@studiohack I'll beg the mods there to do it if you give it to me on SU ;)

12:17 AM
@SimonSheehan you need another 750 rep, roughly. I just need 10. :P

@studiohack Hm, looks like you now have a new privilege !
"It's just like...magic"

Is it normal for my flag weight to have four decimal point precision?

Yes
Once your over 500 it gets like that
Since it stops going up by 10s
Mine is flag weight 606.2555

Oh good, I thought I had broken something lol

12:37 AM
Nah. It makes it harder to get to 750 flag weight

1 hour later…
2:00 AM
thanks @SimonSheehan for the "magic" ;P

lmao

Ah, another interesting case...
I'm extracting a file to E:
Apparently it is doing something temporary on C:, interesting...
I would think that doing the extraction itself on a separate drive is inefficient.
And well, I need to fix this to decrease writes to the SSD.
Apparently writes to %LocalAppData%\temp\ which is for some reason not yet linked to my E: drive yet...
Might be the result of Internet Explorer cache cleaning.
Fixed anyhow.
Whoa, Teracopy handles full disks properly, cool...

3:45 AM
teracopy is great ;p

Oh, quack no longer has his diamond.

6:55 AM
@TomWijsman was done long ago

Didn't even know he had one ever :O

oh he did, quite a while back

Inactive over a year, heh, that'd be why I didn't know

Q: What happened to "quack quixote" ?

Mehper C. Palavuzlarquack quixote is a moderator of SuperUser, and I realize that he's not been around quite a while. I checked his profile, and he was last seen on July 13th 2010 at 17:17. Does anyone (esp. the moderators) know what happened to him? Has he left Stack Exchange community? Will he be back someday?

Back in February he still had the Diamond, and I believe the months after too. Must have lost it one of the recent months...
Someone (Ivo? Can't remember...) told me he still had it because he did all the hard work over the years he was a moderator.

Q: Idle moderator position

Mehper C. Palavuzlarquack quixote has left Super User for good (here is the related post), and he still seems to have the moderator position (obviously idle). I think this position should be granted (by election) to an active & regular user. What does the SU team think of that?

Ah, Jeff Atwood said so, I didn't catch that edit though, thanks.
Apr 12 - 14 it is.

yesterday, by Sathya
http://blogs.technet.com/b/mmpc/archive/2011/08/10/can-we-believe-our-eyes.aspx <--- worth a read
@Sathya: Does that apply to Windows 7 too? I really don't trust Windows XP anymore these days...

@TomWijsman yes, it does

@Sathya: Going to try to replicate it, because there might be a difference between FAT and NTFS as well as how the kernel allows files to be named.
Okay, this is fake "о", this is real "o". :D

8:31 AM
the amusing thing is, that may not work in win98 or older ;p

@JourneymanGeek: And it will not work on my system either, because Vundo simply can't write to that folder unless I explicitly give it permission to.
I'm yet to see an effective virus against a Windows 7 64-bit...

Vundo?

> Several days ago, one of our customers submitted a sample (SHA1: fbe71968d4c5399c2906b56d9feadf19a35beb97, detected as TrojanDropper:Win32/Vundo.L). This trojan hijacks the hosts “vk.com” and “vkontakte.ru” (both social networking sites in Russia)and redirects them to 92.38.209.252, but achieves this in an unusual way.
from your link.

@TomWijsman touchwood I haven't had a virus infection since late 2007. And I don't have any AV installed

Virus that has existed for years with some variants, nothing new...

8:38 AM
time for a nap, back later

@Sathya: Same here, I'm running without AV/Firewall/Defender. A monthly scan reveals nothing.
Good night, @Sathya. Unless it's a power nap... :)

well it's an afternoon siesta to be precise :)

Nice, it's morning here.

(I'm in UTC+5.30)

Ah, India, right?

8:41 AM
yes
ciao for now!

9:02 AM
@TomWijsman: well, in the case of win9x, its the lack of unicode support... if i'm remembering it right.

@TomWijsman Not sure how interested you are, but, AFAIK... I am not sure it is really NTFS/FAT related... the FS simply stores the symbol in hex and it is the font of the OS that causes this problem... Another bug, which I loved was non NT based Windows can't access folders with special names... Most schools in England used a RM based network and it will detect disk space usage on start and force you to delete folders... You could get around this by using an Excel Macro to launch a
command prompt, then rename a folder to something like " █ " (Random Alt+code), and it is then not accessible from within non NT based Windows!) :)

9:19 AM
RM?

rm.com- No idea how active they are now, but, I felt they add a bit of value to a MS based network and charge a fortune for it
e.g. imagine a normal windows domain environment, but then adding a lot of tools on top to make non it people able to manage it... I think as MS has added more functionality, they have severely cut back... I don't mind adding value, but, they did things I couldn't forgive, like, their management tools go over the top and they charge for EVERYTHING, for example, adding a module that enables complex password enforcement costs £500!!! For something you should be able to do in group policy for free!
... Own brand stuff in this category - rm.com/shops/rmshop/… I can't find the one I was talking about though
Found it... a site license is actually £900 ... rm.com/shops/rmshop/… That is what I don't like about them... charging schools that amount of money for stuff that should be free/easy to do...

Q: Can a 2GB DDR2 stick become a 1GB stick?

deostrollI've just purchased a 2GB DDR2 RAM. My machine earlier had a 1GB DDR2 RAM stick. Now I put these two sticks together, and my machine, I think, showed only 2GR of RAM? Why is this so? Will using the 2GB+1GB together corrupt the 2GB stick? Update: The computer has a linux based os installed. I ...

