@user12986714 Post has been deleted so I can't look more closely, but from what I saw you're probably right about that. However, I still don't think the website is eligible for the blacklist because it is mentioned in other legitimate posts, even if those posts might not exactly match the regex.

@NobodyNada There has been an effort to not match those posts, by anchoring the regex to the end of a post. According to MS record for this domain, there is a pattern of <some_naa> check out this post: <spam_link> for this website, and the regex is designed specifically for that.

12:11 AM
@user12986714 Although there may not be any posts today that match that regex, as far as I can tell there's nothing about that pattern that's inherently spammy besides the coincidence that all of the legitimate posts so far have put the link in the middle instead of at the end. It's entirely possible that someone could post a legitimate answer which e.g. quotes from a yallalabs article and leaves the link at the end as a source., or something like that.
IMO yallalabs is a great watch but not a good blacklist canidate.

I agree

@Makyen Only the domain; spammers are, from recent MS record, inventing new domains in such format
In this case, I won't consider double-detecting those blacklisted items is a problem; if they made it to the blacklist, they should be autoflagged anyways

@user12986714 you could use Dropbox or Google Drive to email it to me, or if you give me an SSH public key I can set up a server for you to SCP it to

@SmokeDetector This is a bit excessive. The user appears to be simply unaware what the purpose of Meta is, but it would be acceptable to block this network wide.

@user12986714 IMO that's not really what "a system-level block" means in the context of SmokeDetector

@NobodyNada looks like the user just don't know what meta is and was not getting an answer on SO

Nov 1 '18 at 3:45, by NobodyNada
@iBug I wouldn't say we want a system-level block on this post any more than we'd want a system-level block of general computing questions on SO. It wasn't posted in bad-faith; the user doesn't need the harsh consequences that come with a spam flag.
2
"System-level" == SpamRam, and while it would be nice to keep off-topic questions off of Meta, that's really not what spam-fighting tools are for
Nov 1 '18 at 3:47, by NobodyNada
There's a process for dealing with low-quality questions, and that's the close vote/flag system. There's a different process for dealing with spam/abusive posts; red-flags are what we're concerned about in Charcoal. If we blur the lines between spam and VLQ, we're 1) misusing spam flags as a chat room to delete non-spam content, and 2) ruining the quality and usefulness of our feedback.

@NobodyNada also pr 4038

@user12986714 I'm currently debating whether just google-services-api qualifies for the blacklist on its own. I have found no legitimate usages of the string with dashes but that's a generic enough expression that there are ~40 posts on SO that contain the string "Google Services API" with spaces

@NobodyNada Because there is such an API by Google

5:45 AM
I guess the safe thing to do would be to blacklist the pip command and the PyPI link while leaving google-services-api on the watchlist
@user12986714 AFAICT there isn't; people just talk generically about "google services" and sometimes they happen to be using an API to interact with those services
If there was such an API then google-services-api should definitely stay on the watchlist, since it's likely that the string with dashes could appear in an URL or something
!!/approve 4038
