hello all :)

Q: Can I get some examples of users assuming a question is asking for 5e when it isn't?

Please stop being evilI know this is common but my google-fu is failing me (particularly since the relevant search field would mostly be in the comment section of deleted answers). Does anyone have some helpful example questions where users posted an answer assuming a question was for 5e when it wasn't? I think Dungeo...

@TheOracle I don't pay attention to D&D stuff at all, so all my examples are people assuming a question is for D&D when it's already tagged with another system.
I especially "like" the one where somebody actually SAYS in their answer that they know it's not a D&D question but they're going to answer it for D&D anyway.
That is the level of D&D-default we've got on this site.
Somebody can look at a system tag for a game that's free to read and only a dozen pages long, and go "Nah, I'll just answer for D&D instead, that'll be close enough, right?"

12:34 AM
@BESW Yeah I'm trying to figure out whether answering that question is acceptable... I posted an answer but now I'm worried since it feels like "Hey, look at these mistakes people made!"

The whole thing is a mess and I admire the tenacity of anyone who's still trying to make the Stack a pleasant place for people to exist.

1:04 AM
@BESW it's jQuery all over again
There's an issue where people take frame-challange/the X/Y problem too far, and it's very unhelpful

@BESW Yeah, most of the wrong-system/edition answers I've seen have been on questions that are already tagged with a different system/edition

@AncientSwordRage It's not even that, it's people who so lack experience with non-D&D TRPGs that they struggle to even imagine a game that doesn't have damage-dealing mechanics, or where the GM is specifically instructed to invite player collaboration in worldbuilding. Or, on the other end of the things, that they struggle to imagine games which do share qualities with a particular D&D edition but aren't that edition.

(usually unintentionally rather than intentionally ignoring the tagged system, but still)
yeah

@BESW maybe so, but it's a similar principal "All I understand are hammers, if we assume your problem is a nail, I can suggest a hammer as a solution". I've seen people disguise it as frame change or X/Y problems

This question is, like, the motherlode of people leaping to D&D-like assumptions about a system they could have read for free twice in half an hour.
There was also a long period where people kept demanding that when I asked a question about a system they weren't familiar with, I should copy-paste the rules into the question post so they could answer it without learning the system.
Some users got kinda nasty when I refused.

1:15 AM
@BESW wow
Just wow, that's all.

I encountered someone recently who thought Lady Blackbird was a D&D adventure module.
That franchise has a scary amount of ontological weight.

@BESW What in the... wow

@Medix2 To be fair, they were just glancing at the game's old webpage where it uses the words "adventure module."

@BESW Because that means so much :(

Yeah, D&D has taken up so much of the hobby's oxygen that it's hard for people to remember an adventure module might not be for D&D.

1:29 AM
@BESW I don't think I'm ready to hear "Oh your game has armor? Must be dnd!" like... that's the absurdity I see in "adventure module" being that specific... I just, wow

Aye. Then again, you've spent a fair amount of time in this chat where people like myself shout very loudly about aggressively un-D&D-like TRPGs.
I've seen people assume a system tag was genre tag (can't track down the link right now, I think it was in since-deleted comments).

@BESW I assumed it was an adventure module for a system, not a system into itself. I can see why people thought that though. If you only know d&d, that's all you know 🤷🏻‍♂️
@BESW oh because it had to be d&d? That's crazy

We also get a lot of 4e erasure in answers (claims that something is unique to 5e, but it was actually imported from 4e), which I suspect also leads to mis-identifying untagged 4e questions.

Jul 15 at 0:53, by AncientSwordRage
Wait... Is it a game or a module?

@AncientSwordRage In this case, it was a horror game called Lovecraftesque, and they were talking about Call of Cthulhu (one of the few giants which has historically stood against D&D as a Game Hobbiests Probably Know About) as an example of a Lovecraftesque game.

