My gosh I like owning a lathe. Had a wobbly toilet seat, one of the plastic nuts holding it down was stripped. So I used a tap and die to confirm the thread (M8 1.25) and planned on buying one later.
Then realised "I have a tap and a lathe - just make one" So I did.
Don't own a mill or have good hold-downs on the lathe, so the finished nut was more of a round with a couple of pinholes in it for leverage. But its underneath the porcelain and noone can see it :) I call that a win.
