Eh probably but really I'm not sure we need more people wanting privileges. We're about saturated as it is.

Probably would be worth tightening what we require

it seems easier to let Smokey tell users why they're not good enough, rather than humans ;-)

We don't actually detect self vandalism. We detect poor rage quits that happen to be vandalism because they replace everything with a few characters. If someone quit with a polite, legitimate, message, there is no reason Smokey would pick it up.

Vandalism is a bonus if we pick it up, rather than a target.

Hi @AshishAhujaツ

Oh dear... @Undo I'm stuck. I keep getting 422 errors from MS. Logging out and back in should fix that, but I can't log out because of another 422.

@ArtOfCode yeah, I know
Trying to deploy websockets
It's... not easy

1:56 PM
ah
In that case, can you register an API key for me? SHA256 hash the current time or something, app_name can just be ArtOfCode/FDSC

@ArtOfCode should be stable for a few minutes, let me know when you're done

422 still

It's the weirdest thing, pretty sure I'm fighting some weird caching somewhere
... eh?
Clear your cache, it's up

yeah, the site's up

oh, you've got auth token issues

2:00 PM
yeah
Any page that verifies the token is giving me a 422

... huh
yeah, it's generating bad auth tokens. Just a sec
Presumably because Standalone doesn't know what domain it's on

!!/pull

Restart: API quota is 4708.

2:22 PM
@Undo you've got another ms commit from me, which can just get bundled with the next deploy you do

@ArtOfCode Pretty sure that one made it in a few deploys ago ;)

oh :)
Likely, since I've been babysitting GD chat for a while

uh... yeah, this is some weird CSRF thing, not caused by websockets.
Don't really want to disable protection on that

Eh? I didn't disable protection for anything... just changed a redirect.

Not saying you wanted to
Just saying that it'd be a solution, but a bad one
any, got a key for you. @ArtOfCode email okay?

2:28 PM
@Undo yeah, or chat. It's only an API key, and I can always get rid of it :)

sent

the message, that is, not the key
cool
Ack, that didn't fix it. Okay, any idea how to fix a Mixed Content error? /posts/by_url does a redirect_to url_for..., but that redirects to HTTP, which causes AJAX requests to drop due to the mixed protocols.
Works fine in browsers because they just upgrade the connnection, but AJAX doesn't like it.
I guess I could just do it the proper way and add an API route.

no, won't work
That sounds like another issue with Standalone not knowing what it is
@ArtOfCode actually, just redirect to path_for
you don't need a full URL

@Undo Should do, because I can do it without redirects. It's the redirect that's the issue.
@Undo we had it on a path redirect before, same thing

yeah, then it's my fault

2:37 PM
Right-o. An API for it probably isn't a bad idea anyway, since that particular route doesn't JSON.

Wouldn't be hard to just make a /by-url.json and render it slightly different

Could do, though you're basically just adding an API at that point

Without as much code duplication, though
Which is negligible, but meh

@art (or Undo) Could you make an metasmoke api for me?

@Ferrybig key, or route?

2:42 PM
@ArtOfCode Key

@Undo ^ yours

how urgent?

Low priority, wanting to test some things with it this evening (in 5 hours)

k

"when Undo has finished pulling his hair out", then :)

2:43 PM
yeah that :P

@Ferrybig buzz Wrong answer. We were looking for "We needed it yesterday, but I got to busy and forgot to ask. Better luck next time."

@Andy haha

metasmoke is running in http-only mode temporarily; your browser might yell at you for it. Clear your cache.
(and note that https WILL NOT redirect to http right now, you have to do that manually)
also, we'll lose Smokey reports because Smokey is clueless around http(s) stuff

That means that art's smokey hotbar script will break again

probably
it does make CSRF work again, though

2:51 PM
@Undo I think that depends on if your "metasmoke_host" contains http or https on the server where you run him

yeah

Sadly, it's set to https now

shrug
so we lose an hour or two of data
@ArtOfCode Good for deploy on that?

2 hours? Smokey is only 5 minutes offline according to metasmoke status? Or is there a planned downtime?

Should be, I did a dumb

2:56 PM
@Undo I'm so confused, why is this necessary?

@hichris123 Because I broke metasmoke last night
There's something weird with how it's rendering CSRF tokens

Why not just leave it be though?

Oh, websockets
also, this is a Better Way. Apache + Passenger isn't exactly the most supported thing on the planet

Oh, I see.

@Undo sorry, I'm still dumb. Another deploy waiting.

3:03 PM
hah
k

I forgot route prioritization was a thing
@Undo is ms meant to be 403?

yeah

cool

I think I found the problem; proxying from https to http is making Passenger think it's an http request; thus serving bad cookies

That wouldn't help, no

3:15 PM
Trying to decide whether to let Apache handle SSL or Passenger

Apache's probably more secure

mehhhh
passenger is a big open source thing, not too concerned about that

But if you decide for Nginx, you don't have the 1 thread per connection problem, and can handle multiple requests better

Looks like Passenger just uses OpenSSL, which I tend to trust

@Undo oh, that works then

3:19 PM
*** ERROR: invalid option: --sl-certificate
well that's a good omen

What's SL? Did they design a new security protocol or something? :)

4:04 PM
The problem with writing userscripts for spam posts... is that I now have to find one before it's deleted so I can test.
And in 100 lines of code, there will be a bug

Ask us to review the script, maybe we will see some obvious things you missed

Hang on... I should be able to forge it, actually. @Undo would you mind terribly if I put a legit post into metasmoke so that I can test this thing?

@ArtOfCode Does "*.stackoverflow.com" match just stackoverflow.com? In the other user script I use, they use different patterns

should do, yeah
Oh, carp. I have messed up the patterns, though.
updated

It looks like fdsc.storeFkey is nowhere used in the script, do you expect us to call that method the first time? Neither can I find fdsc.chat_fkey in the script

4:19 PM
Yeah, I haven't called the former because I haven't got to needing it yet
will only need that for posting to chat

@ArtOfCode sure, we can always just destroy it

400 Bad Request. I didn't even know Rails gave those out.

@ArtOfCode Where?
I'm deploying stuff a lot, might have just gotten in the middle of one of those

@Undo attempting to insert a post into MS via console requests

oh, you're gonna need a valid Smokey key
Which you probably don't have :P

I've got one.

oh

4:45 PM
You gave both me and hichris a key about a month ago

oh right

so yeah, past the 403, but now I've got 400's instead

I think it gives out 400s when the parameters it expects isn't there

@ArtOfCode I hope that key wasn't the one you now publicly posted in the gist you linked a little back up in the chat

@Ferrybig nah, that's an API key
the Smokey key is still hidden away
@Undo Gotcha. I'm still dumb.
yep, in there
Okey doke, now I can debug the script.

4:52 PM
> Error during WebSocket handshake: Unexpected response code: 200
say what?

Oh, damn. @Undo the API routes need to be exempted from CORS somehow
Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *

Figured you'd run into that eventually
yeah, will look at it in a few minutes

Cool :)