1:35 AM
@BESW I'm curious about that
@BESW hah

@AncientSwordRage here's an example of making a claim that something is unique to 5e, which was very clear and common in 4e.
We saw during the D&D Next period that Wizards put a lot of work into wiggling out of recognizing 4e's direct influences on 5e, instead placing great weight on the influences of 2e and 3.x. This attitude of ignoring 4e seems to have leeched into parts of the player base, probably mostly people who played 3.x and Pathfinder instead of 4e during that edition's tenure.
So I'd be shocked if there weren't examples of 4e questions getting read as 5e because people are primed to ignore 4e entirely.

Interesting to note that all the examples seem to be quite old, I wonder if this is still a problem.

@BESW Honestly, the more I hear about the problems of D&D the more I feel like my groups play it wrong (by which I mean, somehow more right). But I have stopped play of all D&D games for myself and am now playing the much smaller games

I have no idea, though, because I tapered off using mainsite a couple years ago, and I was reducing my interaction with D&D content for years before that.

@BESW 4e really broke the mold

1:41 AM
Heh.

In a good way

@gszavae ...I realize we're in Extreme Crime Dilation, but July 21st wasn't that long ago.

One of there reasons I appreciate 4e so much is that by rejecting a lot of the mechanical traditions of its predecessors, it helped me see the elements of the franchise's underlying philosophy and attitudes that I was struggling with but had attributed to mechanics while playing 3.5.

It was explained to me, before BESW explained it to me better, that 4e was a streamlining that felt a lot more Gamey than Traditional

@Glazius Which example are you talking about? I only saw the ones from 4+ years ago :/

A: Is there a cost for donning or doffing a shield and armor during combat?

GlaziusShields: as weapons. 13th Age did away with the buckler/light/heavy/tower distinction, so all you get out of shields is basically a +1 AC for a free hand if your class is proficient. No reason why rotating your weaponry as a quick action wouldn't also set up your shield. Armor: not really a comba...

Oh, whoops.
7
Q: Is there a cost for donning or doffing a shield and armor during combat?

NautArchI have been unable to see a mechanic for donning and doffing armor and shields during combat. Is this "free" or is there an action cost?

I feel like a lot of the choices of 4e would be steps forward if taken now towards a 6e D&D

Yeah, I remember 13th Age getting a noticeable number of D&D answers back in the day, too. It uses d20s and classes and stuff, so it MUST be D&D, right?

@Glazius Nice, didn't see this one :thumbsup:

@Axoren Oh that reminds me I really want to read more 6e material.

It occurs to me that another problem with misidentifying questions is that fairly new people looking for questions to answer can't see that somebody else's answer to the same question got rejected because they thought it was a D&D 5E question.

6e Game Jam hosted by Batts. This one is for the queer, underprivileged, POC, and black creators that are trying to take and reclaim what that one company from the coast has forged. This one is for you. Take it.
@Glazius This is a good point about a major structural flaw in the Stack's design: learning from mistakes is individual, not communal, because in the name of Clarity And Ease Of Use, mistakes get buried in unmarked graves.

All this is making me feel like restarting my attempts at making a game system if my own

Seriously, just do it. It'll be pants because it's your first thing but that's how you get better: by making something awful and learning from it.
You don't have to share it publicly, or with anyone at all if you don't want to, the learning from the doing is its own reward. When I started writing games I made TERRIBLE things but it immediately changed how I interacted with published texts and my table.

@BESW Is there a better place that this site to get an understand of 6e?
I'm somewhat confused at what I'm looking at

@BESW There's not that many 13th Age questions, so it may be a question of proportions. Rather than "it happened a lot" it may be a case of "it happened 5 times, but that's 10% of all questions!"

@BESW Well, most of the hidden answers there are from people deleting their own posts - because they don't want to eat downvotes? Even though I don't think eating pure downvotes actually gives you less Internet points?

1:52 AM
Definitely, an issue that could use more information gathering.

@Axoren 6e is a loose collection of games and games material that's basically... people from groups that don't usually get to be influential in projects like D&D, speculating about what could be if they were.

@Axoren count me in as well
@BESW 6e sounds more like a community than a concrete game.

@BESW Is 6e all one game or separate games?
How do I use this?
How do I engage with 6e content?

