A quick google search returned this: "Your Dream by Big Fam Arrangmints."

lean on.... lean on....
i will try
no
this song even does not exist
;o)
it's something else

very close but it's not it
i can feel it in your tears
i can see it in your eyes....
dream on...
dream on........................
i am sure everybody knows the song
len on or dream on..... in the chorus
it's sung by some guy

"len on" ??
Lean or len?

very high voice....
like Bono
even higher
he has a voice like a woman in that song

12:09 AM
The lyrics you are giving me are wrong because if they were right, then Google would have returned links to at least one lyrics website that matches the words you said.

yeah
i don't remember the lyrics properly
so it can be anything
i mean
lean on
dream on
we won

12:24 AM
i can hear it in your ears
i can see it in your eyes
dream on, dream on....
it's probably not dream on, dream on.... but something like that...
i can feel it in your eyes i can see it in your smile, ....dream on..... dream on....

@Braiam @Hennes Also, drive-by downloads. There are known instances of well-known and trusted sites with malicious code injected to perform a drive-by download, which can easily infect a computer without you knowing. Luckily, the main vector for those attacks is via plugins (e.g. Flash, Java), so keeping plugins disabled or click-to-play is generally safe. Until someone discovers a browser flaw (again), of course.

@Bob again, I use my brain and I don't download things from warez, sharez, download.com, etc. I need something I go to the sources, I don't need it, I don't even look for it

12:56 AM
@Bob Just saw your reply to me from the other day, I can't find anywhere in the BIOS that governs shared graphics. The biggest pain is that the machine doesn't have a monitor attached to it so it should even need RAM for graphics share. :(

1:13 AM
@MichaelFrank: what era machine?

Quite old, but still trucking along nicely.

eww
hp's site is full of fish and broken links
ahh PIV

dang
don't really recall having anything with that config

I'll try a liveUSB later on and see if that picks up all 4GB>

1:17 AM
@MichaelFrank: there's a chance its not configurable
and dosen't use very much

Yea, I can't imagine it would use ~800MB.

also, lets hope its not one of those insyde bioses
64 bit?

Yea
I've had the thing for years. All it's running in my Usenet programs and media server, I wanted to see if I could get it running a Minecraft server for my younger cousins.
store.steampowered.com/app/245470 <--- Government shutdown to retrain everyone on how to do their jobs?

heh
I need to muck with usenet at some point
and heh
I've been tempted to revive my old atom box

Atom... oh dear

oh, desktop/mini itx box
1gb of ram, can quite happily handle 2 hard drives and a sata card

Good for little media boxes

yup
the raspi and one of my VPSes is handling what I used to use it for

1:54 AM
my life is sad
i'm actually kinda ecstatic about this

You should have seen me when i hit 2k

@Braiam That's the thing, though. In theory, any site could be attacked in such a way. Super User could be.

Bob
There are many ways for an attacker to inject malicious code. They could gain access to the servers. They could take advantage of improperly sanitised input.
It doesn't matter how "smart" you are if a trusted site was attacked.

holy spam-flags @JourneymanGeek

Thats a lot of spam flags

2:02 AM
lol
its pretty easy
just look at any question or answer by 1 rep users

yep
Those audits on the review queue are weird...
and throw me off

Then its like
YOU FAILED

i got Steward in First Posts, but i haven't seen a whole heck of a lot of spam there

but i dont know what i did

2:06 AM
review audits in suggested edits are like "why even bother"

Im actually pretty proud of my badges on SU superuser.com/users/80670/simon-sheehan?tab=badges

agh, the elusive (for me) Famous Question. lucky you :P

Bob
2:26 AM
@MichaelFrank typically it's controlled by an OS-level driver
not BIOS options. not on a laptop, anyway

@Bob It's not a laptop though. :)
But it's probably just the age of the computer coming into play.

