@Rubiksmoose It was brought up by someone else before, but this is the second (potentially third) autoflag FP we've had from your account in a short time. Could you increase the weight requirements a bit as a precautionary measure to begin with, and then we can nail down some better conditions later?

@ThomasWard Well, I blocked out a bunch of time to work on it over the weekend. Then I got a call from a relative of "I could use some help for a couple of minutes", which, of course, really meant "I'd like some help and it will only take you a day and a half." This evening is supposed to be blocked out to work on it. We'll see how it goes.

heh
@Makyen anything I can do to help? :P

@ThomasWard Thanks. Not really. Just normal stuff, but it takes quite a while sometimes.

cool cool

@ThomasWard BTW: my calendar reminded me that it's time to renew the Let's Encrypt certificate for MS. Has that gotten to the point where it's automatic?

You're right, !!/ is harder to type since you have to let go of the shift key to press the /.

hmm it LOOKS like there's a bug going on here with the ACME client

1:07 AM
On the rare-but-not-unheard-of occasion that I'm doing so on mobile, it is fewer keystrokes, but they're long-press keystrokes. Now, my long-press delay is set absurdly low, but it's still a bit slower...
Ugh you're both reminding me that I have to add SSL certs to the site that was responsible for my last "I could use some help for a couple of minutes" call from a relative that ended up taking hours :-p

... I may have to split it out but that's normal for me
hmm

what are ssl certs again?

On my partner's birthday, no less! But fortunately during a well-timed birthday nap :-p
...and most of the extra delay was my own fault. ...and Mercurial's for not tracking file permissions.

@10Rep Potentially bad keyword in body - Position 266-314: watch": "npm run development -- --watch","watch

that's gotta be the "sufficient number of 'watch','movies','stream','online', etc. keywords near each other" regex
@10Rep basically it's the thing that assures that when you're connecting to stackoverflow.com, it's actually the proper owner of the domain and not someone intercepting your network connection.

@RyanM So that it's not some SO knock off basically?

@10Rep Usually it'd be less a knock-off and more someone trying to steal your credentials. Imagine if your network connection to your bank were intercepted, for instance.
Stealing most Stack Exchange accounts is probably not terribly interesting, though there's some potential to use an account in good standing for spam purposes.
It'd certainly make spamming easier if you had one, at least :-p

1:20 AM
Ok, that makes a little more sense....
Maybe they thought they could promote their business, I guess.

Realistically most stolen Stack Exchange accounts are probably stolen via credential stuffing.

but i'm at least an hour out from ratelimits stopping

@ThomasWard OK. I think I just delayed that reminder... :;

np. When I set up the reminder I had it remind me 3 days in advance, 1 day, and on the day. So, if I'm not reminded tomorrow, I will be the next day. :;

@Makyen lol. TO BE FAIR I did the string tests previously, so I know the code works to do what it needs to do
but I don't know how to create mock posts for the things in the rules
also might be real hard because the edge cases are control chars :)
so unless you want to pass in binary strings... :P

Well, if we need to... :)

@Makyen well we might have to in some cases. at least, for control characters. Namely, anything that isn't printable gets caught in one of the cases.
github.com/Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector/blob/zero-length-link/… if it's whitespace or not printable it'll flag as a zero length link detection. if the length of the text in the anchor (a tags) is zerolength there's a catch for that as well. AND it handles obfuscation too, strips out all the tags and gets plain text in there. Assuming the raw_body is proper HTML

@ThomasWard 682/11/0 is better than good, it's great :-p better than most of our detections

oh, i'm sure our actual blacklists have more ;)
at least some of the oldest blacklists

metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/domains/new says "Create a spam domain" - should that also be used for non-spam domains?

2:03 AM
i'd leave that alone
unless you really know what you're doing :)

Are you talking about the domains tool or the watch?
If the domains tool: I do not, in fact, really know what I'm doing there, so I'm happy to leave that one alone :-)

the tool
watches are different

@RyanM It creates a domain record. All domains recorded on MS are "spam_domains", even if they are not actually spam.

@Makyen Any catches/tricks/gotchas or is it reasonable to add any domain that MS missed?

watch the domain instead.
my advice :P

2:06 AM
I'm not actually trying to watch it, it's not spam :-p

@Makyen you can forget about bugging me about certs
it's fixed
@RyanM then don't do anything

Concrete example: metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/post/268804 is missing 1and1.com, which is a reputable registrar

if it's not spam why should MS have it listed in there
@RyanM it's not missing - there's no URLs in there for a given domain (1and1)
also
"Potentially bad ns" isn't enough to trigger a URL/domain detect typically

I know. My thought with adding it would be to make reviewing easier since I typically look at the domains to see their history when reviewing, especially since that domain was the only reason that post was detected.

my original opinion is still don't mess with it unless you need to

2:10 AM
I'm fine with that, but my impression is that I'm unlikely to ever need to by that standard.

@Makyen might have better insights
(I usually leave MS stuff alone unless I really have to futz with it - root privs is useful but I tend to have a habit of breaking things. Thank you backups.)
@Undo can you confirm backups are still landing on your S3?

@RyanM In theory, you can create records for any domain which MS didn't automatically detect and create a record for. Such records are used to (imperfectly) group posts, so that we can see which posts contained the domain. The domain records can also have tags associated with them, which organizes them, and allows others to see what the domain is about.
Note: The domain records will always be imperfect (they could be better, but will never be perfect). Looking at them is a convenience, but shouldn't be considered the end-all be-all of determining which posts contain the domain.
There's also a very poorly named "whitelist" tag, which needs considerable work to really be appropriate. Currently, the "whitelist" tag should be renamed to reflect what it really is (renaming requires code changes in MS and SD, along with the data change), which is that it prevents a domain with that tag from being detected by "potentially bad ASN for hostname in {}" and "potentially problematic NS configuration in {}".
6
It's also inappropriately (and, I believe, ineffectively) used in "link at end of {}" and "bad keyword with a link in {}".