It's many games, and also material made for those games.
You look at the submissions and buy things which seem interesting, just like you'd engage with any other collection of game material.
If you just want one system to focus on I'd recommend BOLT, it's the most active and developed expression of 6e that I'm aware of, and it has a lot of its own offshoots developing.
Or you could check out the PbtA version of 6e if you want to see how a system you may already know, can be adapted in new directions.

@BESW got a link re: BOLT?

The BOLT RPG Engine (v0.2.1) by Ajey Pandey is a modding-focused role-playing game engine designed to port across multiple settings. It’s a d10+d4 skill-based system, with fast and lethal combat, an XP system that prioritizes roleplaying, and a core resolution mechanic that incentivizes risk-taking and inducing chaos.
Jul 8 at 9:59, by BESW
Ajey Pandey wrote a twitter thread about how his game Bolt is "not really aiming for newcomers. It's going for GAME DESIGNERS."

The BOLT RPG Engine Tarot Magic System by Cas uses a 78-card tarot deck to create a mysterious and powerful magic system for your game.

FAST: The Sequel to BOLT by Ajey Pandey. This is a submission to The Sonic 2006 of RPGs Game Jam. It’s a joke game, not a real sequel. I do not recommend playing it.
Jul 12 at 23:20, by BESW
Ace Combat: Thunderbolt by Ajey Pandey is a hack of the BOLT RPG Engine, emulating the atmosphere and story beats of the Ace Combat arcade jet-fighter video game series—that is, a series of anime dramas about ace pilots told through melodramatic cutscenes and snappy in-flight radio transmissions.

@BESW thanks! might buy a copy even

I've also been hearing interesting things about DASH: A bolt-alike by Amr Ammourazz. DASH is a hack of BOLT by Ajey Pandey inspired by the two mechanics of the FATE SRD, specifically FATE Accelerated, which make it sing to me: Aspects and Stunts. It merges the aspects with the skill and characteristics system from Bolt as Truths, and integrates stunts with feats.

Q: Do these stats cover enough of a person's ability?

PureferretI've had this thought in my head for a while, as I'm developing my game, but this question really sparked me into posing the question. @BESW this was my first stab

I'll look later! About to watch some She-Ra with friends.

I mean....I like it. A little. ;)

I feel a compulsion to finish watching Adventure Time and Steven Universe first though

That'll be interesting, because those shows are arguably stepping-stones toward making She-Ra possible.

user15026
I never finished either of those. Someday maybe I will fix that.

2:16 AM
@AncientSwordRage Watch it now!
lol

@AncientSwordRage Maybe there is some form of watch order guide, since both of those shows have multiple storylines and plenty of filler episodes
She-Ra doesn't really have filler episodes. Does it? As far I remember, every episode advances some plot arc and/or shows some character progression. It is quite good.

user15026
I don't think it does, no

@BESW that's what I thought
Also I have dragon prince and bravest warriors on my radar

3:01 AM
Should a scroll of regain second level spell slot be second or third level?

What system is this for?

In theory 5e

third level or perhaps higher. Triadspell from 3.5e might be useful as a very loose guide?

Well, spell level doesn't really mean much since the scroll isn't producing a spell effect
Unless "get regain a Nth level spell slot" is part of a homebrew spell, maybe? Although that wouldn't really make sense as a spell in 5e, since there's no Vancian magic.

Trying to figure out what would happen if somebody tried to copy the scroll into a spellbook.

3:10 AM
@Joshua You can only copy spells into spell books, only spell scrolls contain spells (and only spells have spell levels) - scrolls that are not spell scrolls don't contain spells and can't be copied into spellbooks (and do not have spell levels, since there is no spell)
Do you /want/ it to be copyable into a spellbook?

Not really.

So it is a spell? There wouldn't really be any reason to prepare it. It would only make sense as some resource outside of spellcasting slots... in which case, why make it a spell?

@Joshua No problem then. No spell, can't be copied :)

Because the only instructions I can find for making scrolls require expending the spell slot of the scroll's level. Shrug.
@MikeQ: Well if you could, it might be useful to pass slots from wizard to cleric.