Bob
ah. desktops typically do not have switchable graphics
you can just rip the card out :P

on board graphics. :P

Bob
(though desktop BIOSes usually do have that option - it's not switchable while running though)
@MichaelFrank wait what were you doing again?
I think I might have confused your problem with someone else's...

the 64bit OS wasn't using all 4GB of RAM. It said 3.24GB was usable.
Computer > Properties > RAM: 4GB (3.24GB usable). etc.

Bob
2:34 AM
Oh, right. Wrong problem, sorry :P

no worries.

@Bob who said I trust sites? I trust only my intelligence and cleverness ;)

lol
I trust my backups

and... I don't do backups... I don't have any "important data" that I "couldn't loose no matter what" :P

Lies, there's always that file you think of the moment you hit "Yes, I'm sure I want to erase all data on this drive."

Bob
2:56 AM
@Braiam By visiting any website, you implicitly trust it.
@MichaelFrank That's why you have multiple backups :P
@Braiam So you'd be fine if I wiped your drive right now?
"important data that you can't lose no matter what" is the type you back up five itmes over.
Everything else? At least once.

@Braiam: > 100gb music collection ;p

@Bob nope, by visiting a site I'm just curious, I trust it when I give the important data
@JourneymanGeek yeah, that hurts :S

@Braiam: backed up in triplicate ;p

@Bob I would be bored rebuilding my system for a couple hours... nothing mayor
anything that I consider important, isn't trusted to anyone/anything else but me...

hmm
@Bob @allquixotic: have you guys taken a look at uzbl ?

I think fucking with that kind of scammer is some kind of geek sport ;p

I got bored and sick of telling them off the back that I'm a tech
@JourneymanGeek Feel free to star that... But I'm off to bed now, gotta work in the morning. Have a good night

kinda ghetto. Also, he used SEVEN flashdrives for readyboost

Bob
5:35 AM
@Braiam The very act of visiting a site means you are trusting it not to exploit your browser/plugins and install and execute malicious software.
That's the whole point.
@JourneymanGeek Nope, what is it? :P
@CanadianLuke Hey, you got one from "Microsoft"! The last one I got was only from "Windows" :(
> Write programs to handle text streams, because that is a universal interface.
That always feels hacked together :\
Universal? Maybe. Fugly? Yes.

Bob
@JourneymanGeek crappy one :(
I hnoestly don't know where do get a good one that doesn't cost $40
cause, ya know, paying more than the pi itself...

@Bob: o0

Q: Google Glass vs Nexus I9250 Spec

Colin747I am doing research at a university which involves Google Glass, however until we get a pair I was thinking of using a Nexus I9250 as a temporary platform to develop with. My question is are the specifications similar enough (CPU and RAM wise) for the Nexus to give an accurate representation of w...

I miss the too localised close reason

@JourneymanGeek Yes, yes and yes!

@Hennes yeah, that annoys me to
I have the fucking badge. I do not have any incentive to robo review. ;p

does windows 8 still do that sensible "if there's no install key, its an evaluation" thing?
I need to do a test, but the windows 8 enterprise edition will take ages to download

@JourneymanGeek IIRC, yes

I THINK I have a windows 8 install iso here somewhere tho

@JourneymanGeek It does a sensible "if you're not activated, I will bug the shit out of you" thing, as i learned just the other day..

oh thats ok
I'll be dumping the install once I know its installed properly

@JourneymanGeek and it won't let you personalize a variety of features or access the store.

