Ground Fault. An unintentional, electrically conducting connection between an ungrounded conductor of an electrical circuit and the normally non–current-carrying conductors, metallic enclosures, metallic raceways, metallic equipment, or earth.
So if you intentionally connect the ungrounded conductor to the normally non-current-carrying conductors, it's not a ground fault.

@Tester101 Of course it's not a ground's fault, it's the device's fault, the device shouldn't be doing that and should be corrected with a persuasive hammer tap.

i kinda get the impression the machine rental is included in 1 bag's price?

Are mod elections to replace a current mod or is it to add an additional one?
15 hours ago, by BMitch
For those that don't know, Vebjorn Ljosa is stepping down. He hasn't been active in a while and felt that it would be better for someone else to take his place.
Yeah. There appears to be a $10/bag premium
13:05
@ChrisCudmore the main wall of the staircase is by far the coldest wall in the house - thinking about drilling a hole in each cavity and blowing insulation in
but knowing this house, i'm either gonna end up wasting the loose fill or end up gutting the wall; neither outcome is desirable
Is Blown Cellulose appropriate for vertical applications?
i've seen it used on TV - better then nothing at all is my opinion
Frankly, cost aside, once I have several patches, I'd rather just re-drywall. Same amount of taping.
I think blown cellulose will compact under its own weight in the cavity.
So you'll end up with a half insulated wall.
13:08
I wonder if a spray foam company could do it through a hole.
@Tester101 That's what I was thinking.
thats a lot of spray foam, no ?
Not cans.
You'd hire someone to do it. They might have a special nozzle for this purpose
I don't think spray foam would work through a hole, unless they have a flexible tube or something that can actually go inside the cavity.
@Tester101 thats exactly what their using
that video looks exactly like what i've seen in these walls as i've demo'd them - blocks of white, solid foam
I'd let a pro handle that. I could just see the wall exploding, because there's too much foam in it.
13:14
i'd drill another hole beside the hole for the tube and put a borascope in there to watch the foam expand
13:44
@ChrisCudmore My family did that in an older home, plaster walls and wallpaper. They just cut small patches of the wall paper, drilled a 1-2" hole, and blew it in. You need to check for fire blocking, and realize that it will settle over time, so it's imperfect, but better than nothing.
@lsiunsuex And then post it on Youtube. It'll be more entertaining than half the crap on there.
@BMitch I wonder if putting a nozzle near the bottom of the cavity and occasionally hooking the vacuum up to it on blow would re-distribute it.
@ChrisCudmore it's not so much that there's a cavity that you can blow out, it just compacts over time. In the attic, you go from 12" to 8" over the years, thinner, but still evenly distributed. In a vertical wall, as it compresses, you end up with an uninsulated portion at the top of the wall.
with blowing it in - i'm kinda thinking the blown in will cling to the lath and keep itself up on its own. also all the nails coming into the cavity from the outside from the shingles will grip it as well

so if my kitchen sink is draining slowly, and I've augered and haven't found anything, what do you think are the odds of leaves falling on the vent in the roof and clogging the vent?
15:49
@Aaron I don't know how likely it is, but it's fairly easy to check if you have an appropriate ladder.
16:01
@Aaron is the sink drain connected to a garbage disposal ?
whenever ours drains slowly, its because food has backed up into the disposal - running the disposal for a minute usually clears it
16:22
i hope they bring back Elvis!

some comments just strike me as "selling a product" comments.
17:08
There is a disposal, but how do I find out if that's the holdup?
i.e, how do I bypass it?
can I just disconnect it from the flange and look into it?
because when I put water in the sink the whole thing ends up filling up, and then when I pull the p-trap there is a bunch of water in there
17:44
@Aaron Pull the P-trap, put a bucket under the disposal (maybe some plastic or a tube into the bucket to avoid any mess) and run water down the sink drain, see if it goes any faster.
If you don't hear a bunch of gurgling in the drain after the water flows out, chance are it's a partial blockage and not a stopped vent.

