The bot only really crashes when someone makes a significant change to the code. Or, when SE suddenly makes massive changes to its websocket system (like they did yesterday). What was happening above was hichris was pulling changes to the code from GitHub; it wasn't crashing

Q: Dealing with a troll that's flooding the site with plagiarized answers

bwDracoOver the last several days, we've been seeing a novel trolling attack on Super User: a flood of answers containing plagiarized content posted by a user called "Marlin Woods": The user creates a new account for every post; however, the same Gravatar appears on each post so it's apparent that it...

6:47 AM
Oh

@SmokeDetector because this post wasn't detected automatically:
!!/blacklist expresspharma

@Glorfindel You don't have code privileges, but I've created a pull request for you.

Also, in the rare birds category: a spam question protected by Community: i.sstatic.net/lUwp1.png

@Glorfindel you're not getting the point of the blacklist command: you use it for websites, not keywords

6:52 AM
@angussidney oh, but I see a lot of dotless words here: github.com/Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector/blob/master/…
So I'm not the only one not getting the point :)
Or should I do that only in cases where multiple instances of the same website turn up?

Looks like some earlier blacklists, when our current system wasn't in place (in that file, newest websites at the bottom and oldest at the top)
@Glorfindel Only when multiple times, see this: github.com/Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector/wiki/…

@Glorfindel start specific and tweak to generalize if it misses some, rather than risk false positives with a too broad blacklist entry
that one as such seems unlikely to accidentally match anything non-spam, though

@tripleee yeah, that's why I chose to be generic. I have already blacklisted before.

@ArtOfCode If we are considering removing some of the feedback that is posted in chat, then yes, MS needs some analytics built in. If not, I don't know if it actually gets us anything thing other than the ability to satisfy curiosity.
Regarding that first part of that: My hypothesis is that a large majority of reported posts are not looked at in MetaSmoke. Instead, the post is reported and dealt with and then forgotten. Posts that are looked at in MetaSmoke are the ones that are discussed.