Huh. Ok, I follow the logic here. Seems rather roundabout, though. Wouldn't it be simpler to just have a consumable item that refreshes a Nth level spell slot?

3:17 AM
Yeah.
I guess when I give the player an item to handle as opposed to a mysterious obstruction I want them to be able to understand how it could plausibly exist in the world.

@Joshua Well, if you do want to make it a spell, and you do want to make it a spell scroll, then I'm not sure that using a second or third level spell slot to regain a spell slot would be that useful.
But like you said, if you can transfer slots, it's cool, and 2nd is probably fine for that

If it has to be a spell, then it may as well be the same level as the slot it refreshes. Because it's more versatile than a spell scroll, but it takes 1 additional action, and can't be used to cast spells the user doesn't have available. Although if it's a bonus action to cast, then maybe it should be one level higher.

Funny glitch in the rules: there are some stock spellbooks that contain cantrips, and if you find a cantrip in a spellbook you can copy it into yours. You still can't cast it, but you can (I think) make scrolls of that spell.

Nope. Wizards can only copy spells of 1st level or higher.

Huh must have patched that. I guess the cantrips in the stock spellbooks really are useless now.

3:29 AM
> Your spellbook is the repository of the wizard spells you know, except your cantrips, which are fixed in your mind.

Yeah, afaik there's no use for cantrips in spellbooks.

Too bad. Multiclassing one level of druid or cleric is a really expensive way of getting more cantrips.

You can't learn them, you can't cast them, you can't use them to scribe scrolls. As much as any of that would make sense with the given lore...

Hmmm; can any cantrips be ritual cast?

No. There wouldn't really be a reason to do so.

3:36 AM
@MikeQ Idk about that, at the very least it would work for the ancient secrets book. Beyond that, yeah idk

I had this brainwave that's either brilliant or stupid. To make an uncopyable spell, make it at cantrip level, ritual cast, and put into a spellbook. The only way to cast it would be ritual casting out of the spellbook.

If the spell is on any class's spell list, then a bard could get it.

I don't think you can ritual cast from a spellbook
If you want an uncopyable spell, don't make it a spell. Make it a magic item. It's a book that lets you transfer a spell slot if you do a ritual for 1 hour. Don't bother messing around with spells
No one is out there trying to add "+1 weapon" to their spellbook (or are they?)

Who plays a weapon smith?

Ah, now that is an area of expertise in which I am sorely lacking.

Also my chem book for next year is about the size of 6 D&D5e player’s Handbooks stacked on top of each other

Ooof yeah, I've had a few of those in my time.
The art history 210 textbook was significantly cheaper as one volume than two, but it was too heavy for any of my bags to hold.

That’s got to have been bad. I only have to haul this one to and from my desk at home ... at least unless schools reopen

Well that's a relief, for now.

10:08 AM
@AncientSwordRage It was excellent! We've only got two episodes left in the series now, and it's been really great to re-watch it with more friends and see it through their eyes.

@BESW sounds lovely

10:25 AM
Again I should really watch it
Were you able to look at that question I asked?

Just got out of a zoom meeting, looking now.
Iiiinteresting.
That's a very strong thesis statement you're making with those stats.

@BESW yes.
I was not set on them in '16 and I'm not set on them now
but I like the idea that if you have a character who is focuses in brute, they're as likely to smash a combination lock as try all combinations
I want who the characters are also be expressions of how they behave
Big Flaw: How does it cover characters who's ability is behind/ahead they're behaviour or personality
but thats outside the scope of the question

10:50 AM
Let me know if you have any other thoughts

What kind of thoughts would you like?

11:01 AM
@BESW general impression maybe?
> If your wizard gets upset because a spell is different to the magic item then, when they get to 7th level, refer them to the Fabricate spell - using this they can build a bridge and get over it
Unfriendly? ^
@BESW the crux of that question is, can you describe most characters with those characteristics, but I think the answer might be no

@AncientSwordRage Eeeeh I'm not a fan of that, no.

