I have noticed and am frustrated by this problem.

FGITW is a two-sided sword. The flip side is that nobody cares about a question nobody shot at.

I'm mixing my analogies. Shh. But once a question moves off the top few, it's not really seen anymore.

It's probably a consequence of the fact that most answers on Stack Overflow aren't interesting enough for people to want to casually read them.

I see questions on the front page of C# that are answered, and I care about 0 of the answers. Why would I open an answered question to read it?

I've decided to learn it. It's a useful language to know, and I'm thinking it might become a primary language for me.

But even in languages I know.

@AnnonomusPenguin Well, take a look at the front page of a tag that interests you. Read 15 questions. How many of them were actually interesting?

I think that is the real problem on Stack Overflow. Most of the questions a programmer asks while doing their job just aren't interesting. Most of the ones that are interesting are too broad for us to helpfully answer.

For instance, "Why did this build fail?" or "Why did that change break my test code?" are totally valid questions that many people just can't answer sometimes, so they go to Stack Overflow. But once they're answered, a great body of people just don't care anymore.

It's not that they're there for rep, it's just that the questions are genuinely uninteresting.
