@SmokeDetector Actually, this had disclosure, but was the user's 3rd post promoting their site with minimal content answers.
@SmokeDetector Prior to deletion, the user did edit in disclosure. However, IMO, the reason for this answer's existence was the promotion of their site. While it did answer the actual question asked, it required you to click to their site to get the reasoning behind why they were answering that way.
@SmokeDetector Prior to deletion, the user did edit in disclosure. However, IMO, the reason for this answer's existence was the promotion of their site. While it did include an attempt at answering the question, it was very poor. It primarily was there so they could hang a link to a tangentially related page on their site.

Any btw, I should mention VBScript RegEx 5.5 doesn't support lookarounds

@tripleee Looks good - thanks!

fixing up indentation still

By the way, is anyone around who successfully completed Hacktoberfest and has recieved the shirt order emails etc?

@K.Dᴀᴠɪs I probably would have used a somewhat different way to determine the beginning of a cell reference (probably something like (?:\b|$), which might be too broad), but I'd have to check various different possibilities. What you have will probably get you there. However, at a minimum, it also needs to include ! (e.g. in sheet1!$A$1). I'm still trying to think if there are other delimiters that need to be accounted for, but that's the only one I'm coming up with, at the moment.
For what you have, using a character set, as already suggested/changed, is better.

I'm having trouble getting the email, and I'm not sure if my email provider is somehow shadow-blocking it

6:08 AM
If someone could give me a list of all the email addresses which were used for Hacktoberfest communications (so that I can add them to my safe senders list), I'd be really appreciative

@K.Dᴀᴠɪs I'd also suggest limiting your column references to a much shorter pattern than [A-Z]+. I'd use [A-Z]{1,3}, as 3 characters is the most that's permitted there (16,384 columns max). Doing so should cut down on false matches.

6:15 AM
fp- by Tetsuya Yamamoto

@Makyen Certainly makes sense. I can edit or you can to show your contributions.

You could do the same for rows, but it would be \d{1,7}, but that's a long enough sequence of digits that you won't prevent all that many false matches.
Are you wanting to account for references that are to complete columns (e.g. A, or a range like A:C)?

@Makyen I didn't even consider that - and that would also mean complete rows 1:4.

Yep.

OTOH, it's not clear if the OP was thinking about column/row references when they were writing their question, because it repeatedly states cell references, without wording that would imply they want column and row references.

@angussidney I don't think starring will do that, does it?

It does... if you know where to look. I need to update that autocomment.

@tripleee You recently added pof to the blacklist. It's at 6 TP 2 FP, but shows at least 305 hits on SE. I don't think that pof, by itself, will come close to maintaining the level of %TP which we expect from a blacklist.

I guess you're right

Maybe something like \W*/pof/\W*? That narrows it to what I think you were trying to get.

it was the triplet spammer's different URL tails IIRC

OK, Smokey somehow missed a post on AD. Not really important.

@tripleee Yeah, from the hits in MS that appeared what you intended. There are 4 hits that are slightly to significantly older, which looked like they just happened to match. Using a regex that includes the beginning and terminating / that are in that path would come closer to limiting it to what you're trying to detect. Given the bookending \b, you'll need to also have \W* before and after to get to a \b, so \W*/pof/\W*.

on the other hand, as long as they are posting triplets, it's enough if we have blacklisted at least one of the targets

Gonna put this here again, What is BrokenPipeError?

@WELZ the real question is, where does it come from?! ;-)

the broken pipes are almost certainly from git because there are no pipes between other parts as far as I can tell; but the precise failure mode requires additional debugging and probably an educated guess about where to add diagnostic logging