10:02 AM
also fine

@JourneymanGeek I have several ISOs here. I could start installing a quick VM to test if you want

@OliverSalzburg: Well, what I want to do is see if I can initiate an install atop windows XP ;p
so, naw, I'll do it myself

(and if it doesn't work so hot for you, boot to the install CD for recovery, choose the command prompt, and utilize your good friend bcdedit.aspx0 to force reboot into safe mode / ignoring failures or else A) safe mode is unavailable and B) it will be all "boot failed, I'll correct it!" which will waste an hour "fixing" something, then reboot to "boot failed, I'll correct it!" which will waste an hour again and again

Alright

10:05 AM
lol
@JimmyHoffa: I prefer fresh installs...
OHHHHHH
OH
you guys are geniuses

I had to learn this information just this week myself as I upgraded to windows 8 and found out any nvidia drivers newer than sometime late last year results in windows 8 booting to a blank screen which is ever so useful and safe mode not being available was a nice surprise

The other day I saw an instruction for setup of a MySQL analysis script. It started with wget mysqltuner.pl and I was like "Jeeze, why don't you give me the full URL?!" So I googled it, found it on GitHub and then later realized, mysqltuner.pl is the full URL :P

thats cute

@OliverSalzburg I'm not sure I would use some mysql config script hosted in poland to configure my own MySQL server... who knows what it's setting your server up for O_o

@JimmyHoffa It is a read-only script
And I downloaded it from GitHub, because I didn't understand that it was the full URL

10:09 AM
@OliverSalzburg Did you read the script end to end and inspect it with your intimate perl knowledge to be sure it wasn't obfuscatedly adding users to your system or downloading/installing a CnC server? :o

@JimmyHoffa Yes

O :)

mysql tuner just runs through your system and suggests sensible settings

Your mySQL admin password is too long. It will be hard to remember. We suggest setting it to "1234". ;-)

10:13 AM
@JourneymanGeek "Uninstall MySQL and install a real RDBMS [Y/n]?"

lol
@JimmyHoffa: some stuff you just need it for
like wordpress

@JourneymanGeek Aye. I have it now for my Myth machine I just setup

@JourneymanGeek Anime fanboy maybe...

@JimmyHoffa: I use a shared instance for wordpress. Been mostly been using pgsql for stuff - I run a ttrss and a discourse instance.

10:15 AM
And it now prints [OK] Highest usage of available connections: 12% (19/151) Weee \o/

It still gives me the willies anytime I try installing something that requires me to have MySQL running

It was at 152/151 previously ;P

@OliverSalzburg "And the good lord said, let there be off-by-one errors" ?

@JimmyHoffa There is some sort of "When the limit is reached, you can still connect once more to remedy the situation" thing, as far as I understand

OLiver: that reminds me of hero quest, the quest or glory (about 4 1.2MB floppies worth of game)
I finished it with 501 out of 500 points

10:21 AM
@JourneymanGeek wondershare.com/company/company.html The question is fairly answerable by a mod just checking if his IP originates from Shenzhen
(I have a feeling the answer is Spammer)

@Bob Convenient, you don't have to power-cycle it manually to get the connectivity to come back up, sounds like a feature to me

@Hennes looks like we've got ourselves a joker

Yup

10:33 AM
@JourneymanGeek I am so glad I don't have to deal with admin stuff one single bit other than my frobnicating at home.

Hooray for the SysAdmin role, and hooray for other people filling it.

Nope. Noone ;-)

ok, this router is weird
unplug two clients? it works
OR
disable wifi - it works

@JimmyHoffa this is personal stuff ;p

Bob
leave everything on? random restarts

@Hennes oh, thats a mate of larry the lobster

@Bob Correction, routers are weird. Hell to my eyes the whole of the networking world is weird

so, just flag em ;p
@Bob: overloaded?

Bob
10:42 AM
@JourneymanGeek not sure. 4 LAN clients + wifi counts as overloaded?

in theory, no

Bob
how much extra power can two LAN clients use anyway

over 9000?

Bob
which unit? :P

;p
Power Levels, duh!

10:43 AM
@Bob HALs

if someone "like" a picture on my fb page (but not "like" my page) , will he be automatically subscribed to future updates of my fb page?

@NokImchen If they weigh as much as a duck, they're a witch, post-burned witches are not subscribed to future updates of anything, pre-burned witches may be subscribed to some things whether by automated or manual fashion, non-witches are however unproven due to lack of current duck-testing efforts.

