lol the more i do in this job
the more they are like 'yeahajust do whatever you want'
i'm like 'that annoying thing, can I fix it?'
;D
@allquixotic OH NOES. NOW GOOGLE HAS TOLD RECRUITERS YOU KNOW RUST AND STUFF :O NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
/me goes back to his batch script
I can't tell if they think this batch script they created is good or not
or just something that somoene threw together in 5 seconds (which it looks like)
Mine come with proper logging and such

Batch becomes a horrible mess really fast when you need to do anything complicated
Not sure if it's possible to avoid that

@BenN Oh I don't do complicated things in it
I simply run a sequence of commands, we'd otherwise be running manually
and I log what it does.
sometimes I even react to error codes!

Nice

:D
I've litterally saved the night shift hours. per night.
heh
the batch script I was handed uses wget for windows :O

6:23 PM
Hey, I can think of a command-line solution that doesn't need third-party tools
Or you can use the bitsadmin utility to download files, which is also an EXE program, but it comes with Windows
It's deprecated, but is still present on the newest Windows 10

Anyone here familar with db2cmd ?
@BenN I didn't write this one :D
basically for some reason (I don't know db2 at all)
we run db2cmd followed by cd /some/dir then this batch file.bat. The last two commands are ran within the db2cmd window.

Is db2cmd still running, or did it just change the console's settings?
Some programs (including wmic) change the furniture in the house even when they're just a guest

psexec.exe -u YYY\XXX -p ZZZ \\YYY cmd.exe /c "cd c:\beanstore\pos\sql\ && db2cmd -c -w -i cacheGen.bat"
I think this might work? :D
@BenN Ooo maybe it does
wait no, you actually exit it, once you're done

Exiting wmic leaves the console's dimensions changed too
@djsmiley2k If those credentials are privileged, you need to secure the batch file

@BenN lololol security what's tht XD

6:39 PM
O_o

woah
Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) has commited sucide :/

6:52 PM
This, is cool

1 hour later…
7:58 PM
@BenN Hmm. Doesn't do that here. It does fiddle with the console window scrollbar thumb position inside wmic and restores it on exit.

Ah, looks like it changed in Windows 10 with the fancy new console stretchability

@BenN Stretchy consoles? What's that?

You didn't used to be able to horizontally resize a command prompt
Historically, if you wanted to make it wider, you had to run wmic and then exit it, leaving your console super wide

or change the properties...

Huh, I must have missed that option on the Layout tab - is that new?
It's entirely possible that I didn't see it before, though

8:03 PM
@BenN Oh. That's strange. On Win 7 I can drag resize my console up to the max size set in properties.

Weird, I was never able to horizontally resize consoles beyond the default width
But I didn't know about those properties

I can't drag it wider than 200 (but I don't want to). It look like you can't make it wider than will fit on a single screen (I guess the max number of characters depends on the font setting)

8:51 PM
@DavidPostill I can drag up and down, but not left/right
Once I've made the console larger than the default 80x36? then I can resize it horizonstally, but only as small as 80
or around 80...

@djsmiley2k Hmm. You broke it :)

9:24 PM
weird.

@Burgi Thanks but outside of what I'm qualified for

9:39 PM
:)
omg... girlfriends... wtf?
apparently my GFs house has no internet (its broken somewhere)
so i told her to use her phone but she started getting really angry and shouting at me say "do you not think i've tried that already?"

its taken me a couple of hours (mainly because i've had a nap) but i realised that she probably hadn't turned off the wifi on her phone
just text her mentioning the wifi and got a message on whatsapp saying "really sorry for shouting at you, hadn't turned off the wifi"

9:59 PM
@Bob ...and the ASUS ROG Crosshair VI Extreme product page is now up: asus.com/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/ROG-CROSSHAIR-VI-EXTREME

women be cray

10:51 PM
@bwDraco no thunderbolt. hmm.
though it's also rare on Intel boards and it's more an Intel thing in the first place :/

@Bob This would require an Alpine Ridge controller and four lanes of PCIe.
Ryzen is already kinda short on PCIe lanes.
(Threadripper, on the other hand, has more than enough PCIe lanes for this.)
It's entirely technically possible, but the need for Thunderbolt is less acute on desktop platforms where you have access to the internal PCIe expansion bus.
There's 16 lanes available for the graphics card on AMD X370, with bifurcation to 8+8 for SLI/CrossFire. Four more lanes are used for the chipset, and the remaining 4 are dedicated to NVMe.
The motherboard manufacturer would probably need to add a PLX switch to expand the PCIe functionality, which is expensive.

@Bob yup
ehh anyway, I know what my client needs
shrug
I'll throw ttrss together and if that fails too, we'll relook things

@JourneymanGeek Black Dragon - Luca Turilli 🎶

@Bob What's this about? I'm seeing several references to music.
(currently listening to Jake Kaufman's excellent Shovel Knight OST)

I suspect it's a chatbot that announces what song started playing in some app

@Burgi I see your "UK politicians call Jane Austen a living author" and raise a "Brazilian Police calls Mikhail Bakunin living suspect":
> Mikhail Bakunin, an anarchist born in Russia 200 years ago, is being investigated by the Rio de Janeiro police under the suspicion that he is participating in protests against the World Cup and social injustice

wow
he is a trouble-maker after a few tropical cocktails with umbrellas in them though to be fair to them

@Burgi To be fair, I heard he's such a riot!

11:53 PM
the russian football fans were training by the FSB during the last Euro championship
