ah it's just generic Kingston ram
Bob
Bob
The blue thing?
yeah
Bob
Bob
That's.. generic? o.o
Well, they were really cheap
HyperX modules (1600mhz Profile 1)
Bob
Bob
is the blue thing part of the RAM?
11:01
uuuhm okay, which blue you mean?
Bob
Bob

user image
yeah 6 RAM modules
3 HyperX and 3 other HyperX from a different series
you can see that three of them got those metal clamps on them
but yeah they fit the Gigabyte blue color perfectly
Bob
Bob
yea, well, it has a cover
@Shiki: o0
I haven't seen one of those in a LONG time
does that cable split off or something?
Bob
Bob
THIS is generic RAM:

Thats a azalia connector meant for systems without a standardised front panel output
yeah I had trouble with the GEIL / Kingmax modules I bought first (BSOD), so I just went for XMP modules. And these work like a charm ever since.

@JourneymanGeek Yeah it's an ooooooooooooold Foxconn case. (It's a BEAST. Like 15kg heavy beast.)
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek Sure about that?
> Intel High Definition Audio (also called HD Audio or Azalia) refers to the specification released by Intel in 2004 for delivering high-definition audio that is capable of playing back more channels at higher quality than previous integrated audio codecs like AC'97. During development it had the codename "Azalia".
@Bob: remember the time I asked about HDA va AC97?
Bob
Bob
11:04
@JourneymanGeek Yes; I linked to your comment above :P
there is a floppy in there to right?
Bob
Bob
waiiit...
@Shiki ...disregard me mentioning hd audio above
so how old could it be :-)
Yepp, it was installed when I bought the case :D
11:05
well, when I opened up my other case to check, it split into three bundles, the third was loose
Bob
Bob
the Intel spec sheet was apparently for AC97
..
No it's not THAT old
Bob
Bob
the original spec sheet I used is on a site that's currently down
@Shiki: about 07ish?
I don't know why did the guy even put one into it when I bought it
Bob
Bob
11:05
so I searched for another
yeah like that @JourneymanGeek
Bob
Bob
which is apparently too old
I can take a pic of the case if you want
but it's not informative
A generic black metal Foxconn case without any extra stuff (no side fan, etc)
Bob
Bob
wait.
let me check if I can find the model for you
Bob
Bob
11:06
wait a sec.