I guess that's hard to know without knowing the rest of the system which I haven't filled out
@BESW my instinct is to edit it out, rather than flag

@AncientSwordRage I like the goal of designing a personality-based system. You're really just re-stating D&D stats, though, and that's where your struggle lies: you haven't stepped far enough away from the system you're designing against, to be actually designing against it yet.
@AncientSwordRage Yeah, it's not adding anything.
Edit it out, then keep an eye on it for a while to see if things escalate.

@BESW followed
@BESW if I recall correctly some of my inspiration was actually World of Darkness/ Chronicles of Darkness, but yes the D&D analogy is strong too

I'd say it looks to me like you've asked game systems what qualities they think personalities can be constructed from, but you haven't yet asked yourself that question.

11:12 AM
@BESW that's great insight

This is a very solid first stab at game design. You've got a clear goal and you're drawing on your table experience to explore it.

@BESW that's a very reassuring thing to hear

There are entire published game systems with less thought and deliberation than I see implied in that question.
And I think the third game you make will be really exciting.

@doppelgreener I think I could dig up some of those deleted fate answers for you if you'd like

@Someone_Evil ive got the deleted pots query up now, I can see if I can modify it to filter by tag

12:34 PM
@Someone_Evil i found one that was an answer like "i'm sure fate works just like D&D" at least. i'm not sure what dark wanderer is most interested in; maybe check with them if they're interested in drawing attention to some of those?
maybe the links they already got from Glazius are enough

@Someone_Evil @doppelgreener Ive got a query that searches for deleted posts with a specific tag.

noice
SEDE can do that??

yeah.
just input a date range and a tag.

@Someone_Evil I'm just curious why were looking at old questions?

@Someone_Evil there are 17 deleted answers tagged 'fate'

12:42 PM
@ThomasMarkov We have more than one fate tag (as there's more than one version)
@AncientSwordRage What?

query is linked up there if you want to mess with it

@Someone_Evil deleted fate questions?

deleted:1 [fate*] is:a gives 73 results when run as a diamond
@AncientSwordRage Context for you

i was smashing through the month pages in reputation leagues and got rate limited.

Rate limited?
Why do I feel like this is something I should at least know what is...?

12:53 PM
my IP is temoporarily suspended for too many requests
its okay, I turned on my proxy and got back in.

On SEDE or main?

main lol

Either way, from a cursory glance at MSE on it, rate limiting seems to be based on page requests (you shouldn't be affected by question/answer limits, and those shouldn't be solved by switching IP). It's also possible there are other things on your IP doing stuff, depending on what the routing looks like

i was mashing "previous month" in reputation leagues as fast as the page could load. Probably hit 60-70 times in 30 seconds or less.

@Someone_Evil ah thanks

1:00 PM
That might do it :)

@ThomasMarkov For a while we were keeping a list of related-to-fate tags in the fate tag wiki. Dunno how up to date it is now.
'cause, like, [fate*] isn't gonna catch a lot of questions.

It's kinda like searching [d20*]; you're gonna miss a lot of the D&D questions. Or questions.
For a while it looked like people were going through and adding the tag to questions. I dunno if that's continued or been reversed or abandoned.

@doppelgreener I could add my most recent one on 13th age.
But I do kinda agree that making a list of all these answers where someone responded incorrectly isn't...nice.

1:19 PM
Yeah. Like, one of the answers I provided in chat was the third or fourth answer ever given by a user who has since proven --to the best of my knowledge-- a reliable content creator who mostly keeps a low profile and just writes good posts.
If anything I think the evidence shows that it's not a problem with particular users, it's been a long-term site-wide pattern for years that doesn't happen super often but never goes away either.
I think it would be more useful to see if people who have been guessing correctly stop guessing after an incorrect guess. But that's much harder data to collect.

If anything, it shows that many times people don't look at tags. They read questions and make assumptions.

@NautArch Yup, that's always been clear, since the Bad Old Days of tagging raw/rai.
I'm personally of the opinion that emergent folksonomies stop being functionally emergent the instant we endorse tagging as a replacement for information in the main object.
3

@Glazius there were tags and everything ... 😛
@gszavae wizards can
@AncientSwordRage Have you taken a look at classic traveller?
@BESW I had a discussion with sevensided a few years ago about a feeling I got that people were using tags as a shortcut, or an excuse, for not putting sufficient information into the body of the text question.

