@WilliamHilsum: np. Quite honestly PIVs had and needed massive heatsinks. Modern processors are fairly similar to to laptop processors, so that bigass heatsinks throw me for a loop.
@JourneymanGeek I am pretty sure that was just an engineering sample and they hadn't decided on a finshed product, therefore, they give the best of breed heat sink for worst case scenario
@simon: every 5 years is sensible. the core2 just happens to still be good enough, and somehow seems more reliable than almost any other system i have built
realistically if i was building a box today, 1gb video card, lower end asus sound card (i wouldn't get the xcense unless i was far underbudget), SSD + 3tb drive
