What about the secret hat "This is Fine"? Has anyone gotten that?

That one's easy: just sit in a burning building for a few minutes.

@Mark live in the year 2020

Just from the name, I wonder if it has something to do with some kind of interaction with a "highly active" question
because it has a fire symbol?

9:16 PM
Maybe something like asking a question that then gets protected? It would explain why nobody here has gotten it.

Are there any plans to improve performance on the pop-up on hats on users profiles?
Or even improve that anything is shown?

Also, I've been waiting for several minutes to receive a hat I know I earned. Is that a performance issue or intentional?

I think that's intentional. I think that's a job that runs and assigns hats.

Why would they do that?
Also, it's interesting that the social distancing hat arrives noticeably faster then the others.

I have to imagine that some of the triggers are performance intensive and they don't want to check after every interaction

9:24 PM
Same reason tags or badges are not instantly awarded. They decided to run those in batch. If you get it fast, you're probably just lucky you did whatever you needed to just prior to the job run.

Couldn't they just add a trigger when it processes a edit or things like that?

But very often I land on a profile and the snow icon doesn't appear on the top bar. And no hats with numbers are shown. Reloading doesn't help. Then after 5 minutes, I can reload and then it works fine. But some times clicking on the number hat loads and empty pop-up that's just frozen saying "loading.."
@Anonymous Maybe, but it doesn't seem like they did :)

@Scratte Even the greatest sites have things that the developers miss.

Hi all. Who else got the "cruse of oil" hat?
I think I know what triggers it.

@DuncanC What triggers it?

9:31 PM
Almost anything today :) But only today..

My guess is that you get it if you post an answer on the last night of Channukah.
(Which was last night)

@DuncanC I wish you would have told us that sooner! Oh well...

I looked up "Cruse" and got "an earthenware pot or jar."

All the way to get the Cruse of oil hat

Why would that be the last night though? Why not the first?

9:34 PM
Since Channukah is a story about an oil lamp that lasted 8 days, and "Cruse" is a very old fashioned term for a pot or jar, it seems like a good guess.
Dunno for sure. But I just noticed I had it today, and not before.

@Anonymous Winter bash hadn't started on the first ;)

Still curious about the This is Fine hat...

I bet there will be Christmas themed hats for Christmas Eve, Christmas, and Boxing Day posts.

Do you mean secret hats? Those would be a little obvious if they were for doing something on Christmas.
I just earned the Cruse of Oil on Meta Stack Exchange!

For This is Fine, I'm going to answer a few protected questions to see if that triggers it. Stay tuned...

9:38 PM
All that I did was upvote three posts with the [feature-request] tag to earn the I Wish to Subscribe hat.
Hmm, it couldn't still be about Chanukah, could it?

? This is fine isn't even a new hat.

@Catija Are you saying the trigger is the same? :)

🤦‍♂️ This is my first winter bash and I didn't think to check the triggers from years before

Did we figure out the headphones yet?
I was following post yesterday but I got didn't get it and then out of no where I got it

Ael
@Dharman Yes, you need to follow 8 post
Though we still need someone (@Catija?) to confirm that it's indeed the trigger

9:49 PM
Guess: Cordovan hat is given to commenting on a non-negative-scored post prior to an author edit?

Ael
@Tinkeringbell :O

No that's wrong...
I remembered wrong.

Ael
:'(

Then I need to get This is fine, but I assume I would need to ask a question to get that

Ael
@Scratte Why "non-negative"?

9:50 PM
Perhaps This is Fine is asking a question that gets protected. Is this correct?

@Ael Either non-negative post or a Question. I just kept an eye on a negatively scored Answer and the commenter did not get the hat.

Ohh, I see I need not to get the bounty to get This is fine

Ael
@Scratte Does it works if you are the one to edit the post?

@Dharman No. My guess is about the Cordovan hat only :)

Ael
9:53 PM
@Dharman That's my theory too

@Ael I think it doesn't work if someone else edits the post. But you can try it out yourself.. for science :)

Ael
@Scratte That trigger wouldn't make sense ^^'

@Ael Why not? Lots of users post comments on Questions and ask for clarification.

Ael
@Scratte Yeah, which would make me believe that you need to post a comment and someone else edit

@Ael Someone else cannot edit in clarification :) And the name is Cordovan, which is a dark murky colour.. I expect it could be like a dark murky unclear post.. ?

Ael
9:57 PM
@Scratte I absolutely do not understand what you are saying ^^'
If I am the posting a comment asking for clarification, then I (obviously) need someone else to edit the clarification in the post

Ahh.. sorry for the confusion. The commenter gets the hat. Not the post owner.
So: Post a comment on a Question that gets edited by Question author.

Ael
I guess commenting under a wiki post wouldn't do any good then ^^

I expect that would not work, no. But at this stage I'm only guessing.

The Cruse of Oil has to be something that doesn't involve making any sort of post or comment because I didn't do that. Maybe something involving viewing or voting?

Ael
@Anonymous You just need to "interact" with a site when it's the 18th somewhere in the world
Not just visiting it but voting or editing or posting something

10:05 PM
@Ael The only thing I did was open it earlier today and vote three times to earn the I Wish to Subscribe hat.

10:17 PM
How much rep do I need before I can perform actions to unlock Bouncer / Doorman? Are they all unlockable with the 3,000 rep privileges, or is there some actions I can do to unlock the hats earlier?