1:47 PM
@KorvinStarmast I don't think so, I definitely looked at some editions at uni though
@KorvinStarmast Pact of the Tome warlocks ritual from their 'book of shadows', right?
@KorvinStarmast anything about it stand out?

@AncientSwordRage Yes, that also.

And anyone with the ritual caster feat, no?

@AncientSwordRage The thing I remember with classic traveller is that the stats were not quite what you are looking for, but were all used a lot more in various situations: combat itself was quite rare and really lethal IME. The characters were built through background as much as, even more than, the rolled 2d6 stat array. (Of course, hilariously, your PC could die during chargen ... hehehe)
Where I think that may be helpful to you is in thinking through the synergy between "who the character is" and "what those numbers are" ... but as a system it was kinda raw in comparison to a lot of more recent stuff.
@Someone_Evil It has a book? I never pick that feat, and I have never seen why I would pick it versus something else.

2:10 PM
> These spells are written in a ritual book, which you must have in hand while casting one of them.

@Someone_Evil aha; can we add to the book during our adventures?

Yes, using the same rules as wizards as far as I can tell

@Someone_Evil OH, that might be more useful in a long campaign, then.

@KorvinStarmast the last time I played Traveller it was Traveller mongoose and I had 2 characters die in as many sessions. One in chargen, one in a combat gone very wrong

grin it's been so long since I played, I wonder if there's a group nearby. I'd have to get some up dated rules, I doubt classic has stood the test of time.

2:14 PM
@KorvinStarmast yes... this definitely can happen

I'll never forget the first time I saw Firefly. My reaction was "this is a Traveller based adventure" ... at that point, I had no Idea that Wheadon had played Traveller when he was in college ...

@NautArch i gather the dark wanderer is just looking for some things to gesture to as an example when discussing protection, like "when people are doing this kind of thing, you know, you've probably seen it other times too". like he draws attention to they're hard to locate like this anyway.
we've had a handful of case-by-case metas examining whether it's safe to modfiy the question, so those are probably the closest thing to actual receipts, but those are limited to cases where people thought it was worth asking about, rather than e.g. all the cases where someone made a guess in comments but it didn't escalate beyond that point.

@KorvinStarmast it's a shame there's not more ritual spells

@AncientSwordRage yeah, that's one of those "we need to scrub the list again to fill in some gaps" I think.

@AncientSwordRage i cast fireball....as a ritual spell

2:20 PM
@KorvinStarmast yeah

@AncientSwordRage We had a DM back in the 70's who treated the summon elemental spell as a ritual (before that was even a thing/rule) based on how the fiction around it worked in stories like Conan and such ...

@KorvinStarmast that's a good consideration about char gen

@KorvinStarmast what happened on 12/12/2019? You got 43 badges on that day.

@BESW it also means people miss information because it's not actually where the information is meant to be, it's down where some rectangles are, none of which have any new information, except for that one which you need to notice is actually new information

looks like a lot of people got a lot of badges on 12/12/19

2:26 PM
@ThomasMarkov Might have been the xmas hat thing?
Or, it was when questions went rom 5 points per up vote to 10 points per up vote?

What that the introduction of the new ones? (lifeboat and lifejacket)

@ThomasMarkov sounds like some kind of recalcution

Looking at korvin's profile it looks like a bunch of announcer badges, which lines up with a note in what ASR linked

@BESW it's been reverted by the OP

@AncientSwordRage i raised a custom flag for attention.

2:36 PM
@doppelgreener thanks

2:47 PM
While we're talking about it, someone mentioned that my tone in this answer sounded a bit condescending, I changed it to use "we" instead of "you", do yall think its okay now?

It needs more smiley faces, ASCII art, and animated gifs. Otherwise it seems fine.

