user15026
....and now my brain is singing Cookie Day to me

Catnip Dreams would be perfect and don't get me started on Giant Kitty.

user15026
(it's mostly just singing the chorus but with "puppy day" instead of Cookie Day)

That is exactly where I got the game's name.

user15026
OMG yay

12:21 AM
Spotify doesn't have "Don't Change Color, Kitty" either.

user15026
@BESW maaaan they are missing out because that song is good too

They do have "I Want a Purple Kitty for My Birthday, Mom."
And "Sting Theory," that's a good one.

user15026
I don't know those two!

12:43 AM
And now I know that The Antitheory's "Rez Dogs" exists!

1:24 AM
Made my Obligatory chainmail dice bag! :)

1:45 AM
I've tried looking it up several times in what few books I could get a look at and online even and wiki and I cant find any reference for someone building Spawn's chains in any campaign ever. Can someone help me figure out how to do this?
D&d wiki damn spellcheck

What is a Spawn Chain?

@BradleyLindsey chain devil's chains are close
@BlackSpike spawn the comic book character

@NautArch Ah ok. Not one I know

@BlackSpike hbo did a fantastic adaptation of it as an animation

2:02 AM
@NautArch got the whole series on dvd. Love it hes one of my all time fav any fiction characters. And thanks will look it up.

2:40 AM
This question feels tailor made for me, but it's 3.5 and I rebuilt everything in 5e and it would be all wrong in 3.5. rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/164299/…

2:52 AM
Seems like it would also be tailor built to use a half chain demon rogue and call him scorpion.

@BESW puppy day?

@Ludoss AW2E has this to say:
For the most part, list things that are beyond the players' characters' control: NPCs' decisions and actions, conditions in a population or a landscape, off-screen relations between rival compounds, the instability of a window into the world's psychic maelstrom.
When you list something within the players' characters' control, always list it with an "if," implied or explicit: "IF Bish goes out into the ruins," not "Bish goes out into the ruins." Prep circumstances, pressures, developing NPC actions, not (and again, I'm not [messing] around here) NOT future scenes you intend to lead the PCs to.

@BradleyLindsey: I'd love to hear it.

@trogdor My game about adopting unusual animals.

I have this to say: When you prep broad, thinking about circumstances and pressures and developments, you're in a much better position to react to the PCs deciding to flee from the waking heartbeast in the sand wastes and take the hardhold with them than you would be if you didn't care much about the hardhold and did a deep dive prepping the heartbeast's lair.

3:13 AM
@BESW oooooooh

3:23 AM
@BESW Thanks for the link! Also, it seems like ON FIRE will never die and I'm extremely upset about that.

4:14 AM
(@NautArch I'm reading that comment on meta as just good-natured joshing--do I have you right? Or am I oblivious to some tension?)

4:26 AM
My players believe I use loaded dice. They complain that the orange d20s roll far too many 20s. (To be fair, they're right. They roll 20s all the time. It's awesome.)
So tonight I said I'd try to be nicer.
They ran into an abominable yeti in a blizzard. They created a bonfire, so I gave the yeti disadvantage on its first attack.
I rolled a pair of 19s on my orange dice.
I really love those dice =)

4:49 AM
@BESW I take it that it's theoretically easier to get into, for someone who's never played Fate? Will have to take a look later.
anyway, almost game time for me. so...
About to stream our D&D 5e actual-play podcast in less than 15 minutes: https://www.twitch.tv/bigdredwun

In a universe adjacent to our own lies a world known as Runia. This world, once peaceful and idyllic, is now threatened by a monstrous being from its prehistory. A group of adventurers known as Whiskey Company have risen up to do what they can to fight this entity known only as Nagat. They have trekked far across the mortal realms in search of the shards of Barrinoth, the Titan of Justice, in hopes of returning him to his full power.

4:59 AM
If I wasnt at work right now id definitely have to check that out.
Just out of curiosity is there already and established world I could look at where its basically a convergence point of several worlds/dimensions?

There's usually enough inter-world-ly shenanigans going on in these fantasy settings. You could just pick one and say that it's connected to many other worlds.

Hmm okay I was kind of wamting to set up a place kind of like Hulks S'kar you know dnd apocalyptic/demonic ancient rome kind of set up.

Well, if this is a D&D thing, then you could approach that in a bunch of different ways. Maybe it's a demiplane created by magic warriors, or the personal plane of a battle deity, or a material plane in a post-apocalyptic state. Or something else entirely.

