@MichaelFrank @bertieb ehh.... that's not that nice :(

If you think so, nuke mine
I didn't mean any offence
Took it more as a reference to a recent discussion

Well, if we're making fun of specific people for things, and we're not that person...

(I can't self-delete)

Hmm, I also say 2.1-like typing detected for smiley
It's not so much making fun

12:26 AM
oh, I go catlike typing

Just... referring to something that's associated with them?
Not so much making fun

but we're less likely to hurt smiley by saying that he types like his kid

Wait, really? :P
I get what you're getting at anyway
I'm happy to err on the side of caution regardless

ah, which is really my intent here

(I'll grumble the next time someone takes Scotland in vain, just to keep things fair :P)

12:29 AM
eh, I love scotland
Birmingham is my go to place to mock

I'm saying nothing about B'ham, lest I get waylaid next time I pass through on the way south :P

1:10 AM

That battery is bloated/

Found in a non-working Android tablet.

Just earlier, I had to handle a similarly expanded battery in a Nokia feature phone (something like a 3310, not sure). That battery was ten years old.
And one other is working but slightly expanded.
That's no fewer than three expanded Li-ion batteries in this apartment.

.... 3310s are more than a decade old ;p

1:15 AM
And the Nokia BL-5C battery isn't even a Li-poly battery. It's a prismatic Li-ion battery.
Which explains why batteries of the sort used in compact cameras (like the EN-EL12 used in my Nikon Coolpix S9900) have enclosures that are slightly larger than the actual cell. The edges of the battery are slightly thicker than the cell in the center.

you can still get BL-5Cs I think ;p

It's to account for possible expansion over time.

hah lol
unicell has em listed
and holy cow that supports a lot of phones

I had a Logitech keyboard that I'm pretty sure used a BL-5C

heh, apparently someone set up a google custom search for open directories on the internet
(and totally posted it here so I can find it later)

1:20 AM
I think I talked about non-poly (prismatic, though not cylindrical) Li-ion batteries expanding before...

Someone in the office had to get the battery in their work iPhone replaced over the weekend. Apparently it was literally flat... like empty. They're gonna bring it on Wednesday, I'll take pictures.

Start here:
Jul 18 '16 at 15:05, by bwDraco
Looked back at the transcript and noticed the talk about swollen batteries.
(and yes, the EN-EL12 is a prismatic battery, not a LiPo)

The battery out of my Razer Mamba after a couple of years of use...

Wat.

1:34 AM
Yea lol
I felt it start to catch on my mouse mat one day and thought the battery cover was warped...
Turns out the battery was bloating and forcing the cover out.
Razer didn't seem to care about it when I contacted support, they just suggested that I buy a new one from them.

1:50 AM
rofl
Was the mouse still under warranty?

Nah, it was well outside the warranty at that point.
I still use the mouse, sans battery of course.

Yeah. I'm not exactly surprised if it's out of warranty, but I would at least have expected a voucher for something like "$10 off a replacement battery".

Bob
@MichaelFrank someone let the magic smoke out!

@Bob Yea, I'm genuinely interested in seeing it. I've never heard of a battery being physically flat before.

hm.
I've noticed a lot of comments berating people about their ... lack of english proficiency over the last few days.
This does not make me a happy camper ._.

2:32 AM
On closer examination... the Lamy design is pure genius.
First, the ink bottle is narrower towards the bottom so you can efficiently use all the ink, and has an integrated spool of paper for cleaning the pen after filling.
Second, the proprietary converter has pins on the side which mate to slots in the nib/section assembly to prevent the converter from rotating while filling the pen.

2:59 AM
It's also hard to believe that the AL-star is constructed of aluminum. The pen is so lightweight that it feels like plastic.
Quite the design marvel.
If you're wondering... it was HK$400 with free engraving. Converter and ink were extra.