@MikeQ and more cowbell

@KorvinStarmast Always more cowbell :)

3:27 PM
Did we find anymore mistaken identity questions about dnd-5e?
Also, @BESW I hope I enjoy making my third system as much as the first. I much more of a polisher than a restarter

@AncientSwordRage I imagine it would be difficult to hunt them all down, since they've been likely been properly tagged by now. There was a particular problematic question from a while back, which I think prompted the policy in the first place, but I don't remember where it is.

@AncientSwordRage You mean questions accidentally tagged as 5e by mistake? Or questions answered as 5e when they aren't?

3:46 PM
@doppelgreener I'm looking for where I can find the ranking of most spammed SE sites. Would you happen to know where to find that?
(specifically in reference to us being in 9th place)

Ryan Donovan on June 25, 2020
If you put a textbox on the Internet, someone will put spam in it. If you put a textbox on a site that gets millions of hits a day, lots of someones will put lots of spam in it. So Stack Exchange uses multiple layers to block all the spam coming in.
halfway down the page :)
a dubious honour

ahhhh! I saw that link but for some reason I ignored it because I was looking for something on the charcoal page XD

There might be something in metasmoke too! Charcoal HQ would know

@ThomasMarkov The "double no" feels a bit much to me. It's a single line and kinda final?

@Medix2 I edited that out a while ago lol

3:54 PM
@ThomasMarkov Ah Mb, guess I missed that change
@ThomasMarkov You're recent grapple/shove answers reminds me that the Shadow Monk's Shadow Step technically gives advantage to Grapple/Shove because it grants it to an attack and not an attack roll

@doppelgreener I've gotta wonder that there might be some other factors behind those numbers. I guess being all-time would be one thing. Looking at current stats I know there are sites that get more smokey-detected spam flags then we do. TWP, for example gets around 1 a day from my experience and oftentimes more (which puts it well above us). and isn't on that ranking.
I'm also surprised to see SO that low!

This might be limited by the number of flags Smokey can cast, and they only started recently.
There might be a more comprehensive list inside metasmoke, but someone like artofcode would know about that better than me.

Yeah I'll ping them. :-)
@doppelgreener apropos of nothing, the TL now has ROs that were elected. 4 of them. I have the dubious honor of being one of them. I thought you might be interested given some of the issues we had before.

4:14 PM
@Rubiksmoose the later

@AncientSwordRage Alas, it's tough to find this info. We can't search flags for it and we can't search comments (much less deleted comments) for it either :(

user15026
@Rubiksmoose I'm glad to know they finally did something in that regard

@Rubiksmoose :O
That's great!!!
I am very happy you're among the people holding hammers

@Rubiksmoose so long as we have good examples for that meta question

4:40 PM
@doppelgreener Small hammers right now, but it's a start :)
@Ash Me too! Long overdue. The cool thing was it was all driven by the mods and not by the CMs. So hopefully this will result in positive change eventually.
@doppelgreener I'm happy with everyone who was appointed so I'm glad of that.

@Rubiksmoose also good!!
I like how you've handled a lot of things in chat, so, that is comforting

blush

@Rubiksmoose What's an RO?

user435118
@Medix2 Room Owner

@Daniil Oh doi

4:53 PM
@Daniil and suddenly a Daniil! :) How's it going?

@Medix2 It's also Reverse Osmosis, a method used to turn seawater into fresh water on ships at sea since the mid to late 1970's ... and nowadays, people can put small RO units into their homes to clean up their city water/well water, for human consumption. (Fact of the Day ...)

user15026
@KorvinStarmast yep, I know a number of people with these! (I grew up rurally where we had a lot of well water, and often it was very sulfur-y.)

@KorvinStarmast How efficient are cubic moose at reverse osmosis?

@KorvinStarmast I actually know quite a lot about reverse osmosis XD

And my grammer/spell assist tells me "moose" is the plural of "moose" apparently, not "mooses" as I initially wrote, nor "meese" is I'm still compelled towards

5:08 PM
@Someone_Evil Mouse, mice; house, hice; goose, geese; moose meese. I forget the linguistic name for such events but there is a name for it

@Someone_Evil I believe the correct term is osmoosis.