During development it had the codename "Azalia". Hardware based on Intel HD Audio specifications is capable of delivering 192-kHz 32-bit quality for two channels, and 96-kHz 32-bit for up to eight channels. However, , most audio hardware manufacturers do not implement the full high-end specification, especially 32-bit sampling...
Ok.
ya, this obviously dosen't have the full set
Bob
Bob
@Shiki No idea what your MB means by NC, but the pinout I mentioned is almost definitely AC97
Alright so basically even if I manage to put it together somehow, the sound quality will suffer
oh, it will suck, horribly
I'll just use the rear jack then.. I fixed the USB output already
(sound quality is a must :P)
Bob
Bob
11:08
@Shiki not really
as I said I never bothered with the front connectors ...all dem cables man
Bob
Bob
AC97 isn't that bad
holy hell.. all the Foxconn cases are made from cheap plastic nowadays (according to the site)
I can't even find anything similar
Bob
Bob
> AC'97 defines a high-quality, 16- or 20-bit audio architecture with surround sound support for the PC. AC'97 supports a 96 kHz sampling rate at 20-bit stereo resolution and a 48 kHz sampling rate at 20-bit stereo resolution for multichannel recording and playback. AC97 defines a maximum of 6 channels of analog audio output.
@Bob: I was thinking the analogue side
Bob
Bob
11:09
@JourneymanGeek Hm?
@Bob NC=No Connection. some of the web suggests doing crasy stuff with it, but of the MB manuel or (better) the PDF manuel for the MB (off the site after correction) says it is NC it probably is
@Bob: you have a loose bunch of cables, with no real idea where they go, made by a OEM
;p
Bob
Bob
@Psycogeek Yea, the problem is, the specs for that type of connection pretty much require those pins to be connected.
I assumed no connection, but I don't see how that would even work
shit, I am SURE I have seen that kind of connector before
PIV?
Bob
Bob
heh
my old cases are too old to have an audio connector :P
11:11
&*blinks*
wait
I bought the case with a Core2Quad inside
if that helps
why are there + and - for headphones?
headphones are 3 wires
(but the case could be old anyway)
not at Foxconn m8
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek cause AC'97 specs
Bob
Bob
11:12
You have L and R with individual returns
I might have a pure AC97 case here
Bob
Bob
though it's NC on this MB, which is... weird.
one of the old perx knuckleshredders
Alright alright, I'll just leave it as it is (I'll just buy a longer audio cable and that's it)
sorry dude ;p
11:14
ah I can leave with it... these connectors have been tucked away since I got the case
If I run across anything that could help (or open up one of my old cases) I'll let you know
Bob
Bob
@Shiki I'm reasonably sure I got the pins right above, if you want to give that a shot :P
quality shouldn't be THAT bad
what do you guys think about the warning ? that it could damage something?
Bob
Bob
that's known as CYA
Cover your ass (CYA) or cover your own ass (CYOA) describes professional and organizational practices that serve to protect oneself from legal and administrative penalties, criticism, or other punitive measures. Common practices * Banking - compliance officers who may know that certain financial transactions are dubious, i.e., that money laundering and terrorist financing will inevitably occur regardless of the amount of regulatory structures put in place, but who comply with all the regulatory requirements, and thus absolve themselves from future liability. * Journalists - The term's use ...
yup
oh hell, let me take a look at the knuckleshredder
Bob
Bob
11:16
knuckleshredder?
Alright. So unless I go full-retard with the cable plugging, it should stay intact
@Psycogeek I think you're going to far.
old case ;p
Bob
Bob
@Shiki well, the risk is shorting something
but if the MB pinout isn't completely wrong..
@Psycogeek Thumbs up for website. I knew it before but was nice remainder.
Bob
Bob
11:17
well, worst case it won't work cause there's a NC where a RET should be
@Shiki what is the motherboard?
X58A-UD3R
Bob
Bob
(assuming your follow the pins I listed above)
if you go plug into other random pins.. no clue.
eh, no love there
standard AC 97 connector
Bob
Bob
O.O
my case has the header cables hot glued to connectors on a PCB
11:18
@Bob I will only try the one listed... reboot is no fun (I just hate to sit in silence without music, that's the reason I spend time with this)