12:38 PM
Hi

12:49 PM
lol
@allquixotic I probably should drop you a little more context on that meta question ;p
So context meta.stackexchange.com/questions/304607/… and someone on twitter whose post I keep losing seem to feel SO's too toxic
While I disagree with the broad point they're trying to make, there's really stuff I used to do pre-mod that I don't do any more. I don't do the same sort of long (or even short) helpful comments, my edits seem to have tapered off...
So I figure I'm going to try to fix at least one post a day. And I see a post and I go... "dude, that's too harsh"
and I'm like "WHAT ARE WE DOING!"
and lol
What's that I like to say? I prefer sheep dogs to sanctuary.

Bob
o.O

@Bob meta post for context

@JourneymanGeek you see a post you made and it's too harsh? or?

naw, someone elses
dude was getting ripped into cause his english was bad
and one of our more grumpy users was being a gem and going "you could just fix that"
and did!

1:04 PM
ok wtf, video won't play in FF all of the sudden
Riiiight.... (my BT driver appears to have bugchecked)

Have you tried...

@JourneymanGeek lol
'one of our grumpy users'
lol a few spring to mind

Bob
@allquixotic lol. brand? :P

@djsmiley2k I quite literally don't want to name and shame anyone ;p
Even the ones who did good!

hehe

1:13 PM
And I am literally teed off at some of these folks, so clearly the correct way to deal with it is to camp on the moral high ground.

amen! :D

> That's actually one of my biggest complaints too. They can't decide which fucking schema to use. Underscores like in display_errors()? Or camelCase as in resetServerList()? Or nothing at all like setoverprintmode()? Sometimes they use a "2" as replacement for "to" (hex2bin()), sometimes they don't (strtotime()). There are so many oddities with PHP when it comes to naming conventions.

But that's all old stuff. If you check newer functions, methods and classes, they all use camelCase. So they did get their shit together and it's gotten a lot better now.

@Bob USB\VID_8087&PID_0A2B\5&2A62B456&0&7
it's my Intel - I've never had issues with it before :/
oh snap, just updated the driver from 12/5/17 to 1/4/18 in Device Manager with a "search for online updates"

odd that those updates don't come in through Windows Update
now I want to go to every device in device manager and try that

1:22 PM
lol

Bob
@allquixotic that's new :P
@rahuldottech erm. protip: don't download whichever random driver happens to match your PID

hah lol
cough

Bob
If it's an Intel card your best bet is to download the drivers from ... Intel. Or Microsoft, if you'd rather use Windows Update.

yup
or your specific OEM

Bob
If you must have a laptop-specific driver, you look up your specific laptop model.
Not even some other model from the same manufacturer.

1:26 PM
yeah, not touching an HP driver with a 10-foot pole
not until they stop using links like h30434.www3.hp.com
like, seriously, who exposes their servers' internals to the public URL anymore?

@allquixotic That page has a link to the Intel driver download page

boring.
News just in, bad passwords are bad

Bob

This is why you go to the correct site and enter all details necessary.
Random links will take you to random places.

> Since I ripped the prongs off while opening the adapter, I needed an alternate method to for powering it up. While I would not recommend having a mains-to-alligator-clips cable in a typical toolbox, this is one case where two wrongs can be used to make something right.
something makes me giggle (a lot) about the idea of a mains to alligator clips adapter

If my country ever picks a new national flag, this is on my shortlist for designs to argue for, but I think in the end I'll go with the green puzzle piece or broken image thumbnail.

Q: I dreamed you did so and so. Why did you do that? - How to react?

EdgarI had the following situation a couple of times: I sleep together with my (long time) girlfriend and she wakes up after a bad dream. In her dream I did something bad, like having sex with another woman. She is angry at "me" about what "I" did. But I didn't do it. It happened only in her dream. ...

my PXC 550s do a really weird thing when you're on a phone call
they actively record audio coming out of your environment and replay it inside your headphones
it sounds like I'm not wearing any headphones @_@
the mics are really good at picking up stuff from the environment - I guess it's so you can do a teleconference while talking to someone