Q: Nicely mounting 2x4s to wall

espaisI would like to make some bookshelves similar to what is seen here: My question is how to nicely mount these to the wall. Obviously I could simply angle some screws into the wall studs, however I think that'd look a bit messy and would like to hide the mounting method.

It made the hot questions list.

Vote for me! Vote for me!
So glad to see a bunch of people putting their names in the hat. When these elections first start, I always worry that no one will run. Then again, I took a few days to put my own name in the hat.
If I'm elected, I will be hosting a free brick oven pizza party at my house for all my supporters!
beat that, @ChrisCudmore
To be honest, I'm not going to be upset if I don't win. A week's worth of solid question answering, I'll be at 10k

sooooo..... when amazon says 2 day shipping; and the product was ordered on sunday, and shipped on monday, that doesn't mean it'll be delivered on tuesday? wednesday makes it 3 days, no ?
Man I augered the crap (well, not really, it's a kitchen sink, not a toilet) out of that thing, and it's still draining slow
I wonder how to clamp off the dishwasher hose so I can get some good vacuum action on the sink plunger
Time to bring out the heavy chemicals.
@lsiunsuex no, wednesday is 2 days, shipped monday arrived tuesday is overnight
sounds like false advertising - should then say, x days after the day of purchase
no bid deal - only a bluetooth headset cause i got pulled over on my way home for talking on the phone from the wedding sunday, but i hate waiting... amazon.com/gp/product/B009L7G8GI/ref=shptrk_scth
Sunday is not a day, at least not in business speak.
19:16
sunday is a day if your a programmer!
thats like saying zero isn't a number
I do all my programming with only 1's, thank you very much. :)
and no; i didn't get a ticket. the cop thought he was gonna catch me with an expired inspection, saying "you know your inspection expired in september, 2 months ago, right?" um... no? look at it again, officer (moron) - it doesn't expire until november!
... he let me go haha
One of the things on Cisco which drives me nuts is that the routers all start ports/slots at '0', and the switches start at '1'
@Aaron agreed
@lsiunsuex why did he think it expired in september? I missed a step there
19:21
he mis-read the sticker (in NY, its on the windshield) - he was even pointing to it reading it outloud - Dude - its november, not september punched out
ah
no recurring inspections required here in MD, just emission
we need them every year, 1 year from the last
7 or 8 versions in, Java finally fixed the "January is the 0th month" issue.
They released a whole new date/time framework.
19:56
I'm not sure how I'm supposed to clamp off this drain line to the dishwasher.. it's kind of thick plastic and not flexible rubber
@lsiunsuex That's pretty good.
20:15
Yay!
Congratulations!

This was only a test, designed to make sure you were paying attention. You passed. For reasonable questions, Leave Open is appropriate.
I will singlehandedly beat down the SO review queue.

that was quick - cook is probably yelling at him now

To be fair, Batman comes up as the second video in google "Black Knight" Monty Python comes up #1
unless it was on purpose; some legal crap, knowing the event was live streamed and them not being able to use a copywritten name without their permission - BUT - i'd assume they could use it cause the dark knight is available in iTunes and most things in iTunes can be used by Apple for marketing reasons

Extreme Ironing (also called EI) is an extreme sport and a performance art in which people take ironing boards to remote locations and iron items of clothing. According to the Extreme Ironing Bureau, extreme ironing is "the latest danger sport that combines the thrills of an extreme outdoor activity with the satisfaction of a well-pressed shirt." Part of the attraction and interest the media has shown towards extreme ironing seems to centre on the issue of whether it is really a sport or not. It is widely considered to be tongue-in-cheek. Some locations where such performances have take...

Is it wrong to not vote for Chris because of his affinity to Robertson Screws?

that extreme ironing reminds me of that xkcd chess rollercoast ones
how does one actually iron underwater?