btw thanks for all the help/suggestions
thats normal
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek they're not fully plugged in
they're hot glued partially out... :S
Bob
Bob
(and the SATA one isn't even glued properly - it's fallen out)
@Shiki it is the usual realtek audio
Bob
Bob
11:19
the USB one looks dodgiest. might explain why I was having trouble with USB power.
@Shiki ah. I abandoned front panel connections a while ago
my case sticks out enough that my either my knees die or the connector is bent
@Shiki If you want to really screw things up plug a USB into a FIREWIRE :-) one is supposed to be powered, one certannly not. And they often have a very similar connection points.
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek it's rather amusing, actually.
the glue on the SATA one
there's a big glob of glue on top of the male connector
okay guys brb. have to dust out the computer. (it's choking in this 40C temperature)
Bob
Bob
...the female connector is open on top
@Bob Does it look like an inside of a PSU?
Bob
Bob
11:21
so, whoever glued it, glued it to.. nothing?
@Shiki huh?
AMD: add more cores
manufacturer: add more glue
well, the yellow stuff inside the PSU
Bob
Bob
@Shiki Oh yea.
Everything can be solved with more cores! Except single-threaded programs. Which makes up the vast majority of programs.
all the Chieftec PSUs I used had yellow foam/glue all over (let me refrain from using any examples what it looked like). Now I used Google Image Search to find some images of it, but all the pictures show clean PSUs. wtf
ah yes, this is it:
http://www.xbitlabs.com/images/coolers/chieftec-psu-roundup/p5s.jpg
brb, dusting out the PC. (Linux would fry the Nvidia card anyway that I installed for now)
brb
@Shiki the glue goes on the coils so they do not vibrate. it is a rather rude method. But it can work, to quiet the buzzing sounds.
Bob
Bob
@Shiki I took a photo of that stuff on my PSU a while ago
11:29
@ThatBrazilianGuy Hohoho!
The online manuel for that board was only a quick install guide, it doesnt even have the connector in it .
Bob
Bob
Incidentally, @JourneymanGeek was right. It did last over a year.
it occationally also acts as a way to insulate live heatsinks from the case
Bob
Bob
Jun 20 '12 at 12:32, by Bob
@HaydnWVN Except there's a very large air gap between that and any other object :P
Wow. We really do just recycle conversations in this room.
@Bob as long as everyone agrees :-)
11:40
lol
@Bob I agree, with that configurations it would be "same" for HD as AC, and no pins would be on power or problem areas. (yes it did take me that long, i got the rev2 manuel up, and it is 100% same as his picture).
@Bob: I used to run 20 dollar PSUs, lasted about 3-5 years ;p
12:00
Alright, back. Fixed the situation: Rotated the case so the back is now close enough for my headphone.
lol
@Shiki: on a longer term, get a headphone extention cord?
they're only a few dollars
What reputation do I need to have to be allowed to post questions and chat in any of those 105 StackExchange websites?
3000?
300?
@Bob After scanned ""I know that the resolution is not too fine, but the numbers are clearly readable."" no they are not, 3 pixels for a number isnt doing it. Dont be counterfeiting money with that res :-)
I mean.... achieving reputation of 300 or 3000 here in SuperUser...
Becasue I would need like 2000 years to gain reputation of 2000 at all those 105 websites individually
12:09
@Bob That guy has made hisself perpetually nuts , over an interpolation of data, does he stop and think ? Raw Scan, into the photo program, do your own sharpening and stuff, watching the fine detail (if it is so bloody important), and then print the mess.
as long as you have the rep on one site, you can chat for any site.
OK, how about asking questions?
...
tried reading through the help pages? ;p
Like now I can't ask questions on ServerFalut....
@JourneymanGeek Yeah of course. I had one, just my mom started using the other PC that been lying around for months, and now I have no cord. ;_;
12:10
Oh thats different
Since they say I need rep of 20 over there
you got suspended.
or the rules there are different
then, go get 20 rep ;p
That's what I am saying
It will take me 2000 years to pass all the requirements at each and every of those 105 websites
So, I thought that when I achieve some magical rep in here - SuperUser.. let's say 3000.... I will gain the freedom to do virtually anything in any of 105 websites
;-)
And will be able to sleep without nightmares eventually
;o)
12:15
@EinsteinsGrandson How would that work? I might be able to answer a question here, but i could not even ask a good one at 105 sites. I would have to be faking it.
What do you mean @Psycogeek?
@EinsteinsGrandson I mean everyone has a more favorite and to thier skill and liking site. Jack of all trades is master of none. (geez it always helps to add in english slang when your already not understood)
What if there is a SuperHero, Jack of all traders, Master of all who doesn't need to sleep and is learning new things 24 hours a day...
I'm just asking how it works...
If it's possible
@EinsteinsGrandson As you learn, rep should start flowing in like a tidal wave.
I don't care about the reasons
12:21
@EinsteinsGrandson No, your a Newbie on each site , with a bit of rep tossed in for having skill on one. But even with the 100rep points, the people in the know will still see a new person.
Or each and every of those 105 websites is an universe of itself and even when I have a rep of 9999999999999 on SuperUser, it doesn't change the fact that I need to fulfill the requirements of ServerFault as anybody else to be allowed to ask questions over there?
You could always go to sites where each of the sub-locations are not as restrictive, and disconnected, and they still hand out "rep" thingies to people who assist others.
@EinsteinsGrandson They throw you a bone 100rep. If you were a super user expert, how would that make you a Stack Exchange Programmer? or a Server Fault Webmasters?
You're not a Networking Master or Programming Guru.... but you achieved the fucking rep of 9999999999999..... so there should be some reward for that!
Then, when I reach rep 20,000 on SuperUser.... I have no motivation to get more points , do I?
@EinsteinsGrandson Even if you get frequent flyer miles that you can use on another airline, you still stand in line with everyone else :-)
Anything above 20,000 is useless
12:27
If you buy a "superPass" for a transit system (bus train), you ride the same ride as everyone else?
So how about that bone of 100 they throw me?
I get +100 points in each and every of 105 websites when I achieve rep 300 at any of those 105 websites?
@EinsteinsGrandson If you have 2000 or 3000? i forget on one site, then sign on to another, you get free rep for exisiting.
@EinsteinsGrandson WHY? what did you need this stuff for? Cant trade it for bitcoin :-) They dont make you the king of anything, you just end up with more work to do?
I just don't have 2000 years to fulfill all the requirements of each and every of 105 websites, so that I could freely chat and post questions on any of those 105 webistes
@EinsteinsGrandson But there are 1 million web sites. And about 10,000 forums, and about 2500 that will do rep. So 105? you have barely begun?
For some reason, I need to ask questions at any of 105 websites at any random moment...
I am naive and believe this is the only good forum of all the other forums in the world
12:34
@EinsteinsGrandson You do not need rep to do that?
I do
Or I don't need the rep. for what?
Fuck, I could have just ask that on Meta....
Would save tones of time
and get the answer
Even though they would crucify me over there like last time
;o)
@EinsteinsGrandson at SU at least, any anonymous user can ask a question. If they ask it well, it will get a good answer (assuming anyone has a good answer).
Yes, but that's just SU
other 104 websites have different rules....more restrictive
@EinsteinsGrandson Ohh, well then the thing to do is get in there and fix em, get 100rep and start being part of the community , and explain that they will never get out of area 51 if they want to be assholes
Shite
So what is the answer?
12:40
@EinsteinsGrandson It is on the web? all the answers are on the web.
Here's how it works:Anybody can ask a question
Anybody can answer
Which of these does not say that? stackexchange.com/sites#
I am so angry I will beat everybody I meet on the streets today
I need to go now
@EinsteinsGrandson Well dont leave mad, just leave :-)
I have not been so mad in like 6 months!
12:45
@EinsteinsGrandson then write up a really nasty diatribe , and get banned. then you will not have to worry about it.
i am leaving
will be back with my question in 5 hours
What reputation do I need to have on SuperUser to be allowed to post questions and chat in any of those 105 StackExchange websites?
@EinsteinsGrandson That sounds like a good duplicate question for the meta :-)
11
A: It’s annoying and hypocritical that reputation is split between StackExchange sites.

