We're currently parsing the output of git status to determine whether we're on a HEAD detached state.

So I asked this question and get some answers. We can probably drop parsing human-friendly output and use a program-friendly interface.

This is actually an easy job, so I'm not sure whether I do it myself or make it another hacktoberfest.

It's not that urgent, at least for an extended period of time we can rely on the current approach (check if git-status contains HEAD detached)

I heard that in some parts of United States, imperative clause is considered rude unless you're commanding people.