Why would that cause it to give me that hat? Maybe something about voting on questions with a certain amount of upvotes already? I did upvote the top three upvoted questions.
@kylejrp I believe you can vote on your own questions without the reputation requirement.

@Anonymous Hah ok, lemme make three spam posts and then flag them for closure (not)

@kylejrp I meant that the only way to do that with insufficient reputation would be that a moderator would close your questions and you could vote to reopen them. Maybe it was a mistake to add this hat because it would encourage you to do that.

Anything for a hat that's going to go away in a few week, huh?

That did happen to me once.

10:26 PM
Yeah that feels like a not so fun way to earn the hat haha, hopefully nobody has thought to do that

Although that still doesn't tell you how to earn the Bouncer hat.

Bouncer isn't secret, is it?

No, Bouncer isn't secret.
> Make 3 reviews in the close votes queue that ultimately get handled the way you recommended, and at least one other reviewer took the same action as you.

This really isn't fair, you can't earn this unless you are a reviewer.
Any other thoughts on the Cruse of Oil hat? Has anyone else gotten it?

@Ael I've checked a Question where someone commented, then a 3rd party edited the post. The user that commented did not get the Cordova

10:34 PM
Do you need to be a reviewer to earn Matryoshka?
> Vote to close or reopen 10 questions that ultimately get closed or reopened

@Scratte Did they participate in hats?

@Anonymous I'm pretty sure we known that the Cruse of oil hat is just interact with a site when it's the 18th somewhere in the world.

@Anonymous Yes. Else one cannot see what hats they have :)

@JacobB However, I only got it on Meta Stack Exchange.

Oops :)

10:37 PM
@Anonymous have you done stuff like voting on other sites?

Yes I have, maybe it's upvoting questions that have been highly upvoted. I'm going to upvote the top three on Stack Overflow and see what happens.

Hmm. That's odd.

No hat yet, although it does sometimes take a while.

@Anonymous I got the "Cruse of oil" from downvoting one post.
That's it.. It came 23 minutes after my vote.

10:42 PM
@Scratte Which post? Did it have a lot of votes or views?

@Anonymous Nope.. low quality "Not an Answer". It was deleted later on. Other users reported getting it from upvoting a post. It's suppose to be just interacting with a post, though I do not think commenting counts.
Hmm.. Or perhaps it was a low-quality Question. I forgot.
I can try to find out, if you really really must know :)

@Scratte If that were true, I would have gotten it on more sites. Maybe it works the other way too or it is for upvoting highly upvoted posts or downvoting highly downvoted posts.

@Anonymous I have it on 17 sites. Just from upvoting (or interacting) any post.

@Anonymous Nope. One downvote on a zero-scored Question. I checked.

I've been upvoting and downvoting quite a bit and I still don't have it. Maybe if I wait for a while, it will be awarded.
I just earned it on Stack Overflow.

10:49 PM
I posted this chat message and I downvoted the post at 15:40:28. I did not do anything else during that period except from chat..

I now earned it on 2 other sites. It seems that it is, in fact, voting on the 18th. Can anyone confirm this (such as @Catija)?

I think Catija will not say that is correct :)

It's not all of the solution. It's an option.

@Catija Maybe voting in general, then.

I think it's voting or posting an Answer or a Question.

10:56 PM
Can I point out the triggers for other single-day hats?

Awesome.. you're so nice :)
It's what I said :)

Perhaps add commenting to the list of things you can do?

Why? If it doesn't trigger the hat?

@Scratte What do you mean by that?

@Anonymous Are you asking for next years trigger for it to be also commenting on a post?

11:01 PM
@Scratte No, I am saying that maybe that's the answer to what qualifies for the Cruse of Oil: voting, commenting, asking and answering on the 28th.
Although that's not a bad idea...

@Catija Are you able to confirm the trigger for the Cordovan on this one ?
@Anonymous Apart being off by 10 (decimal), I think someone already proposed that and it was not confirmed. As in denied :)
See suggestion here, here and here

@Catija How about asking, answering or voting on the 18th?

As a note... I tend to give hints or say no but I try not to actually confirm solutions.

@Catija Hint for Samovar? :-)

And maybe a hint for This is Fine?

The hat is the clue. It requires two parts.
@Anonymous already did.

11:24 PM
@Catija Wait what's the hint for this is fine? ...

@U11-Forward it might be the same trigger as last year meta.stackexchange.com/a/339894/718314

Does that mean we should ask someone else to confirm?

@Scratte It has been confirmed in the 2019 secret hats post already.

@Anonymous In general :) I asked for a confirmation, but there's none either way :)

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ maybe I just have a bad memory but I don't remember staff confirming hats when I was a user.

11:28 PM
Ah. Perhaps the rules have changed then. By the meta post, there's links to "confirmed" :)

I'm not really sure there's "rules".

@Catija Evidently other members of the staff were confirming secret hats.

I think there are no rules. That may be a rule ;)

Yeah. But... doing that kinda leaves y'all with a quick resolution. We're only two days in. There's a fixed number of secret hats. What if you solve them all by Monday because we confirm the solutions are correct?

That's a good point :) Once we know what triggers them everyone may go home and the site will be empty :(

11:43 PM
Don't worry I'll still be here playing hat dash 🦄

@kylejrp I'll bet most of us are.
Question about a non-hidden hat: for Flashlight, do you have to visit any page (even the preferences), a question, a non-question page (such as the homepage) or something else entirely?

@Anonymous It says on the list of hats what you need to do for the Flashlight. The second highest pinned message to the right..

I don't even think you have to visit the site to get flashlight...
