@IvoFlipse botsnack

o_O

sorry what?

nhinkle is confused

9:09 PM

@IvoFlipse, O_o
for some bizarre reason, that reminds me of this:

whoo! I'm on Fedora 12!

@nhinkle: Looking into them.

@TomWij i'm in the process of editing the screenshots one
so i would avoid making changes to it as our changes might accidentally cancel each other out

@nhinkle: In what way? Adding screenshots of the apps, or removing them, consistency?
@nhinkle: Sure, won't touch anything.

9:19 PM
I'm adding some screenshots, tidying up the organization, adding some more descriptive text, formatting it a bit prettier

Yeah, it would benefit consistency to look of more high quality.
Yeah, the questions you linked look good enough for community wiki.

what's special about Fedora?

ah not much.except I'm horrible in Linux, so it feels cool

If I would go for a full-blown Linux I would go for Fedora.
But because I only use Linux for university-related stuff I'm on a very minimal Gentoo image.
Something like: Kernel + Gentoo Stage3 + Xfce + Eclipse + gdb + valgrind + subversion + chromium

9:28 PM
those features are all BS how do they differentiate Fedora from Ubuntu or whatever else I could pick

I like Fedora because it's fairly up-to-date and tends to be fast.

Although the thing I would love is to have them running simultaneously with coLinux, but that doesn't work on 64 bit.

In all actuality though, the differences between the major distros are fairly minor (at least if you're KDE user like me; things will be shaken up with this spring's releases, when some distros use GNOME Shell, some stick with the classic GNOME panel, and Ubuntu goes Unity...)

Xen Hypervisor comes close, only a hotkey to switch between OS would be awesome, but didn't got that to work...
@IvoFlipse You differentiate based on those features...
What else would you differentiate on?
In the end they can do the same thing...

performance, user interface, stability, features others don't have
ah, now that's a good point: they're all pretty much the same

A: Screenshot utilities for Windows

Michael PryorFree Generic On any version of Windows, you can hit Alt+PrtScr (capture the current window) or just PrtScr (capture the entire screen). This will copy that image to the clipboard, after which you can paste it into any image program like Photoshop or even Paint. On Windows Vista and Windows 7, ...

updated and niceified

which is funny, because what they often don't do is run Windows apps particularly well :P

It's a distribution you choose, not an OS, so you choose for an initial set of stuff you want and build on that.
Because I don't want a lot of things and go for a minimal installation, I went for Gentoo.

I'm considering installing Ubuntu (or whatever flavor) because there's a real good Linux-only Python IDE
really awesome edits @nhinkle

And if I would be a Linux user I would go for Fedora because it's "a powerful enterprise OS", I like the blue themes and the application set looks nice.

thanks @IvoFlipse :)
now off to take a break
see you all in a while

9:38 PM
@IvoFlipse: What IDE?

Hmm, seems to be a custom build VM image.
What?

A: How to know wifi mac address on Linux (Ubuntu)

The command ip addr will tell. ifconfig is a tool obsolete since 2001.

Is that true? :S
Awesome.

Hi everyone :D

hey @BloodPhilia

Did anyone know that AskUbuntu lets low rep users edit posts and answers after peer review?
Hi @studiohack

9:49 PM
yeah, but that's happened here too? @BloodPhilia

@studiohack haha! never knew, I never could when I was < 2000

it is a really new feature @BloodPhilia

Oh right :P I pretty much figured

I know! When I browse SU on my phone, I get confused all the time :P
Especially when checking the /election page... a few times every hour... XD

humdrum... @BloodPhilia

9:54 PM
Haha! I love that word I do!

oh same here, election page is a must every few hours. except now I have to wait until it is over to see who is winning etc.
i know, I just had to bring it up @BloodPhilia !! :P

I know right :(

primaries were fun...but not final. so we'll see about the elections. I really hope we get some good moderators in to help @IvoFlipse and Diago... @BloodPhilia

Pretty much

I dunno, have no idea where he lives

Not far!
Lol

9:59 PM
@IvoFlipse 35 minutes away by car
Arnhem here

Which is like, really really close

seriously? I've lived there nearly all my life :P

haha! what a coincidence
I've been studying in Nijmegen for the last 1,5 year

10:00 PM
Psychology =P

the love of blood @IvoFlipse

Lol @studiohack

I love psychology

10:01 PM
Well I dropped out I'm afraid
Turned out it wasn't my cup of tea after all

who are you talking to, @IvoFlipse??

oh right
@BloodPhilia @studiohack ;P

people watching is my hobby...lol

you should try coffee instead
so what are you planning on studying now?

