

@ThatBrazilianGuy the page is so terrible its not loading
.... it loaded
Ok, that's actually the website equivilent of an indian lorry

@JourneymanGeek There's worse
^--- this is like Geocities and MySpace had a kid and this kid followed @Dog's drug advice
2

2:49 PM
@JourneymanGeek This must be a rare coffee that you found on your journey?

Naw
stuff we pick up at the grocery

@ThatBrazilianGuy I am usually leery of such website names and think twice before I click.
@JourneymanGeek Must be non-international brand then.

#thatsthejoke

@ThatBrazilianGuy that is deliberate

1 hour later…
4:15 PM
@rahuldottech hey there
Sorry I'm slow to respond, 'still on vacation
How are you guys doing?

4:42 PM
@avazula terribly. Exams.

@rahuldottech Why are they shouting in that page? Do they think we are all deaf or something?

@DavidPostill I mean... everything (sensible) falls on deaf ears in the US :P

2 hours later…
9:00 PM
@DavidPostill If you aren't shouting are you really being heard?

9:21 PM
@rahuldottech ugh. I'm finally done with studies. Wish you best of luck :)
@djsmiley2k enjoy haha

Dog
9:44 PM
!!tell 46888100 trout

@ThatBrazilianGuy slaps0 around a bit with a large trout!

That's not right...

10:41 PM
I have a samba drive that changes ip addresses
is there a way to assign a name to the changing ip address so that my windows don't to be closed and reopened?

11:01 PM
check your DHCP server, you can usually statically assign IPs in the configuration there
nn

no the dhcp server is changing
both computers are roaming
kinda weird situation
basically think of it as 2 laptops
changing wifi network

Even if the name is the same, if the underlying address changes Windows is probably not going to be able to reconnect gracefully in that situation.

:(
I end up having to reset the ssh sessions
by rerunning the command based off a global variable
that contains the ip address
it works but it is annoying
I haven't set up the entire enviroment but I am going to use screen to hopefully get sessions to not dissconnect entirely.

11:43 PM
@William hmm. Also take a look at mosh.

yeah mosh is what I am trying to learnish righ now

And Ubuntu has a nice wrapper called byubu

byobu maybe

Ya
Ugh. I just realized the plastic shell on one off my dp cables fell off 0o
