@rob I gave a second thought. I didn't think it was a good question. It seemed to assume that there was some statistic about the Lutheran population and whether or not modern-day Lutherans still do the same things prayer-wise as the earliest Lutherans.

@Anonymous, i c ... generally I would say as a majority no...but then again does any religion do things the way they did "in the day" or has it all become desinceatised as man gets "smarter"...
@rob I don't know about getting smarter. I can say that Man is always evolving. :P
Cultural evolution is much faster than biological evolution.
With so many people connected to the Internet, particularly in wealthier nations, ideas can spread rapidly to many people.
Christians will probably beam at the opportunity to proselytize. :P
I am not sure if Christians have a purpose to all the proselytizing.
Maybe they are serving the Lord... but I doubt people would do so for altruistic reasons. Secretly, I'm sure they have other motivations, like converting people so they can get a job and feed themselves.
This is why I like the Orthodox Christian way of evangelizing: that it's not direct and aggressive.
I wonder if @Daи converted to Orthodoxy, because he liked the Orthodox Christian way of evangelism, or if it's for other reasons.
@Anonymous certainly not my primary reason, but doesn't hurt.
@Daи What doesn't hurt?
@Anonymous the reason you listed
can't chat, I'm coding something and need to focus
@Daи Which reason?
Wait a minute. I think you are talking about the altruistic reasons or maybe get a job and feed oneself.

I wonder if a mental health counselor can go into pastoral counseling and help people with their psychospiritual problems.
Yeah, maybe a client says that he has an alcohol addiction, and the mental health counselor works with the client on his alcohol problem as well as help him grow spiritually.
Maybe the client says that he has an awful pornography addiction, knowing full well that it is degrading to women, and the mental health counselor works with the client on his pornography problem as well as help him grow spiritually. Instead of seeing people as objects, the client uses faith and reason to see people as human beings.

Q: Is this a truth/opinion-based question?

Anonymous1 John 4 talks about godly love. How is this godly love (God's love for mankind by allowing his begotten son to be sacrificed on the cross) different from the humanly love found in human beings? Does this passage mean that people should love each other in the same way they love God? How is this t...

04:03
@Anonymous no, you've misunderstood me. No biggie, nothing worth conversing much about
04:24
I asked that meta question before I found an answer on the Christianity.SE that already answers my question. :P
In today's terms, asking for any "biblical interpretation" would be considered "opinion-based", because there are so many denominations, and the question itself does not have adequate scoping.

@Anonymous, my friend is both...
@rob both mental health counselor and pastoral counselor?
rob
rob
Yes actually he is...he is also an ordained minister...
His main job is in the mental health feild and he does the pastoral counsling p.t.
He is currently retired from being a pastor...
@rob Does he need to be ordained to become pastoral counselor?
rob
rob
No I dont beleive he did...but this is ohio...
I know pastoral counslers that arent ordained...
Matter of fact I know counclers through churches that arent licensed ...
04:34
@rob But they can practice?!?
rob
rob
They seem to...
What about the legal ramifications?
rob
rob
And pastors of course council w/o counsling license...
I think as long as you disclose its ok...
Its more like "peer advice "...get it???
I think a degree in counseling should be required.
rob
rob
Perhaps...I understand why you would want that...
But now days with the internet one can get "licensed " for just a few hundred dollars...
04:39
I think a degree in counseling at an accredited academic institution should be required.
rob
rob
But usally the church counslers i know are counciling on specific things like marrige...
And the usally hold knowledge on what they council on...
accredited academic institution...well the internet has plenty...
Some people may like the traditional classroom setting.
But the Internet does have advantages.
rob
rob
To me it depends on how deep you go also...most folks that get counsling from church understand what they are getting into...
I am licensed ...but I still go to the internet to read up...a intellgent person could very well learn by reserch and do jyst as well as one licensed ...
But i still understand what u mean...
We just understand why...and hold hands...its not like we heal...when it comes to things like that it boils down to the obe being treated...imo
Hey ...u guys were talking justice the other day...just wanted to toss this out for your review...
God’s Justice is: The Love and the Grace of God at work in our lives and in this world.

Justice is; God working in our lives to “make/set things right”.

Not punishment towards the offender; but the restoration/healing of the offended.

Justice from God’s perspective (Biblical perspective) is not focused on punishment”; but on “reconconciliation and healing”.
If you look where justice is at in relation to the context of the chapters its mentioned in I think you can see this correlation ...
Expressing empathy is not as easy as it looks.
It takes practice.
I wonder if a person's fear of blaspheming the holy spirit would count as a reason to seek the pastoral advice of a pastoral counselor.
On the other hand, I think blaspheming the holy spirit is impossible!
@DavidStratton Hello. I know you are here!
04:56
Just passing through.
@DavidStratton Have you ever blasphemed the holy spirit?

Ive always understood that was just the denile of christ...by doing that you refuse salvation and his forgiveness so yoh cant be forgiven...thats why its "unforgivable " because we dont take the forgiveness...

Q: Tensile strength of bone & the bible

Clint EastwoodThe Bible says that Samson "found a moist jawbone of a donkey, and put forth his hand and took it, and killed with it a thousand men." How many Philistines could one actually slay with the moist jawbone of a typical donkey?

Q: Is every major culture in the same year?

Paul MantaIn the Western world the current year is 2014, which is the number of years since the birth of the Christian messiah. Given that Christianity is not the dominant religion in every part of the world, I would expect that there are some cultures that are not in the year 2014. I have been unable to f...

@WasthereeveranElisha? Just a little too much speculation involved there. We would need about 100 volunteers and a donkey jaw to really test this ;)
"how did the Europeans come to have such a strong influence over the entire planet, even over countries such as China?" Would you like a volume of books? because that's how long a decent answer would have to be. Essentially, it all boils down to European colonization from 1500 to 1800. Mostly English colonization, but the French, Spanish, and Portuguese had the same kind of influence over the world, just to a lesser extent. — fredsbend 2 mins ago
Noah's Ark : Everything I need to know, I learned from Noah's Ark.
ONE: Don't miss the boat.
TWO: Remember that we are all in the same boat!
THREE: Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark .
FOUR: Stay fit. When you're 90 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.
FIVE: Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.
SIX: Build your future on high ground.
SEVEN: For safety's sake, travel in pairs.
EIGHT: Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.
NINE: When you're stressed, float awhile.

@TRiG Reepicheep certainly has his own motivations - sailing into the utter East is his personal quest. Not sure about the Narnian politics in-text, as I think we are "meant" to accept Caspian's early explanation to the children that Everything Is Fine. Out of text, there is a lot of stuff here that doesn't make sense if you poke it. TBQH the entire lost-lords quest isn't well motivated.
In the book I think the quest is that they are basically curious about what happened to the lords. They aren't trying to bring them back to Narnia (they leave the first one, Bern, in place; they don't worry particularly about the dead ones; etc.) and there is no particular urgency.
The recent film changed that and I can't really argue with it from a story point of view.
Having read Lev Grossman's The Magicians and The Magician King, I now see different things in VotDT. In Grossman the characters are visibly concerned about finding the right adventure hooks, etc. - they are genre-savvy, occasionally correctly.
Indeed, Reepicheep here is correct to say they should go into the Dark Island because it is so obviously marked as the Next Adventure - and they do find a Lost Lord.
