lol
@r.tanner.f: Its markdown. ;p
@allquixotic: least it isn't OO/LO writer

12:16 AM
@JourneymanGeek markdown?

the formatting you use throughout the SE sites is called markdown
its suprisingly intuitive, and just useful enough to be annoying

Oh, I was talking about Vimium

@r.tanner.f <- i was referring to this ;p
needs to use reply to more effectively

4 hours later…
4:43 AM
What am I doing wrong here ?

4:55 AM
@jokerdino ping are you there ?

yep

Can you suggest me some really light linux distro ?

lubuntu?

i do not want it to be based on debian
or ubuntu
Want to try something new

lubuntu, based on lxdm
if super light, you can just install a very light Desktop environment

4:56 AM
oops, missed the not

oh

@jokerdino I already have that

ok check distrowatch.com

I have x,l,k (ubuntu)
@jokerdino whoa there are a lot of ditros
Is it possible to install Arch without having to constantly look up documentation

@HackToHell :P
@HackToHell never really tried it

4:59 AM
I have only one computer yannow
What about Gentoo ?

worse than arch
you got compile everything from source

Must be interesting ;p

I think Paul uses Gentoo.

Does Arch have a GUI installer ? ;p

doubt so.

5:04 AM
I am gonna go with fedora ;)

good luck

5:39 AM
arch dosen't have a gui installer
it has a decent curses one, as long as you have interwebs
gentoo is a minor pain if you don't have a large jug of coffee and a long weekend
@HackToHell: siltaz or vector linux maybe?

5:54 AM
Hmm Fedora 17 runs well
It uses 400mb with KDE and null swap
Ubuntu uses 600mb
@JourneymanGeek i will check them out
One's based on Slackware and another one is too small ;p
@JourneymanGeek and btw
1 hour ago, by HackToHell
user image

6:20 AM
hmm
@HackToHell: Its pretty powerful for the size

1 hour later…
@HackToHell OAG

@jokerdino OMG ?

@HackToHell no OAG meme
overly attached gf ..

LOL

what the heck is /r/ggggg

7:56 AM
who noes

i see thousands of ggggg

wow the world is retarded

lol
@HackToHell the irony..
how do i add someone on reddit as friends?

idk

ok i added anyway
it's just a personal feed
like circling people on G+

2 hours later…
9:36 AM
@HackToHell: There was a new episode yesterday...

@HackToHell @jokerdino @TomWijsman Hey yo!

ooh, might have a fun one

Hello!

yep saw it on reddit

Which of the following is most appropriate IYHO?

a) Update BIOS after migrating OS to SSD
b) Update BIOS prior to migrating OS to SSD

9:45 AM
dosen't really matter

b!
as of update what do you mean ?

There's something odd going on

lol

@JourneymanGeek Three minutes?!

ya
interestingly the older version of soluto didn't pick up that it took that long
@TomWijsman: I could have sworn it felt longer

10:08 AM
@HackToHell Updating my BIOS from A04 to A13
Guys, how do I contact commenter on one of my questions? Do I just @ comment or I can ping him through SU chat?

replying to the comment works I think

@TomWijsman How long did it take to get gentoo up and running ?

@HackToHell: A day or so, I can help you through ssh to speed up the process though. :)
screen -x <3

XD
@TomWijsman: what got me with my last install was spending a day getting the damned thing working, then needing to recompile my kernel for X

@JourneymanGeek I find it better to start from a genkernel kernel and then skim down from there, instead of building up from an empty config and have nearly support for nothing. But yeah, learning to jump in the kernel to enable support for one or another thing is a necessity.

10:20 AM
we will see ;) I am having a crazy idea to install Arch right now

Why Arch? Do Gentoo!

