it is perhaps also worth noting that one spammer seems to have been reusing the same image URL, so blacklisting that would achieve the same success rate with much less effort
though you should perhaps look at the age of the spam, too -- if it's all more than a month old, probably that's not worth the effort, either
the search currently goes some 7 months back for 100 results
out of a total of 180 results for this search
more than one image is reused, there is one URL with 3 hits and 13 with 2
some could differ only in the http vs https part, I didn't normalize for that and I see both
... no, that doesn't change anything

Hi there, i've been invited here by @tripleee following up this problem we have on Magento SE: meta.magento.stackexchange.com/q/1068/2380

@RaphaelatDigitalPianism hey, thanks for showing up

basically, we're seeing more and more users with 1 reputation spamming the website
@tripleee thank you for inviting me

@BrockAdams Done

you were alluding to some search results but they were not very focused, could you point out a few hits which we should examine in more detail?

12:53 PM
Sure here are some examples
they have been deleted by our moderator so I hope you can see them

nope, I only see the questions

we are regular users, I have enough rep on Stack Overflow to see deleted posts but not on other sites

Screenshots?

maybe I can post the content of the post ?

12:54 PM
content works too

yeah, maybe put it in a gist or pastebin?
for comparison, maybe have a look at how Metasmoke sees some recent spam
so for example metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/post/45420 from a few minutes back

thanks

the metasmoke link also incidentally shows you what some of our rules look like
if that's uniformly mag-manager.com, all we need here is to blacklist that web site

12:56 PM
well that website is legit
that's the problem
but someone (dunno if it's them)
is trying to promote the website by spamming Magento SE
so here you have three pastebins
basically, the similarilites are the link to this website
the fact that they come from 1 rep users
(only created in this purpose according to what I saw)

blacklisting the website here means that Smoke Detector will alert whenever there is a URL to that website

and the content does not look like it's being generated by a bot
oh yeah good thing =)

and we take manual action to review the potentially offending post

yeah that'd be a nice start

you can have the alerts shown in another chat room if you would like for your own team to review them

^ like that

well i'm a very active user but I'm not a moderator
yeah good
maybe create a chat room just for that

I guess that's a false positive actually

Smokey reports are suggestions that a post may be fishy

yeah that'd be nice

12:59 PM
!!/blacklist mag-manager\.com

We want the suggestions to be as accurate as possible, but there's still a human pair of eyes going over each of them.

@tripleee You don't have code privileges, but I've created a pull request for you.

!!/test-a mag-manager

> Would not be caught as an answer.

we can retract the rule if it starts to generate false positives

1:00 PM
sweet

and/or make it specific to users with minimum rep

yeah exactly
because I've checked using Data SE
and there is some legit posts on Magento SE
linking to mag-manager.com
which are totally legit

Hey @art

if you'd like for Magento alerts to be shown in another chat room, that's a similarly quick configuration change
they'll still be shown here as well

@SmokeDetector Don't merge this yet. I think we want the rep check on this one

1:01 PM
ok so I have to be in this charcoal room all the time ?
or can it be another room I specify ?

you can request for reports concerning the Magento site to also be sent to another chat room if you like, it takes a small configuration change by one of the admins here to implement it

yeah that'd be great

just let us know which room
and for the record I'm not one of the admins, just an enthusiastic user

I'm like you just an active user on Magento SE ^^

You're welcome to stay here as well, though.

1:05 PM
=)
here's the room I created for it: chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/47869/…
let me know if you need anything else from me
as well as when can I expect the new smokedetector reports to arrive

Normally this room serves as the dumpyard of SD's reports.

@RaphaelatDigitalPianism, right now, if we blacklisted that domain, you'd get reports for any user with less than 50 rep that posted it. Is that rep limit to high?

Not that I mind a second one (with this room becoming the chat chat room), but there has to be talking forbidden if the new room is going to be any use

yep rep limit too high
1 reputation users are the one causing problems

Ok

1:15 PM
@JanDvorak does that mean I need to turn off talking on the room I created ,
?
make it a gallery chat room ?

If you do, let me know. But I believe the locals here might want to express their opinions first.