@JimmyHoffa It's a match. He's actually originating from a wondershare domain ;P
Flag at will, I'm a bit busy right now

@JimmyHoffa your English is like William Wordsworth's poem! So hard to understand, i have read it 3 time again and again, but understood nothing, duck? witch? whats that? :|

And as in uffish thought he stood,

I prefer it when the poet is mad rather than his poetry..

Every morn and every night
Some are born to sweet delight
Every night and every morn
Some to misery are born

@JimmyHoffa There was a Batman Animated Series episode based on this poem that poem you edited out

That's better.
...though I always get those two verses backwards from memory, just like that...

11:10 AM
I'm not too much into poetry, but the best ones I know unfortunately aren't in English

@JimmyHoffa Is that your own writings? or copy paste?

@NokImchen It's not copy paste, but it's not mine either. It's William Blake

@NokImchen In that case he'd be calling himself mad. And using the third person to refer to himself. Hmmm....

Auguries of Innocence is a poem from one of William Blake's notebooks now known as The Pickering Manuscript. It is assumed to have been written in 1803, but was not published until 1863 in the companion volume to Alexander Gilchrist's biography of William Blake. The poem contains a series of paradoxes which speak of innocence juxtaposed with evil and corruption. The poem is 132 lines and has been published with and without breaks that divide the poem into stanzas. An augury is a sign or omen. The Poem To see a world in a grain of sand And a heaven in a wild flower, Hold infinity in ...

@JimmyHoffa oh, you memorized his poems? ah, good memory!

11:13 AM
@ThatBrazilianGuy And then there's this Portuguese guy from the early 1900's that not only created seven different alter egos but each and every one of them had a different style, a different biography, and each and every one of them wrote pretty awesome poetry. And some criticized the work of the others.
Fernando Pessoa, born Fernando António Nogueira Pessoa (; June 13, 1888 – November 30, 1935), was a Portuguese poet, writer, literary critic, translator, publisher and philosopher, described as one of the most significant literary figures of the 20th century and one of the greatest poets in the Portuguese language. He also wrote in and translated from English and French. Early years in Durban {| class = "toccolours" style="float: left; margin-left: 0em; margin-right: 1em; font-size: 100%; background:#c6dbf7; width:30em; max-width: 55%;" cellspacing= "5" | style="text-align: left;" | Nothi...

@NokImchen Hell no. Just parts of some of them. I'm large fan of his works, but my copy of his complete works is a number of thousand pages, no way I could memorize any real portion of his works.

Sorry, I said seven? Make that 81, and that's only the known ones.
Does that count as mad to you @JimmyHoffa?

@ThatBrazilianGuy Works for me. Were his writings aberrant nonsense, or cognizance from an incognizant mind?

@JimmyHoffa No, quite ellaborated and coherent. And pretty good.

@JimmyHoffa hmmm.... i used to hate all the poets (specially the 3 Williams, Shakespeare+Words+Blake) when i was in school 'cos i have to suffer studying their works :P

11:17 AM
Pessoa is a really, really important poet for the Portuguese language.
And his main alter egos had quite different styles indeed
One was like an idillic poet that celebrated nature
Other was a somber, dark, urban poet

Cool. may have a look at some of his works

I don't remember the others

@NokImchen I never studied any of it in school so I've only enjoyed his works from my own interpretation and enjoyment

Same here. When I was in high school I had already read some books I was ordered to. My friends hated it, because they were ordered to read just for studying it.

omg! you people are soo bookworm! I always hated poems :(
i had to memorize the poem 'cos teacher may ask any damn paragraph (stanza)

11:26 AM
It seems to me the whole approach to studying Poetry is backwards; they pick some selection of historic poets and then expect you to read, learn, and most importantly understand their poems in the way you're told to understand them which is wholely counter to the purpose of poetry to begin with, no poet writes poetry to be read and studied and catagorized and catalogued based on genre, era, country of origin. Poets write poetry for people to read and enjoy in whichever way they may.
But what do I know, I've never studied poetry at all, maybe poetry classes do make sense or something.

