@Makyen FYI Supernova went down because of a git conflict

Good to know. I'd already assumed that I should not try to have multiple things happen there at that point. Sorry to have caused you additional work.

!!/location
@Makyen this is why I have multiple instances

[ SmokeDetector ] SmokeDetector started in standby mode at rev fd940ee (ArtOfCode: Shhh.) (running on teward/Supernova)
@ThomasWard ArtOfCode/EC22

@Makyen yeah ideally it'd just have some type of lock mechanism but it's 'meh' on implementing that
it'd also fubar the ability to have things work proper :P
i am glad though that we have some resistance to MS downtime now though for black/watch listing

Yeah, that does help. Although were back to having some issue with watches.

12:22 AM
@Makyen that was a different issue, that was a dirty half-merged deploy branch fubaring things
i had to git reset --hard it
not sure why we're using Supernova instead of SOlar but
which reminds me, I have to kick Solar, back in a few

[ SmokeDetector ] SmokeDetector started in standby mode at rev fd940ee (ArtOfCode: Shhh.) (running on teward/Solar Flare)

rebootInstances.force() :P

I'd assumed it was a different issue. Are you saying the one I linked (i.e. which recently occurred) is resolved?
@ThomasWard That works. :-)

i'm confused, do you mean the git index problem?
you had to do !!/pull to force it back to deploy first.
if that fails then the tree is dirty and needs an orbital laser strike on it to clean it

@Makyen That pattern looks like it's already caught by Mostly non-latin body and Mostly non-latin answer; append -force if you really want to do that.

That one.

@Makyen error: not latest deploy is the problem you have

np. We were just slightly miscommunicating.

the latest commit has "Shhh." as the commit msg.
that errors' pretty damn self-explanatory too

I must admit, I though I had checked that.

"error: you need to resolve your current index first " error: you need to resolve your current index first " - ERROR: Unclean tree or not on latest upstream branch, needs pulled or resolved for force-reset and pulled.
'course I bet you a dollar Art's instance just screwed itself trying to pull. Probably need to have a git reset --hard in there somewhere, or a command to force it to do that.

Hmmm.... That's a different error in the error logs. The last one for the same action was OSError: [Errno 14] Bad address.

12:29 AM
well that one's because there was a DNS fubarism in there
my network was misbehaving
"Bad address" usually means something isn't resolving or there's a v6 address returned for a v4 only connection or vice versa

teward/Solar Flare received failover signal.

Ahh... I'd kind-of just left it alone after that error.

and yep, Art's instance went and died. Bring forth the Solar Flare!
unless it too just died

@SmokeDetector Has disclosure.

12:31 AM
y'know part of me wants to redo the TLD detection
because it's TLD checking things that don't actually exist as TLDs
but meh maybe I'm just OCD on it
@Makyen it's all good now though, I know Supernova has some odd transient issues
and Solar Flare died off because of a git tree problem
while I was in there I just kicked Lunar Eclipse "in case"

OK. Let me try it again. :-)

\o/
@ThomasWard That might be a good idea.

@Makyen the detection would be more... 'meh' than normal.
and would require on-load preconstruction of more regex, but...

Restart: API quota is 19968.

12:35 AM
it might work? I once wrote a TLD detection script that could sniff out TLDs that were actually TLDs and behaved the way they should by precompiling a list of known TLDs and regex searching suspected ones; if there was no detection it continues on otherwise it does something
it'd increase complexity a little though
(I mean, I try and comment everything 'odd' that my code does but...)

and there's the Solar Flare speediness I have grown to love with Smokey :P

If it improves detections, without significantly decreasing performance while scanning, then it sounds like it would be a good thing. Requiring additional work upon script startup isn't, IMO, a significant issue. OTOH, we do reboot fairly often, so if it's adding 10s+ to the startup time, then we'd probably notice and be a bit frustrated.

@Makyen it'd be something like an extra second.

That's along the lines of what I'd expect, and not something I think would be an issue.

12:44 AM
i mean it was like an extra 2 seconds to download the TLD list on my local computer, but that's not a huge it

Do you need to download the TLD list upon every reboot? It's not something that changes all that often.

TLD is fubar that it does that

it's especially prevalent when we go through SO posts

@Undo Gone

Why would I scan something if I wasn't going to report it?

@Catija It saves you a command when the scan fails to catch it

3:50 AM
@Catija Probably wouldn't, the previous difference was mostly for us testing stuff.

Well... maybe someone should fix the answers to my Charcoal question?
:P

Documentation is hard.

@Catija Some people do so just to "test if the post is spam", for their own knowledge. For the one person that's mentioned that use to me, I explained that SD isn't 100% correct, and that they should make their own determination.

@Undo How do I get it?

3:58 AM
yeah, that's the question

@iBug Yeah, I got too locally focused for a moment.

metasmoke doesn't have an easy "these reasons (plural) on these sites (plural)" search
I'm fine with lowering/dropping it on math sites.

I mean, is there any current reason that filters punctuations on posts?
The "mostly punctuation" test has only caught a single post so far

@SmokeDetector Haha, single brackets no longer break chat

4:02 AM
@iBug Just mostly-dots, I suppose. That wouldn't cause issues on Math.

@geisterfurz007 I flagged it as spam initially but after I saw that user had another valid looking post I retracted my flag and instead down voted and delete voted. Editing wouldn't have salvaged that answer IMO
It has all the smells of spam for a jobboard

@geisterfurz007 (^ninja'd) It might have been a (bad) actual attempt to answer. However, the portion that did render made it look like spam from a job site, which might have just been the emails which they selected to use as their example. However, they could have done a much better job explaining what they were doing, rather than having two sentences and dumping a bunch of badly formatted HTML. Without the HTML which you removed, it's really not an answer.

I agree that it was a bad answer! I was just curious what led to the many tp (for spam, if I understand correctly). And I didn't remove the HTML but just Ctrl+K the block. Unfortunately there were no linebreaks and I didn't think of using a webtool for formatting it.

Yes, I mis-typed, you put it in code format. However, even if you put it in code format, apply indenting/formatting, supply the containing <table> and then render it, it doesn't look like something helpful (OTOH, the concept of looking at already existing solutions, is a typical way of proceeding). However, you're right, we probably were a bit fast on the draw on that one, but due to the choice of emails, it was, in fact, spam. If you copy spam, it's still spam.
