@BESW Thanks, I've forgotten how to do everything :-D
@JamesRisner And IMO it gives the game a more natural flow. In fiction and battle accounts I've heard few people fight from dawn to dusk without a break. I like the natural little pauses for dialog and RP it gives.

[amused] So spending HP on rests is just 4e's short rest with extra steps and less reliable results?

@BESW Yes, one of the things I think 4e did well

@SmokeDetector ...what is this I don't even?!

@Shalvenay Not see much spam in RPG?

@JamesRisner I've seen plenty of spam, but this is like...not even spam?

well, sabotage spam? troll spam? ;-)

If you want to troll, use potion of polymorph

If you want to next level troll, have a sock puppet then lurk to see people ponder why you did your silliness?

slow joke actually pretty funny though

Q: Non-commercial RPGs in the 40k universe?

Corgi AurellianI’m trying to figure out to what extent fan RPGs set in the 40k universe are allowed, clearly anything commercial is off the table — but as soon as it is explicitly non-commercial, it does seem in line with the guidelines? https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Intellectual-Property-Guidelines Quot...

Q: Does the Enemies Abound spell force a creature to move toward a perceived enemy in order to attack them?

K.L.R.The Enemies Abound spell specifies (emphasis mine): Whenever the affected creature chooses another creature as a target, it must choose the target at random from among the creatures it can see within range of the attack, spell, or other ability it's using. Does this mean if the affected target ...

Q: Player wants to play their one favorite character and nothing else, but that character can't work in this setting

Stop Being EvilI'm a helper DM for a West Marches style of game. One of our prospective players has a character concept that simply cannot work with the setting at all, mostly due to being from other settings (and thus implying dimensional travel and setting crossovers that we're not comfortable with). Naturall...

@C.Ross one of the many things it did well
I feel like a lot of the 4e -> 5e changes were not thought through at all...

FWIW, on the future of D&D, maybe. For some reason, I suspect that they are trying a new kind of DDO (dungeons and dragons on line) with the idea that they'll expand their custome based to MMORPG and CRPG players...

@KorvinStarmast That makes perfect sense. Everything has become SaaS :(
And honestly, if there's a market that wants that, that's fine. I'd hope they wouldn't kill previously markets to do it.

7:29 PM
@NautArch I think the idea is that they want to coopt a large enough proportion of the existing player-base into a higher revenue source so that it makes killing the previous market worth it.
If 10 people pay $2, but killing my $2 product would get 3 of them to pay $7 for the new product, it makes sense to kill the $2 product.

@ThomasMarkov Get that man a kewpie doll!

After a week of excitement over the OGL change, it seems the excitement is gone. People worried are not replying to the survey. There are a few new videos (two posts in here in the last 24 hrs), but most people are done caring? At least people in my play groups and local discords.
Am I alone? Are there other groups and chat's that are still worried?

@JamesRisner Are the survey replies public?

Personally, my strategy is basically "quiet quitting".

@NautArch Links to OGL 1.2 and the survey are here: rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/203943/…

7:43 PM
@JamesRisner Sorry :) I meant, how do you know that the people worried are not replying?

@NautArch No one in my Monday night game is. No one in my Saturday game is going to. At least in terms of when I asked if they were also going to reply like I did. In the local discord, hardly anyone seems to be interested in it. In a private discord with about 5 of my friends who were very interested in the leaked ogl 1.1, are not replying to the survey (they said no when I also asked them to do so)

Welcome to the world of politics :P
But I do hear you - I haven't replied, but I also haven't replied much to one D&D prior to this.

So I'm kinda asserting I know roughly 20 to 22 people who do not plan (their words) to reply. Do others know people who do plan to reply?

And that's mostly because I've already started stretching my legs into other games and more than happy to play with the 5e materials i own.
I am still a subscriber, but that's partially because I share with folks here.

I guess, that means that the survey will back their play? If more than half the replies are "seems good" as opposed to "you shall not pass"?

7:48 PM
Who knows what they'll do regardless of the survey. Survey is just informational only for them - and they already know what's going on.

Q: Can a Twilight Domain cleric wearing heavy armor still fly using the Steps of Night feature?

AdriA player in my campaign is a Twilight Domain cleric. The Steps of Night feature (TCoE, p. 35) allows them to gain a flying speed equal to their walking speed for one minute. As a cleric, they have heavy armor proficiency, and they just got some plate armor. Would they still be able to fly while w...

Q: Does Improved Knockdown reduce the multi-attack penalty?

vonBoomslangThe Improved Knockdown fighter and mauler feat modifies the Knockdown feat action, specifically You can dash your foe to the ground with a single blow. When you use Knockdown, instead of making a Strike followed by a Trip, you can attempt a single Strike. If you do and your Strike hits, instead ...

@JamesRisner There's still a fair bit of complaint on social media. Hopefully the vocal ones there are also making themselves heard via survey. Also, generally you're more likely to respond to a survey if you're passionate about something than if you're ambivalent. ie, "seems good" people are less likely to respond than "you shall not pass" people.