Hmm, my router is scheduled to reboot at 05:00 AM, apparently it does the same at 05:00 PM; weird...
0 5 * * * root startservice run_rc_shutdown

@TomWijsman What router is it?
@TomWijsman I've noticed, however, they've stopped imgur links as it's "been reported as offensive, or spam"

@tombull89: Linksys WRT610n running DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/12/10) mega - build 14929
Voila, that should be correct, straight of the admin page. :P

how many times did you edit that? :/
kinda guessed it wasn't a standard SOHO router.

Disabled the reboot.
Actually, I did the reboot to ensure that the router is rebooted at a time nobody uses it.
So that a random reboot would not occur, but apparently it reboots at both 5 AM and 5 PM which is pretty weird.

yeah 5:00am might not be too bad, 5pm might cause a few problems though.

3:16 PM
So I'm left with the mystereous unstable random reboot...
Yeah, causes a near-D/C situation in StarCraft II, for example.
> there are two LONG 610n V1 threads about that discuss the reboot problem in great detail as well as a solution. However, that was a while ago and I would think the solution was incorporated in the later builds. Your problem may be power supply related as it was determined that the ps is undersized for that device with both radios running. There is also two different cfe's for that device. V12 & V16 (If I recall) I believe it was suggested that the V16 cfe was more stable.
I'm thinking it is the power problem.

My home one is a Belkin F5D7634 (well, parent's choice, that is.) Annoyingly it's the -H version which doesn't support bridging, so I have to have a m0n0wall box in the attic connected to a wireless usb dongle to provide internet to my dev network.
Hacky, but it works.

@tombull89: This is from my router, also hacky, but it works apart from < 1 min downtime a day.
The N should make it clear... :P
But to clarify: The top network connection is 5.2 GHz, the bottom 2.4 GHz.
Hmm, @tombull89, I could turn down the power of the router's antennas though...
Fiddle it down a few mW so the reboot is less likely to occur.
Given that it's 5 bars I guess it wouldn't really hurt.

@TomWijsman Is it "overclocked" at the moment or on normal power?

Normal power.

(also, I'm having major lols at that MicrosoftWord97 twitter feed)
Well, try it. See if it does make a difference.

3:23 PM
Not really much of a change, gonna put it 1 down every time that it reboots.
It's on 71 mW, I've put it to 70 mW.
Not really much of a change, but I'm going to put it 1 mW down each time it reboots...

I'd like to try DDWRT or Tomato, it's just finding a router that supports it (and my parents letting me replace the belkin)
No, Clippy. Go away.

Oh my...
A Mac VS PC flame war on a Dutch news article on a thief that stole a laptop from a professional hacker (that had a Mac).

Yeah I've seen many comparison pictures recently.
(I'd still have the HP)

Erm, it's the other way around, so my funny remark doesn't fit...
Just saying, people that think that something of a higher price makes their hardware better are blind...

Not that video from Defcon, was it?

3:33 PM
Dunno what you are talking about?! xD

The one thing that sets Apple apart is their support. Broken iPhone? no worries, replaced. Key missing from keyboard? we'll replace the whole thing.

I think it was something else hang on
good 20-minute watch of whena guy got his Mac stolen and still had access to it:

@tombull89 Yeah, their income allows them to do so. And non-Apple support also has warrant for like 2 years.
Yeah, there is software of that, thiefs usually aren't aware of that software.
All they do is to give it to relatives or try to sell it on the market, they don't care about what's on it and probably wipe it after the laptop has served it's purpose for themselves.

I've recently put Prey on my phone, going to do it on my laptop as well.

3:38 PM
Anyhow, the article I linked is about such a case during the riots in London.
Just funny to actually see people start a Mac VS PC bash on the article, really pointless... xD

Some people don't need any excuse to start...
Even though I don't speak Dutch, I can get a fairly decent idea of what the article is saying.

The start of that video is nice, going to watch through it.
Police mind: "Oh no, it's gonna take down the whole city. Destroy!"

yeah that's just an "intro" to the main thing. Well worth a watch.
Right, now I have to go play Taxi. Yay for being the only brother with a car.

4:26 PM
@TomWijsman I know you're helping with cleaning up the site etc, but is there any value in these sort of edits en masse? superuser.com/posts/102980/revisions / superuser.com/posts/118990/revisions / superuser.com/posts/115389/revisions
I have to run and catch a flight, just thought I'd throw this out there. Thanks all the same

@Gareth: Well, I triggered most of the users that are doing that, and I cleaned up half the questions that do contain HTH.
So, it is kind of an impact normally; as the main users that are doing that won't do it anymore.
But that was at Saturday night when there were no questions at all, right after I did another bunch of top viewed questions.
(which I queued up to do them all at once, and the HTHs don't really take long to delete)
Anyhow, I don't think I really disturbed anyone with that other than leaving a note for those that placed HTH.

what does HTH stand for?

Hope that helps, @CharlesSprayberry, but the majority doesn't know that as far as I know of...

i certainly didn't :P

Even more funny, I saw an user greet someone with HTH as he thought it was his name because it was at the bottom of his answer. xD

4:33 PM
haha, that is pretty funny

I've done my first "close question" vote...ooo.

@tombull89: I'll try to guess what question, hold on...
Oh, you mean that you closed a question.