KronoSJust because you may be a programming genius doesn't ALWAYS make you a Super User, Gaming, Cooking or any of the other Stack Exchange sites expert. In order to have the privileges that you have on Stack Overflow you have to earn them here, just as any other user would have to on any SE site. If...

A search reveals that you would not be the first person , or the 3rd or the 5th, to have believed that the system should work different.
If I think about it, i do not know if i would want to be Upstaged by Martha stewart, after she left Cooking , to come here and edit computer questions.
13:02
wot
13:28
tf2 <3
@Gowtham Ohhh am I in New York :-)
@Psycogeek ??
@Gowtham The jersey accent insults.
@Psycogeek Ah, don't know about americano accents ;p
13:42
hmm my college uses an interesting login method which I have never seen before, I have a generated uname/password and I have to login via (another computer I think because in the log in to place in xp I give the name of my lab instaed of this computer)
And a local user is created during first login ...
And apparently I can log in to any computer on the campus using the same uname/password
Internet seems to be filtered via cyberoam.com
DNS requests go through tho ;p
hi
@Gowtham welcome to Active Directory
@somequixotic Time to look it up \o/
Was waiting for the name ;p
Also it looks like some external provider has set up the network because my teachers have no idea how it works ;p
Also can Active Directory entries be synced across servers ?
57
Q: What is Active Directory and how does it work?

