I did investigate a bit further and realized the closing of the connection to the database is intentional. The connection should be reestablished for the next polling run. But it isn't.

Yes. You can customize the icon and label as shown by Windows Explorer by editing (or creating) the Autorun.inf file in the root folder of the removable drive.
The path for the icon is relative:
[Autorun]
Icon=my_icon.ico
Label=My Drive

I find it weird that people usually compare the quality of the software itself to the price of it. I put much higher value into support than the software itself.

Reminds me of the opposite situation. But that was my brother's fault. I had a dangling phone cable under my desk since the phone it was hooked to got busted. My router was sitting there too. My little brother came in, saw the cable and the router, and figured it'd be a good idea to plug the phone cable directly into an ethernet port. When I got home, I found phone service to be dead
Spent some time on the cell with a Verizon rep, running through all the troubleshooting steps and eventually found it. Apparently if you have your phone jack plugged into a LAN port on a router, it kills your phone. :P

opening the page via a web proxy, it works, viewing the google cached copy, it works, opening an image from the website, works, opening a page, doesn't!
If you're only getting part of the page, with a "waiting for response from...", then there's definitely a request or similar that's not getting a reply...
yeah but why would the request be different between 2 PC's with almost exactly the same hardware, exactly the same OS and updates, using the same connection...

I can use it for personal use, they're just buying stuff for some employees to be nice I guess.
I've had to manually clean out the Windows registry on XP once when iTunes blew up. I also had to manually clean out a PC infected with multiple trojans and IE hijacks, a broken Office install (if it ever was...) and remnants of 2 different AV software package installations (McAfee and Norton). It took me 2 days to get it in a workable state.
These sessions always accompany small lectures on best practice while using the computer :P