Bob
Everything is overanalysed in "English" (aka Lit. Studies) classes :(
It takes all the enjoyment out of it. I'm pretty sure I hate Shakespeare and poetry now.

i remember a poem something like "oh captain my captain", i did not know anything what the poem was about (something about civil war) but i memorized it like a song and did so well in exams that i got the best marks :P

@NokImchen Memorizing poetry "just for the sake of memorizing it" is terribly dumb and sterile. That's not what "knowing it by heart" should mean.

@NokImchen That poem is so unbelievably famous, and yet I doubt most people enjoy it, I know I don't, it's one of those things people know about because they were forced to learn it or it makes them sound smart, but in the pantheon of creative writings it's a bloody dull bit of poetry

11:33 AM
"Poetry Day on SU. Next: IPv6 day on Poetry.com"

IPV6? hehe spammers best friend :P

"Oh captain my captain
why for hast thou so many bytes?
'twas for my captains trundle bed
that my nic hast such lights"

@JimmyHoffa eeee! "twas", "hast"!! that English sounds like Chinese :P

@JimmyHoffa I think I only know the first verse, and only because the Dead Poets Society

@NokImchen I'm not convinced it's english, I think they're just words people made up and collectively agreed upon as the standard way to sound ridiculous

11:37 AM
@JimmyHoffa i love this quote by William Shakespeare, something like.. Nothing is good or bad, thinking makes it so

@NokImchen I prefer the more derivative "Nothing is good or bad, I will cut you!!" I think that was Lenin or maybe it was Lenny Kravitz

Bob
@NokImchen Or worst enemy. No more ISP-level NAT.
No more dynmaic IPs.
Just block their IP (or /64 block) and they're gone. Unless they can get another allocation.

People usually think poetry needs to be *so damn pompous*. I love a brazilian poem that goes a bit like this:
"Give me a cigarette/Says the grammar/of professor and student/and
of the wise mulatto/But the good black and good white/of the Brazilian Nation/Say every day/Cut it out friendl / Gimme a cigarette"

@NokImchen: or you could just filter content

hmmm... topic is going more serious, i (layman) is not understanding anything! logging off :P

11:41 AM
damn it ;p

@ThatBrazilianGuy Heh that is actually pretty great, poetically bumming a cigarette, only makes sense when the fact of the matter is poets like themselves a cigarette and are supposed to be poor by convention

"Give me a cigarette
Says the grammar
of professor and student
and of the wise mulatto
But the good black and good white
of the Brazilian Nation
Say every day
Cut it out friendl
Gimme a cigarette"
da!

@ThatBrazilianGuy what is that? Cigarette, professor, grammer, etc? i goggled but got nothing! :|

also, probably is better in the original klingon Brazilian Portugese.

@JimmyHoffa I have a strong suspicion he was just using the literal example of cigarretes to mock the pompous speech and say speaking informally is much more authentic.
But what do I know.
Another famous poet has a famous-to-the-point-of-memorized-in-school poems that says "On my way there was a stone. There was a stone in my way. I'll never forget this fact imprinted on my tired eyes, that there was a stone in the way etc etc etc".
Once it was a question on a national examn, asking what was the meaning, what he meant to say. There was a heated debate over the right answer.
The poet was still alive, so they asked him. He said it meant he once was taking a walk and there was, literally, a stone.

11:47 AM
@ThatBrazilianGuy this is what happens when I'm forced to be up at 2am to be monitoring systems for a load test at 3am. I'm an SE not an SA, I'm not supposed to be functional at this hour. There isn't enough coffee in Brazil to upgrade my current mental capacity from the topic of rambling nonsense to functioning SE...