The same/opposite thing happens with the verb dove becoming dived and uh... Something with rode somewhere

And just as efficient as we are with everything else. Which is to say, not very XD

user435118
@Rubiksmoose Alright, how about yourself?

@Daniil Keeping busy, hanging in there. Looking forward to running my campaign tonight and stuff. The ususal :)

user435118
5:13 PM
@Rubiksmoose What campaign?

My Masks campaign (Masks is a game about teenage superheroes coming into themselves and making a royal mess of things in the process).

MOOSEN
@Rubiksmoose new single month record is 6275 rep.

Listen, you can't just tell me I hold a record and then beat it several days later. That's cheating ;-)

Hahaha

5:38 PM
@Rubiksmoose It was a warning and a heads up XD

GcL
6:22 PM
Anyone recall where the 5e rule is about clerics being able to put their holy symbol on a shield?

PHB 151 (equipment > adventuring gear > holy symbol)

GcL
Thanks.
Ha! This cleric is going to get billed another 25 gold to get their holy symbol put on a new shield. That's going to be a riot for the other players.

What happened to the first one?

GcL
It's not magic. The cleric player ... I'm pretty sure is part dragon. Loves having magic stuff and loathes to part with any gold.
They're likely going to hem and haw and bemoan having to pay 25gp to get their symbol put on the new shiny magic shield they just obtained.... despite also having thousands of gold pieces.
The other players usually find this entertaining.

6:52 PM
@GcL : sounds fun

GcL
It's usually a few minutes among the characters and sometimes players directly. Usually ends with another character offering to pay for it, the joke being it's all coming from party treasure anyway.

7:19 PM
Well, good day to you all

2 hours later…
8:59 PM
@BardicWizard tips hat

9:09 PM
I've been reading some posts on xanthir.com/blog and I'm enjoying it. Not all RPG related, but quite a bit

I’m thinking about building a truenamer class for d&d5e. Bad idea or not? On second thoughts, it probably depends

Have you any experience with BOLT?
I looked away for a second and there's a removed message and a person who's torn.
Did I walk into an awkward situation?

I don't think it relates to you (I have no idea what the removed message was about to be honest). Best not to worry

Nope just me moving my keyboard without realizing it was still attached and it typed gibberish XD If you must know it says: " I ashkjlhs Doug" I have no idea how I got "Doug" from random keyboard contact.

I mean, only one of three words were gibberish

9:16 PM
@BardicWizard There was a "Onomancy" UA wizard from 2019, trying to reimplement the truenamer stuff

@MikeQ I’ll check that out

9:35 PM
@Someone_Evil Whoops. I'll keep that in mind.

Someone from German.SE is probably really confused right now.

@Rubiksmoose Do you mind moving the conversation from this morning to NAB?

I just dismissed the flags quickly, chances are no-one saw them. At least not long enough to care

9:37 PM
Thanks.

@MikeQ Sure, we can do that. Can you point us to which one specifically? Morning can mean many different things :)

@Rubiksmoose That would be messages #55116435 to #55116654

ah yes. No problem

9:42 PM
So many quarantine channels
Now Mathcanus is favorited.

@Someone_Evil Judging by the lack of moderators flooding into the room I'd say you got it well in time lol

@Rubiksmoose Usually the flag has to be spicer than that for the mods to come flooding in, in my experience

That's true. Needs that spicy drama aspect.

Flag: Ghost Pepper Concentrate.

9:57 PM
Does a gaming adventure about dealing with a pandemic sound like it might be a bad idea rn? I don’t always know what hits a nerve outside my own gaming groups

@BardicWizard This is a question for your players. If you want it to be a secret, it's likely not worth the risk. Many people have been impacted by the 'rona.

@BardicWizard I guess it depends on what your players want?
And what "dealing with a pandemic" means for you game

I’m going to just go with no then

It doesn't have to be no. You just need to be aware about how your players will engage with such a game.

@BardicWizard Will likely vary by group. I'd play one if it's interesting.

user15026
9:59 PM
I'd probably not, but I tend to prefer softer/cozier things than a lot of people I know, so I am a bad person to ask :P
