3:36 AM
@Undo iOS tasks are hard to come by, it seems.
@Undo I had subscribed to it (and a few others) when I saw it thinking I would claim it when I had more time. But you of all people beat me to it. :)

4:36 AM
@SantaClaus lol, what are the chances? :)
Doing work for OpenMRS?

@Undo Maybe later. I'm doing some basic stuff for wikimedia right now (One "beginner" task I'm eying involves changing a configuration string. Very exciting.) and then I'll probably do more involved stuff for them once I get my feet wet.

@SmokeDetector uh no :P

[mildly-interesting] Apparently you can view completed tasks and the usernames of the users who completed them for Google Code-In on the per-organization pages. And in following some breadcrumbs of a user who completed quite a few tasks for wikimedia, I found someone with the email address of the guy that founded inputs.io (the same one who lost $1M in bitcoins to hackers)

4:41 AM
@Undo OH MY GOODNESS WHAT HAVE I BEEN MISSING

ematirov.tk/org/openmrs is better on the rare occasion that it loads.

@Undo Eh, something better than nothing.
So, I find it odd that the guy who founded inputs.io (before they were hacked) would be doing google code-in.

neat
Probably wants a free trip :P

@Undo That means he's younger than 17, whereas he claimed to be "just over 18" in news interviews about that hack.

You sure it's the same guy?

4:47 AM
@Undo The user is unicodesnowman (top wikimedia contributor), and you can get his email through any of his wikimedia gerrit reviews.
@Undo A quick google of the email traces to bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=328053.0

Huh, I've interacted with him

@Undo How so?

on OpenMRS IRC

@Undo Well, in other news, the OpenMRS IRC logging is broken wiki.openmrs.org/display/IRC/2014+-+OpenMRS

yeah, it's been that way for months
I have my own log set up

4:53 AM
@Undo You just have a solution for all my problems, don't you...

yup :P
In related news, github.com/Undo1/OpenMRS-iOS/network is starting to look cool :D

sees unicodesnowman in IRC

lol, having fun choosing a username @SantaClaus?

@Undo Definitely.
ignores the fact that everybody has my IP now and can tell I'm not on the north pole

@SantaClaus Happen to be running an nginx server? That was successfully installed?

5:06 AM
@Undo Nope. Definitely not.

@SantaClaus how about a beta tester site with a login page?

fears the moment you run reverse DNS
shit

lol
You must not have a very good firewall :P
Not gonna poke any further :)

thinks about what you could poke into
shit

your smtp port is open too, I might be able to have some fun with that

5:07 AM
Oh yeah, I know that.
shit

anyway, go get a firewall :)

Hey, I have a firewall. There is just...a lot open...

Do you really need 80 and 443 open?
Most ISPs won't even let you do that.

The SMTP server actually doesn't receive mail, so you can only DDOS me.

too much trouble :P
I'm a lazy hacker

5:08 AM
@Undo What do you mean? I am running a web server for personal and other purposes.

@SantaClaus Need it outside of your local network?

@Undo Uh, yeah.

ah okay.
I promise not to poke anything :D

I don't have a beta app distribution thing just for myself.

goes back to merging branches

5:10 AM
@Undo I have learned not to ask questions and just go with it.

yup :D

is suddenly thankful that the IRC logs aren't working

rofl

@Undo What? Did you find that one thing on my server?
jk, jk.

Nope, because I quit poking it.

5:14 AM
Suddenly realizes that I can check my access logs to get _your ip.

But... might wanna make it serve a failed connection or something to non-approved IPs
@SantaClaus Go for it.
See if you can get in my network
(hint: you probably can't)

@Undo I mean I could probably manage to put a geographic restriction on it, but I don't have a static list of whitelisted IPs.

meh, not really worth it probably

@Undo The root cause of my insecurity is that I'm running services from inside my home network.

Which is a bad idea
(sorry I just had to)
awww, Xcode choked on a merge

5:18 AM
@Undo Of course it is. Which is why I'll probably get a AWS instance soon.

You might try putting the service machine (I assume closet server) directly connected to the DSL-or-whatever-you-have modem, and running your actual home network on another router with its own firewall.

@Undo Hmm, thats interesting.

that's what I do, my closet server is in front of my home network. Even though nothing can get through my first firewall

@Undo Or I could just get a AWS instance. I can do that sitting down.

5:23 AM
Ah, yep that's a variable that needs to be taken into account

`if (do_I_have_to_get_up) {
staySittingDown();
}`

Fixed font doesn't ever work in replies IIRC
except the `` variety
... which doesn't work over multiple lines

@Undo shuts down computer

@Undo I found his bitcointalk account (See his 'trust' page). Its kinda hard to believe that someone like that would suddenly start contributing to GCI and open source projects.

Hmm. Is that not right?

@AndrewLeach I think you're in the wrong room...

Gah. Thanks. I'll try again. Too many blue rooms.
With too many similar favicons.

2 hours later…
4:14 PM
@Undo we're starting to get phone number reports in the AU room. Did something change?

4:46 PM
@Seth Were you only supposed to get bad keyword?
@Seth AU is only excluded from all caps.
(phone number == baba, sometimes)

@hichris123 oh, hmm.
yeah I don't think we want phone numbers.
We'll see I guess.

@Seth It's easy to change, let us know if we should block it.

yeah I know
I guess we've only had maybe 4, so not a big deal.

@Seth you shouldn't get those anymore.

oh, I was going to let it sit for a while, but that's cool @Undo. Pretty sure those are useless for us.

:)
I really should start reading transcripts.

no worries, it's fine :)

9:08 PM
I'm getting a crash course in Git merging :P

9:28 PM
That's always fun :P

Actually, I'm kinda enjoying it.
But only because it's my code so I understand what it all does
I broke my work on this up into a bunch of branches, now I'm merging them together to submit it.

Oh that's not quite so bad.

10:03 PM
@Seth What if baba comes back?

10:23 PM
@hichris123 then he should get caught by something else.
how many baba's get caught by just phone number?

sounds like the keywords need some tweaking.

... and more.

what is charcoal eactly?

10:28 PM
I'll get @hichris123 answer that ;)

@SabreTooth Charcoal is a comment flagging app, which isn't allowed to be used anymore. (we had some issues with comment-flag flooding of mods, making the SE team unhappy with such webapps). That created the "Charcoal team", which develops things for Stack Exchange like SmokeDetector to detect spammy posts.

ah, I see!
sounds like very useful tools to have