MDMarra This is a Canonical Question about Active Directory. What is Active Directory? What does it do and how does it work? I find myself explaining some of what I assume is common knowledge about it almost daily. This question will, hopefully, serve as a canonical question and answer for most b...

okaythen ...
Time to download Windows Server 2003 :P :P ;p
13:57
@Gowtham no such product
there's Windows Server 2008 (based on Vista), 2008 R2 (based on Win7), and 2012 (based on Win8)
and Windows Server 2003, based on XP 64-bit
Yes that's the version used in my lab ;p
you aren't going to be able to join a windows server to the active directory and obtain any kind of control over it
you can try, but you'll just be denied, and probably get in a lot of trouble while doing it
Oh no, I am going to install it to my computer and figure out how it works ;p
@somequixotic I know the common Administrator password ;p
okay. messing around with IT infrastructure software is a good use of time, but attempting to compromise or exploit other peoples' production networks is very, very bad
@somequixotic I am not trying to exploit it @_@
14:01
@EinsteinsGrandson: I have over 50K rep here. On SF, while I'm tolerated, I'm obviously not as skilled as the regulars. I have no chance in hell on ask different.
;p
I for one, wouldn't trust myself with super awesome powers anywhere I didn't earn it ;)
I am trying to figure out how it works :P :P
14:31
Wow this is really disturbing. I just discovered that no mater which videos you click on at youTube, If you continue to pick from the list of similars on the right, the list will eventually have only cat/kitten videos in it. I am calling the phenomena The 6 degrees of seperation from cat videos.
2
... holy crap
@Psycogeek Cute cats anomaly black hole phenomena. Because one you are in, you can't get out from cute cat world.

I punched a guy off a bridge in sleeping dogs. I went down to find his body surrounded by people, including a paramedic saying the guy was dead.
14:39
@JourneymanGeek What reality construct were you in when did that? Sparring program?
@Boris_yo: read the statement again ;p
You MUST GO DEEPER
and actually see I was talking about sleeping dogs ;p

I think that part helps him understand that it's a video game
@JourneymanGeek Hmmm redpill? I drank one yesterday.
14:40
Its like someone took one of those hong kong action movies and turned it into a game.
@Boris_yo \o
Saw few gameplay videos from SD by Sathya. Looks really good.
@Boris_yo then mabey you need a redBull this morning
Oh I didn't know of this video game. Paramedic must have good AI to diagnose within a game...
@Boris_yo not really
actor.state = State.DEAD;
14:42
@Gowtham Not sure I understand your emoticon... It's this all seeing eye?
if(actor.class == Class.PARAMEDIC && target.state == State.DEAD)
actor.yelp(Constants.HES_DEAD_JIM);
@somequixotic I guess yelp does not have anything to do with yelp.com
@somequixotic: lol
@Bibhas: it is
and the environments are brilliant
@JourneymanGeek I think he took participation in game development.
(you don't get ambulances when you JUST beat people to a pulp)
14:46
@JourneymanGeek How is your running performance these days? Do you run on straight surface or curvy? Do you run everyday? Do you wear somekind of special running shoes?
army issue running shoes, between once and trice a week, depending.
he might want to know what kind of skivvies you wear too, careful
running is very mental tho
@JourneymanGeek What do you mean mental? It's physical.
Its mental
14:51
@somequixotic Actually I wanted to know if he wears any rings or necklace that provides speed improvement. I would need +30 and preferably ring and will be happy. I am also willing to go through dungeon to obtain it if it's the only way.
@JourneymanGeek I probably don't understand it. I also run with music and turn off my brain which helps.
@Boris_yo: no magic shit.
Honestly? 3 times a week, and just keep working at it and you'll get somewhere
oh
and stretch
@JourneymanGeek Where you wanna get? You want to compete army obstacle courses that is required of you on yearly basis?
lol
I want to lose a little weight so my ankles don't hurt ;p
lost about 3kg this round of training cause I switched centers
@JourneymanGeek Then watch out for carbs. When you busy you think less of food.
lol
I don't each much
VERY regular
I don't snack at all
and when I do, its usually fruit
14:56
Then you are not supposed to be overweight...
and I walk like 3-4 km a day
not very overweight, but slightly over
I have ankle issues from when I was in the army proper
I have shitty joints,
