1:12 AM
hey there @linksassin, how're things going?

Ben
[Ms. Doubtfire pitch] Helloooooo!
How is everyone in the new year?

@Shalvenay Hey, pretty good. Life's a bit hectic this year but all good things.

@Ben LLKoM playtest.

@linksassin good to hear it. I've been through a lot, but at least I'm still about

Long Live the King of Monsters! (playtest) by BESW. The King of Monster Island is dead! It's time to choose Monster Island's new king... in free-for-all combat! (access pass)

1:22 AM
@Shalvenay I'd been meaning to message you to say that the campaign with my Bladesinger ended. Reached level 20, sealed away the BBEG and got to have a nice epilog for her. Pretty happy about it.

@linksassin ah. cool. mind if we talk on Discord some?

@Shalvenay Sure.
@Ben G'day.

Ben
@BESW you had me at LLKoM
@linksassin hows it going on your end?
@linksassin I feel that. All good in regards to productivity and growth, but I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by the responsibility of it all haha

@Ben Hectic, but good. In the next six weeks I'm changing jobs, getting a second dog and have something else big coming up that I'm not sharing just yet. I'm in for a crazy year.

Ben
Yeah. For me it's a new house, explosive business growth, and raising 2 boys is a handful and a half

1:33 AM
@Ben New house and business growth is exciting. You must be doing something right.

@Ben Major changes: upper limits on dice pool and duplicate powers, which also required a new buff/debuff subsystem; attempted to make a character sheet that communicated the system more effectively.
The buff/debuff system is actually less clearly buff and debuff, as it's reroll odds (can't get minimum possible roll) and reroll evens (can't get maximum possible roll). Its primary function is to substitute for the chaos and unpredictability of "roll fistfuls of dice," which I removed so that people who don't have fistfuls of dice can still play.

Ben
Sounds good!
@linksassin well, it's more a "who you know" situation, but that's not necessarily a bad thing

I also made the Collateral Damage variant part of the core game.
(also some quality of life design stuff like using watermark images to imply that it's not strictly a kaiju game; I thought about entering LLKoM in a kaiju jam and instead realized I want to pivot harder away from kaiju as an obvious theme.)

2:22 AM
@BESW (I love that this entire mechanic just came out of us joking around with the game together)

It's all fun and games until your legions march into battle and find a destroyer in the city.

@doppelgreener It's great! And also vital! A countdown clock that ticks on missed attacks is exactly what the game needs to mitigate turtle-defense lockdown builds, and what's a monster fight without some collateral damage?

@Ben I didn't know you were in the explosives business

It also adds a worldbuilding element which brings the implication of high stakes without zooming in on tragedy so much that it stops being a romp.

Ben
2:45 AM
@AncientSwordRage it is a volatile industry
2

3:25 AM
@Ben But you've only got, at most, a handful and a half of it. How bad could the explosion possibly be?

Ben
@Phoenices it all depends on the quality

@Phoenices Don't forget, close counts in horseshoes and hand grenades!

Q: Do spells with options stack when different options are chosen?

IfusasoRe: commentary on my answer here For example, resist energy provides "resistance 5" against one of acid, cold, electricity, fire, or sonic damage; could a creature benefit from another casting of resist energy for a different energy type? A shield of elemental energy protects a creature against...

@nitsua60 Another check-in, I voted Looks Okay here rpg.stackexchange.com/review/low-quality-posts/78157 due that meta - without it I would have voted to delete. The answer is clearly an honest attempt just for a different system and doesn't apply at all to the question.

9:28 AM
@Akixkisu I'm not a mod here, but that's salvageable by the OP, so I just voted Looks Ok

@AncientSwordRage I don't think the answer applies at all. KRyan's suggestion to replace it with a different answer would work though.

@Akixkisu I think given details on how to take 'the Grey-paladin archetype for the paladin, and putting it on the anti-paladin' when they are different (but highly related) games/editions could work

@Akixkisu I VtC; just not enough meat. If they want to pursue this they can upgrade it.

@KorvinStarmast The damage one? I get it, though from a glance it looks like they workshopped quite a bit in chat, so maybe that will make it in there.
It is a difficult to ask question.

@Akixkisu Actually, I figure it would be better to talk here than in comments; one sec...

@Exempt-Medic That the current answers aren't addressing the problem is a good argument.