@TomWijsman: I was following the manual
genkernel would likely have been less painful

I will do Gentoo after Arch

Yeah, most go for the lower level kernel stuff because that's listed as the default and genkernel as the alternative.

and the manual is like "No don't do genkernel, you NEED to do it properly"

10:21 AM
So here's the idea, I install Arch in a Virtual Drive using VirtualBox, then somehow add it to my HDD in a partition and boot and run it !
I am still trying to find out how to merge the virtual HDD into a partition

@HackToHell: Yeah, that's quite possible.
@HackToHell: Mount it, use the magic dd, then fix the partition size?

@TomWijsman it's as simple as that ?
Complications will surely arise
And I have no space

VHD's are mountable.

But linux does not support them <_>

But yeah, it should be as easy as that if your virtual partition < real partition.
@HackToHell: The question is rather whether you can put ext3 on a VHD.
I mean, VirtualBox can use VHD, I think.

10:25 AM
@TomWijsman First I have to download Arch half of an hour remining

10:45 AM
Hello

@njallam Hi

@jokerdino Hi
Any ideas on this anyone?

Which one?

Q: How do I check if a Windows key is genuine without activating it?

njallamI need a way to test if a Windows 7 key is genuine, and for what version it is so. I would like to do this without activating it. What would be ideal is an application where I can input a key, and have it tell me what Windows it is for (7, Vista, XP, etc.) and the type (Home Premium, Profession...

I thought it was on my clipboard
almost posted what I think is an Ultimate key :P

not sure
never had to check for keys

10:50 AM
OK
I'm not sure if Microsoft's servers support it.
The reason why I want to check it is a long one.
OK, it looks like my question is apparently a dupe
Or not.

1 hour later…
Bob
12:27 PM
At what point does the Windows installer ask for a key?

12:43 PM
@Bob What do you mean?

Bob
@OliverSalzburg Before or after system changes?
Oh, after.
Bleh.

1:21 PM
@Bob: after everything is copied over, after the first reboot, before you boot into the system
I've flagged this but...

A: aa1backup (acer aspire one backup) where it gone?

Khuda AdanoAs others have stated, most fellows are stupid when it is identified with Procellix Cellulite Cream. Do you recall a more concrete version of Procellix Cellulite Cream? We don't have Procellix Cellulite Cream in our neck of the woods. This is a big whopping theory. This is one of the biggest prob...

Transformers III review ^
1. Please note that if the A05 or after A05 BIOS and before A08 is currently installed on your system
you must first update to A08 BIOS and then flash to the latest A-rev BIOS.
2. Please note that if the A04 or before A04 BIOS is currently installed on your system,
you must first update to A05 BIOS and then flash to the latest A-rev BIOS.
So if I have A04, I update to A05 and then to A13 (latest) OR to A08 and the follow from there?

1:41 PM
@Boris_yo Good question :D
Doesn't really make sense

2:11 PM
@OliverSalzburg Not sure but I think update to A05 first, A08 second and then carry on from there.
@Madboy Are you there?
@OliverSalzburg Now can this be called Irony?

@Boris_yo Journalistic garbage :P

2:29 PM
@OliverSalzburg No, the story about how Bockbuster's customer founds Netflix and beats them.

I have never been a customer of either company.
But stating "X could have bought Y some years ago, now Y is worth 1000x as much as X" isn't really worth writing an article about. I mean, what is the author implying? That Blockbuster management is stupid for not making that deal?

2:53 PM
@OliverSalzburg I don't know. Just 1 mistake can lead to unforseen consequenses?

@Boris_yo Well, I don't know if it was a mistake at the time. Yes, in hindsight it would have been a great move if they had bought them. But that can be said about many things. It would have also been smart if I had bought as much Apple stock as I can when they were going public.

3:13 PM
@OliverSalzburg And how much in percentage did their stock grow since they gone public?

Seems like, when they went public in 81, a share cost 4$. It's now valued at 660$

Who tried this mouse?

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=7186041&sku=L23-8201

That's 16500%, right?