I could use some
I'm not sure yet

10:02 PM
coffee?!
@IvoFlipse is off his rocker today. but he may not know that idiom.

I was planning on doing HBO instead of WO

good choice, I took the easy way
HAVO --> HBO --> WO :)
easy time in college, easy time in undergrad school, easy time in grad school :D

Haha
I did VMBO (1e), HAVO (2e), VWO (3e-6e), WO (1,5 year), HBO (?)

WTH!?

jeez :P

10:04 PM
Haha XD

but no idea what direction to go into?

Hi you @KronoS

considered programming/ICT?

Not really
I might, I'm not sure yet

Hey @bloodphilia what the heck are you all talkin about?

10:05 PM
Haha, the education I had/will have

because I really disliked messing around with Delphi back in grad school, but after I got to mess around with some 3D kinematics measurements

man all your abbreviations make noooo sense to me

all of sudden math becomes fun!
but now it's time for bed, need to get 'something'done tomorrow

'something', eh?

That's not too weird @nhinkle They're the abbreviations for dutch educational grades

10:06 PM
@nhinkle exactly! That's what I'm saying

H(higher) A(general) V(advanced) O(education)

Right, but since I'm from the US, they don't make sense to me :P @BloodPhilia

Ah well, Nitenite @IvoFlipse

something means, trying to learn something new in Python @nhinkle

ours don't make much sense either though
sounds fun @IvoFlipse
sleep well

10:07 PM
@BloodPhilia you can help me get Kinect working ;)
in Python :P

Haha

but that's for tomorrow!

Like the xbox system?
I'm getting sleepyyy

i used someone's kinect recently. it was odd
i enjoyed the novelty of it, and it would be fun to hack around with, but i can't see myself using it for entertainment much

Perhaps you can use it to control your low orbit space craft

10:12 PM
I get a low orbit space craft? COOL!

:D I know right!
imagine flying it using a kinect system
I think SU hands those out to +50k rep users

Hm. Guess I've got some work to do

Indeed my young padawan, indeed

@BloodPhilia no, but at SO if you hit 200k you get one of these:
Posted by Jeff Atwood on September 1st, 2010

Have you ever wondered what happens when you reach 200,000 reputation?

Just ask Jon Skeet.

Apparently, what happens is … you get a painting of unicorns, signed by us, dedicated to you.

Estimated value? Priceless!

Joel and I actually sat down with Mr. Skeet himself to record Stack Overflow podcast #72 during the London leg of DevDays — in the very Google offices pictured here.

Although we sometimes joke that Stack Overflow was accidentally constructed as the ultimate Jon Skeet honeypot, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that Jon has a long history of answering people’s questions not just on Stack Overflow, but all over the internet and usenet. Apparently he enjoys learning alongside his peers and teaching others. Which, at least in my mind, is the whole point of Stack Overflow and the rest of the Stack Exchange network. So if we have somehow managed to build the sort of site that attracts people of Mr. Skeet’s caliber, then we have succeeded far beyond my wildest dreams. …

Haha!
Still, I think I'd like the low orbit space craft better

10:17 PM
that might be a bit more expensive than SO wants to spend though

Equipped with ion cannons of course ;)

10:33 PM
@IvoFlipse I asked the author of the screen replacing post and he said he'd take some pictures the next time he does a screen replacement and upload them to the post, but it might be a few weeks 'til he does one

1 hour later…
11:34 PM
Good evening, everyone.

Evening @Mark

Hi, @DanielBeck. How are you?

I seem to attract the downvotes lately for some reason.

Hmmm.

evening all

11:40 PM
Evening, @studiohack.
How are you?

evening @studiohack

@DanielBeck: i didn't downvote you,infact I even upvoted you, last night I think it was :P
I'm good @MarkSzymanski. yourself?

I'm doing great, thank you.

For those interested in Personal Development, Productivity and Organization; check out a long post I just wrote that takes SU as an example:
0
A: Merging Personal Development with GTD

TomWijLet's compare this to an existing example... Super User is a great example of a site that handles multiple topics: hardware and software The audience here are Super Users, the computer fanatics, and for them it works great! Recently, we even removed the hardware and software tags as they were ...

@DanielBeck: None of those dvs are mine, either.

11:40 PM
good to hear@MarkSzymanski

@studiohack @Mark Didn't imply that you did. Wasn't a good answer anyway, but not that bad either...

@DanielBeck: I know, just letting you know.

no, just pointing out in general. I know @DanielBeck

Thanks. That leaves only, uh, 15470 other suspects ;-)

hahahahahahahaha!

11:43 PM
I recently discovered data.SE and love it.

> I don't know! I don't know why I did it, I don't know why I enjoyed it, and I don't know why I'll do it again.
