@angussidney Probably helps that i was trying to run Smokey in a debugger and it could have died off and never been caught by me, with a functional failover system that 'issue' of smokey dying for a few hours is handled in minutes
you're right that it's cool that within a week or so we have fully-functioning failover
the only bad thing is no autopull so we have to !!/pull if it's been a while since a failover's last git pull
but there's sanity to why we don't have this

@ThomasWard you mean no autopull on the standby instances? [status-bydesign]

yes, that's what i was talking about hence the "there's sanity to why we don't have this" part

Is there any reason why we shouldn't shorten the sitename at the end of each report, whether or not the message is too long? cc @art @Undo (github.com/Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector/issues/488)
Just a simple regex sub to change stackexchange.com to SE

@angussidney Nope. Should check the message parsers, but yeah.

I forgot how much we rely on the message parsers. Urgh they are fragile

aye

2:35 AM
oops.

A thought: we could reduce that reliance by having a message-type indicator in each message, i.e. start with something like [ SmokeDetector | MS ] [R] for reports. Then we just check for the type indicator instead of trying to parse the entire message.

fun fact i figured out how to make a debugger always attach to the process lol.
so now I can always grab snapshots if things blow up heh
if I launch on Daedalus of course :P

For those of you who prefer the old github header, I found this useful stylish CSS plugin: userstyles.org/styles/138787/go-back-to-white-header

@ThomasWard I reckon it would be good..... if they updated the rest of the design at the same time

ATM it looks a little jarring
@ArtOfCode maybe we could abuse some invisible links or something?

@angussidney can't do that in chat, I don't think

Also, I'm flagging your message as undisclosed promotion of your blog :P

I'm trying to understand some regex on this line. What does the (?: \(@.+\))? do?
I know the bit before it is for the site, and the bit after it is for the old ... link for MS, what what about the bit in between?

J F
2:55 AM
@angussidney It matches (@somebody), but doesn’t capture the match (i.e. add it to the list)

@angussidney Optional non-capturing group: match a space, followed by open-bracket, an @, any character one or more times, and a close bracket

Ah, of course. I was wondering what the hell the @ sign had to do with anything

Kinda sorta equivalent to (\s\(@.+\))?, except the match isn't captured.

Yeah, I understand the regex, just not what it was meant to catch

J F
RegExr is something I find useful for these kinds of tasks. (no affiliation)

@Undo For the AIM userscript, should I call the API for each post to get the feedback, or is there a way to batch them?

tpu- by DavidPostill

@JF currently no way of batching them, but it might be possible to build that. For now, call it for each post
(FYI, I tend to know more about API things than Undo, purely by virtue of being its designer)

@JF We should probably build that. In the meantime, just put a few tenths of a second between requests and it'll be fine
@JF What level of information are you looking for? Would a count like tp: 2 be enough, or are you wanting users?

3:33 PM
@Undo we already have a count - I think (correct me if I'm wrong, @JF) JF wanted a list of all possible feedbacks, rather than what's already on the post

J F
@ArtOfCode I didn’t know that. I’ll ping you in the future.

I just realized that since Blaze is a static site, it can be hosted at charcoal-se.org/Blaze if GH Pages is turned on in its settings.

huh, I guess it can
let's see if that works

J F
(if you want it to be charcoal-se.org/blaze, you’ll either need to redirect or rename the repo)

That would... appear to work. Only with a trailing slash, though
and we get free HTTPS because Cloudflare

J F
@ArtOfCode It always seems to take a few minutes to set up the redirect. charcoal-se.org/Blaze works now.

so it does
which also means @Undo can save a server

4:14 PM
It's just a static site in nginx, no load at all
could probably give you a redirect, though

I figure it's no bad thing to make GitHub do our work for us

cheers @JF :)

I don't like the capitalization there, but maybe ^ works

@Undo probably not, it's not a Jekyll site

J F
4:17 PM
If you rename Charcoal-SE/Blaze to Charcoal-SE/blaze, the capitalization will be fixed.

@JF but that's a little ugly
It'd be nice to not have to un-capitalize everything just to make Pages work
(afk)

I’ll make a PR in a few minutes to fix it.
