The ISP servicing MetaSmoke and other services at my location is currently suffering network degradation. ISP contacted, tech being dispatched 2/12/2020. No ETA yet for resolution of degradation.
ISP (where MS is hosted) can confirm degradation at the network uplink, but is not aware of any outages in the area. ISP Service Technician scheduled to be on site Wednesday to diagnose, unless the issue doesn't resolve itself. More updates will be provided as they are available. Were settings on how SD posts messages in Tavern have been changed in some way? I thought that they were posted there if the post stayed up for some time (maybe around 15 minutes), looking at some recent messages, the interval seems be much shorter.
@ThomasWard I don't know what "a degraded uplink state" is, but it sounds a lot like "down" to me. In particular, that comment was motivated by the fact that on none of the SD reports so far have I been able to call up the corresponding MS page.
To be clear, I'm certainly not blaming you for "allowing" an outage or whatever to happen, so no need to explain that it's ISP related and that the tech is coming out at their earliest available date.
@SmokeDetector naa- I think "I found a clear way..." is intended as disclosure (i.e., as a statement that the post author found a way to do it and wrote a blog post about it, rather than as a statement that the post author found a blog post by someone else about it). So I think this is most likely NAA rather than actually spam. If the post were being kept I'd suggest an edit to make the disclosure more clear (but it's decisively NAA, and also has been deleted).
I just expected that we'd have a backup host in the case of outages, which are quite common with network equipment. I didn't think to consider "reasons". :-)

@tripleee Given that Comcast has dispatched a technician they're acknowledging that there may be an issue either on their equipment or the wiring hookups. They did have an outage on Monday at 1AM local (UTC-5) and shortly after that everything was disrupted at ~20% packet loss, though from Comcast to their modem they're seeing 30-40% consistently, so they've got techs looking at it
also MS is not necessarily down vs. degraded, if all else fails I'll 'hop' it over to my gig residential connection which hasn't gone down in eons and has had the same IP for over 11 months now, as 'failover'. I don't like doing that because it's not a static IP, but it would be able to act as a temporary patch.
since there's zero signal degradation on that pipe