To me, the recent damage roll question asks both "How many damage rolls is this?" (which we already have on the site) and "When does the minimum damage rule apply" which is a completely separate question the answers don't address

@Exempt-Medic I read it as "What are all of the moving parts that together constitute damage rolls?"
But Then going into those two specific scenarios.
So in that regard I'm hesitant to split up the two scenarios into different questions.
That might be a better approach. But I also feel like we would move away from a more complex issue to answering separate less complex ones instead of dividing the more complex issue into smaller steps of that issue.

2:10 PM
I think the big thing convincing me they are separate questions is that the additional effects/features in play are completely different except one

My take is that this is one of those "better left to specific questions about specific features" sort of things. I imagine there are far more exceptions than there are situations that would fit neatly into whatever general rule we can come up with.

@ThomasMarkov Oh yes, I was debating posting an answer along those lines showcasing that a consistent interpretation cannot be achieved, well, not without making some big conceits
Hmm, apparently conceit and concession are both not the word I wanted... "not without make some big suspensions of disbelief" then

What I don't want is for us to think this question is a good dupe target candidate for questions about specific features, but I'm not too worried about y'all taking it there.

I'm still debating duping the new question to the first one I linked in my link walls

@Exempt-Medic Idk, I think my general approach to the damage calculation steps can do that.

2:16 PM
Some general questions are good candidates for that, like What counts as an attack?, because there is somewhat clear guidance in the rules that captures a substantial number of feature interactions.

@Akixkisu No, the grey paladin one that you had linked to.

@KorvinStarmast Ah, I didn't read VtC as vote to delete, understood :)

@Akixkisu As to the damage question, enkryptor gives a nice, thorough answer while the other answer is so low effort that it's better off gone until a bit more meat is put on the bone (IMO)

@Akixkisu You didn't get the memo? It's "Vote to Cancel"

@Akixkisu I suppose VtD would have been a better short hand. 😊

2:20 PM
Can someone write me a user script that changes "delete" to "bonk"? I want to see a message saying "Vote to bonk this post?".

@KorvinStarmast It is good, but somewhat incomplete due the complexity of the issue which mainly goes into that a lot of times the steps in a damage calc don't matter much, but sometimes they matter a lot.

"This post is hidden. I was bonked 5 minutes ago by..."

@ThomasMarkov Can't wait for "unbonked" and "bonkrious"

Perhaps incomplete isn't appropriate — the choosen scope doesn't address some specific bits.

The specific bits that I personally think could be their own question. But eh, damage rolls are a mess when you get to the nitty-gritty

2:25 PM
Me: Where's the 'centaur of mass'?, them: Where are the organs! How does it eat! Giraffes!
2

@AncientSwordRage Look at the lumbar extension on the centaur going down stairs.

@ThomasMarkov ???

The right image, the centaur would have to arch his human back significantly to not fall forward going down stairs.

2:58 PM
@ThomasMarkov that is the issue I'm trying to figure out

3:40 PM
@ThomasMarkov should the CoG be more like this? i.stack.imgur.com/aIqcK.png

@AncientSwordRage No, you couldnt have the center of mass be outside the body without significant body contortion.

3:56 PM
Missing info: just how much heavier is the horsie torso compared to monky torso?

4:11 PM
@ThomasMarkov hmm, I was thinking the hind quarters would be high enough?
like the CoG in a V shape, it's in the middle part between the 'arms'
@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica that's an exercise left to the answerer
I've stated the human portion of the centaur weighs the same as that proportion of a human would, and the same for the horse part
people were saying "Aha! The human part is hollow as all the organs have to be in the horse part"

@nitsua60 Same as the other check-in. Instead I flagged it for bannering. rpg.stackexchange.com/a/195378/44723

7:55 PM
What's bannering?

@doppelgreener The act of applying a banner
The post was not bannering, it was flag to be bannered

Oh! I understand now
Thanks

@BESW truly a mood

Q: What is a damage roll?

WakiNadiVellirHow do the rules define Damage Roll? Example, a Hexblade Rogue hits and rolls damage for attack with a short sword (1d6 piercing), as a sneak attack (2d6 piercing), while Hex spell is active on target (1d6 necrotic), with blade coated with Serpent Venom (3d6 poison, save for half), adding Valor ...

@HotRPGQuestions I was hoping that would stay under the hotness threshhold

9:25 PM
@ThomasMarkov Because?

I can think of a reason or two, but I find it hard to articulate them. Part of it is the impression it gives to others, I think.

10:11 PM
@ThomasMarkov Assuming of course that the centaur doesn't bend it's knees on it's hind legs to a different degree to it's front leg