@OliverSalzburg That's crazy ROI...
@OliverSalzburg Hey if I knew who wins in soccer I would bid on team and win millions.

If I knew Britney Spearks will spit out her gum several years ago, I would record this, collect gum and sell it on eBay for hundreds of thousands.

@Boris_yo Indeed
@Boris_yo :D

Any one is using Win 8 dual boot along with Win 7?

Ell
Hi guys

@avirk I'm dual booting Gentoo and memtest86+

@TomWijsman :P
Hi
@TomWijsman however I have got the tutorial but I want to conform from someone who is using it :)
@TomWijsman How to geek has the article :)
@Ell hi

@avirk The VHD method originated from Scott Hanselman, so see his method instead. But I suppose that one would work as well...
Nice to see PS support for unpacking it, but you can also just attach the VHD in the installer as well (using some command line magic).

5:12 PM
@TomWijsman can you link me there?
@TomWijsman I donno how to do that?

@TomWijsman Is it not possible to set up the dual boot like we did for XP and 7

@avirk: Yeah, that is quite possible.
Just make the dual boot as usual.
The above methods are solely for running VHD-based installations.

@TomWijsman I will prefer that one
@TomWijsman as we do that process usual aha thanks
I was thinking that there could be any other problem with the boot process
as my friend who gave me the ISO of 8 has mess up with his dual process
also I dunno, he was saying that he put the product.ini of the 7 in ISO of 8 :D
So i think there could be some problem can arise to me when I'll go to activate it :P
@TomWijsman good night c u tomorrow have to wake up early in morning :)

5:29 PM
@avirk That's... weird. :D

Well for better or for worse, the eBay seller for the 27" monitor of mine that futzed out is having it picked up and returned, and they're going to replace or refund it.

5:47 PM
Dinna time!

6:13 PM
@nhinkle Yours broke?

@OliverSalzburg it never really worked to begin with

Oh. That sucks :(

yep

6:39 PM
Hey there
I've posted the question, but seems the tags are not popular, that's why I think it will be problematic to get answer.
But it's really actual question for nowadays, so if anyone want to discuss, please superuser.com/q/466293/89674 waiting you

@TuralTeyyuboglu If you don't trust them, don't give them your data
And, no, you should never trust them
What it comes down to is that they have your data and someone can read it. Maybe it's just that one bored admin... :P

OMG. who voted to close this question? what's wrong with question?

@TuralTeyyuboglu I wanted to close it as Not Constructive after I read the title :P
It's not really the type of question that be reasonably answered on SU.

@OliverSalzburg ok. I've nothing to say really

@TuralTeyyuboglu The thing is, only actual representatives of those companies could give you a real answer about how private your data actually is. Everyone else will just be able to offer you opinions.
And even if someone with authority would answer, who says you can trust that person?

6:47 PM
@OliverSalzburg true

@TuralTeyyuboglu Maybe the topic is viewed differently on Web Applications
If that's even on-topic there... Just an idea. Might be worth searching what they have in those tags.

1 hour later…
8:09 PM
@TomWijsman Hahah! I want to see more! Yeb-yeb-yeb COMPUTOR!
@nhinkle How long has it been at your disposal?

Q: Can I identify when a tag has been made on Data Explorer or the SE API?

Tom WijsmanSo, there's an idea I had ... Tags that are very old and have a low number of questions, are probably not really useful. ... which made me want to write a query for checking them out. Wait, what... There's no field to access the creation date of the tag! Can the tag creation date be add...

NEED MOAR META DATA!

Q: Spammers exploiting the URL in the user profile to bypass spam protection

DragonLordIt seems spammers have found a way to work around spam filters using the URL in the user profile. This can come from the Home Page field in the form that unregistered users must fill out (the following image is from Android Enthusiasts): At least one user (see here) has exploited this by post...

Why did SE just share this on chat?

@TomWijsman No idea

Looked at the timeline and so on, nothing that indicates why. Weird...
