@nitsua60 YOUR CAT FOLLOWS YOU ON WALKS?! 😻
2

GcL
4:12 PM
There's a neighborhood house cat here that used to follow the children to school... and into the classroom... and solicit pets from just about everyone.

4:29 PM
I love it.

GcL
The teacher used to call their mother, "Could you come get your cat, please." Apparently she was a big distraction.

something i just read in a history.se answer:
> The vast majority of wounds documented during the Civil War were caused by the Minié ball, while the rest were from grapeshot, canister or other exploding shells. Few men were treated for saber or bayonet wounds and even fewer for cannon ball wounds.
somehow this has me wondering if they are expecting most people hit with cannonballs to have treatable injuries

GcL
Sounds like survivor bias

because i would expect the number of people treated for cannonball wounds would be limited to those who dropped them on their foot carrying them to the cannon

GcL
The only people that got to be treated were the ones that weren't already dead.

4:36 PM
right

@Rubiksmoose It's ridiculous. Neighbors call her our puppy.

awwww : )

@nitsua60 That's just not fair. It's so adorable!
(also talk about a good setup for that playtest :) )

Q: The Q3 2020 Roadmap is up on the Blog

Sara ChippsI just posted to our blog about our Third Quarter Community Roadmap for 2020. Please see the post for details on the projects that our Community and Public Platform teams aim to work on this quarter. We are interested in your thoughts and questions regarding our upcoming projects and priorities ...

4:56 PM
@ThomasMarkov TIL DnD Beyond has a Sage Advice Compendium document page, thanks for that!

@Medix2 so much easier than using the pdf

Assuming it's accurate... The things I've checked are though

@Medix2 I think the only thing is it not containing links to the errata docs
But I guess those aren't relevant to DDB as their copies contain the errata (sometimes before it's actually published IIRC)

5:22 PM
@Someone_Evil Not sure about before the book is published, but definitely includes errata not in the errata docs

@Medix2 Such as Strahd having stats for his wolf form.

@Medix2 As do the recent printings, I think mind spike for one were updated on DDB before XGtE was (officially) erratad

2 hours later…
7:04 PM
@Rubiksmoose It also helps that I live on a 1500-acre property owned by my employer with forty homes, dozens of outbuildings, people I know, woods and hills.... Pretty ideal environment for "go poke your nose around unusual places."

@nitsua60 That it does!

@Rubiksmoose mind if I ping you on discord or in a room here?

@Rubiksmoose You have the record for most single month rep gain and Im on pace to be 30 rep short this month.

@NautArch I'm fine with either. Though I'll be 90% occupied for the next 30+ minutes. Feel free to start.
@ThomasMarkov Do I really? And that is impressive for you! Time to downvote you to hold my record.

You got 6011 rep in one month a couple years back. If I maintain my month average through the end of the month ill be at 5983

7:50 PM
@doppelgreener sadly, my course on the civil war is from 25 years ago, and I am sure I don't have my notes. Non fragmenting cannon balls cut wide swaths in formations when fired from the flank - there were reports of people seeing them skip or bounce off of the ground before they hit a comrade - but your estimation on how lethal being hit by one was is spot on. The Miene ball was for sure an improvement to accuracy and also lethality. As to the bayonet ...
... a lot of times formations broke before the bayonet charge reached the 'receiving' formation. Also, with the bayonets of that era, if it hit you in the core/abdomen, the likelihood of living through that was low since that kind of hand to hand fighting often resulted in multiple wounds, and sometimes, the trigger was pulled to get the body off of the bayonet ...
... anyhoo, that's what I can dig out of memory from that course.

8:04 PM
@ThomasMarkov What type of month? 30-day period or preset months?

@Medix2 the preset months in reputation leagues

@ThomasMarkov Now I wanna know where I am... Also where these stats come from

@Medix2 reputation leagues. You had one of the top 4 or 5 months with 5300 or so in one month

GcL
The more internet points the better /S

Now I wanna know highest daily rep ever gained... Somebody has probably gotten more than 700

8:07 PM
@Medix2 i think it was you

Oh probably that magic initiate question or whatever then

@Medix2 Yup, you got 760 rep on 8/23/19

That Bard question just makes me remember all the other bad capstones

@Medix2 i mean, the answer is just "yeah its bad, take a level of sorcerer or hexblade".

@ThomasMarkov Applies to like four of the capstones honestly :(

8:14 PM
To be fair, the bard is lready a really strong class.
giving it something like the barbarians lv 20 ability would be busted tbh.

Meanwhile Paladins and Rangers

GcL
@Medix2 At least Paladins could be an Oath of Vengence Punisher or Batman anti-hero. Rangers don't even get to be Hawkeye.... can't do surgery... no innate joking nor punning ability.

@Medix2 There've been thousand-point bounties out there, IIRC.

8:48 PM
@Medix2 I was so close I guess. I had two days one with 655 and one with 681.

STARMAS!
Did we do starmas this year!?

I...don't think so?

Starmas?

@Rubiksmoose Goodness I was a busy little bee moose when I first joined.

GcL
It's 2020. Everything good-mas has been cancelled.

9:05 PM
I think my highest was around 5200. In my defense, my competition was @Rubiksmoose, which I think is unfair.
Although I never liked the quick and dirty answer style which is easily the best way to get rep :P I'm more like the essay answer guy

@HellSaint I got pretty good at writing quick and dirty and then quickly converting to essay.

@Medix2 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I can be called many things, but terse is not one of them.
I think I once turned a 2 sentence answer into a 1000 word monster.
Something about "what is a spell"

@Rubiksmoose Yeah that's fair. But I prefer to only submit the essay form haha

GcL
Wall of Text is one of my least favorite incantations. So many semantic components.

9:11 PM
@HellSaint And that's how you let a moose steal all of those sweet sweet fake internet points.
;-)

@GcL what's next? Investiture of writing?

Agreed :P

GcL
@Rubiksmoose Yeah, and look where it got you. Now you've got a fake internet gem to go with it.

@GcL I put the diamond on top of the pile of upvotes and I sleep on them dragon-like
2

I wonder if a SEDE Wiz could work out our rep/words?

9:12 PM
From someone who consistently got to challenger/master/whatever you want to call it level in online games, I thought I would care more about the internet points in SE, but after getting all the relevant privileges I kinda stopped grinding it haha

@HellSaint yup same

yeah. I definitely stopped thirsting after rep as well lol. Though I'm still looking forward to eventually passing Nits in the all-time rankings

GcL
@HellSaint You stopped grinding and began regretting? When they tell you not to watch how sausage content is made curated, I think they mean it.

For a while I was beating Nautarch, but they are crushing it lately.

@Rubiksmoose Why specifically the sheep? HAHA

9:16 PM
The competition between us with cloven hooves is quite fierce ;-)

I realized the probable reason as soon as I wrote "sheep"

In actuality, no reason just because they are one spot ahead of me and don't really answer any more so I'll eventually glide by them lol

But then it was too late

@HellSaint hehehe

Q: Optimize a druid for debuff and healing

ArtickokeAndAnchovyPizzaMonicaI would like to play a druid (preferably circle of dreams). If possible, a wood-elf would be useful, but any race that can be tall (6ft+) is acceptable. I would be starting level two, and probably heading until level 5 or so. Multiclass is allowed, but not prefered. I would like to focus on heali...

I'm doing something something I hope doesn't annoy: picking a half-dozen of my favorite quotes from the year-in-chat and re-linking them, hoping to stir up some year-end smiles =)
cc @AncientSwordRage
Okay, so we missed it this midwinter. And it's a little too late for Summer Starstice...
Starred messages in honor of Maria Mitchell's birthday?

10:59 PM
@nitsua60 ahhhhh

@nitsua60 go for it

Arright. Next week, we celebrate Maria Mitchell day by sharing our favorite stars =)

Q: Is there an upper limit to the damage that Eldritch Smite can deal?

NathanSThe Eldritch Invocation "Eldritch Smite" says the following: Eldritch Smite Prerequisite: 5th level, Pact of the Blade feature Once per turn when you hit a creature with your pact weapon, you can expend a warlock spell slot to deal an extra 1d8 force damage to the target, plus another 1d8 per le...

(Share some day within a few of Aug 1, if the 1st isn't convenient.)

11:44 PM
@nitsua60 Thank you so much! Do you have any sense of how it would have played if you were alone?

11:54 PM
@BESW I think it would/could play as well; I'm not sure that I would have opened up/engaged with it as emotionally if I weren't doing it with my kids, talking some of the things out.
Now that I've played it at that "level," I think it will play that way forever.

Hmm. That works. One of my goals is to make it available to people who don't have a bubble that will go on walks with them.
(Or will be willing to engage with an imaginary ghost dog.)

Heck, I'm sure years from now I'll say goodbye to a grim that guards the place where my kids said hello to that grim!
Is there a grim in one of Gaiman's books?

I'd be shocked if there wasn't.