5:31 AM
I like the last one. I'm thinking of making it mostly run by some deity I ran across not sure if he's official or homebrew. A halfling who doesnt care for much besides money and keeping things orderly. Loves exploiting others as long as its legal. Kinda want to turn it into a anyone or thing could end up here and no laws for the most part unless you're in the city he mainly presides over i want set up like rome with the main commodities are slaves and entertainment of various sorts.
Beings like Slanesh not sure of the spelling and various others go for their own brands of fun. Not a good place for any peaceful or goodly beings really. And in fact is cut off so the only way in is by invitation and they are vary particular about who they will allow.
The biggest draws are 1) The arena for the gladiators both slave and those wanting to kill somethjng and make some coin and loot. 2) The redlight district style area. 3) The market for items and slaves. 4). The Breeders who will breed you custom slaves for the right price.
Different cultures from many different worlds and realms are found here. Basically if youve got the coin it can be bought.

Hey, uh... It's hard to say this, but I keep seeing things that SE corporate is doing and getting more and more sad about the state and direction of SE as a whole. I really don't want to leave, because I love this community, but it seems like every time I come on there's some other reason for me to be sad. :(
I feel like I'm just whining right now, but I've left a community I loved before because of actions taken by the company who ran that game, and it sucked then and I'm sure leaving RPG.SE would suck just as much.
This site has been a daily part of my life for almost 8 years.

I know you're not alone with that feeling.

This is exactly how I was feeling when Jessica Price got summarily laid off from GW2.
I just don't want to keep feeling forced to choose between being part of a great community and not supporting a tone-deaf and harmful company. :(

I know there are some spaces being made off-site for friends made here to gather, and a lot of people are dramatically scaling back their participation in adding and curating Stack content while still sticking around in chat rooms.
And others have left.
Platforms are never our friends, though a lot of platform creators honestly think they're going to be an exception. It just takes more or less time for them to finally succumb to the pressure of scale.
The signs have always been there, with the civility-focused "Be Nice" policies and the inherently exploitative nature of "pearls not sand." And margainlized users have always been calling them out on it and being ignored by the users with the luxury of not being affected by the problems yet.
It's always been a matter of when each of us notices and the choice we make when we do. Does the good outweigh the bad yet? Can we mitigate it from within more than we prop up the harm it's causing by participating at all?
("being ignored by the users" should be "being derided by the users" but it was too late to edit.)

7:03 AM
One thing you can do to account for whatever negative effects you feel using this site may cause is to create positive effects elsewhere

7:22 AM
Thank you for your thoughts, BESW.

@DuckTapeAl I feel ya.
Can't really add to what BESW said apart from that x)

There are awesome TRPG communities elsewhere, in forums like the Gauntlet and in spaces like Discord. Some of the people here are also there, TRPG communities aren't jealously monogamous.
I found spaces I'm happy in by following people on Twitter and seeing what spaces they reference and share.

Q: Odds of rolling the same results twice on advantage rolls

PlungoI know that this has probably been answered before, but I couldn't find any specific threads on it. This happened in a tabletop game recently, where all dice rolls are rolled with advantage anyways because of how the VTT system works. So what are the odds that you get the same results twice ...

Somebody just reminded me that (although landscape is important!) community is people, not places. If you want these people to continue to gather outside the influence of this place, there are actions to take toward that goal.
Will it be the same? No, obviously. Maybe you can make it safer!

Quick question: is there a stat block for a mounted goblin, riding a wolf, perchance?

@BESW do you want it edited?

Eh, the note at the end is fine.

@DuckTapeAl It's a tough position, and not one of your making. It's one many find themselves in, and none (I think) feel they can do anything to change, only that they can respond to with a slate of unappealing options.
@BESW :thumbsup:

11:40 AM
@Ben generally, I don't know of any combined statblocks of that sort. (there might be a few.) you can always run them using the two respective statblocks. (I'm assuming D&D 5e)

@V2Blast yes. 5e
That's not a bad idea. Simple and ultimately the same thing, just two enemies with the same movement effectively

1:11 PM
@nitsua60 Definitely self-deprecating joshing. But the core is also questioning whether we are starting to encourage comments like this or not. And it seems like based on this question, that we're shifting to encouraging rather than discouraging. Which is fine and I can adjust.
It seems like it's one of those things where asking for comments should be fine but it more often than not results in debate/argument/discussion -which isn't what we previously encouraged.

1:39 PM
So either I just really poorly expressed that in my answer, or the community is asking for a change.

I think we've been previously clear that you are not entitled to an explanation from downvoters, and comments that express that kind of sentiment aren't very helpful
there's a difference between "Can anyone who downvoted tell me what's wrong with the post?" and "If you're going to downvote, you should tell me what's wrong!"

GcL
@nitsua60 Are they opaque dice?

2:32 PM
@BlackSpike pictures or it never happened. :-)

@Carcer This is different from @doppelgreener's answer to a different meta where they said "We encourage that people who simply disagree or find an answer wrong should just downvote and move on, upvote answers they do agree with, and if they have an alternative position, post their competing position in its own answer."
Encouraging asking for comments seems the opposite of that.
But maybe things have changed, and that's okay, too.
or maybe i'm misunderstanding that statement
But I think the overall concern is that just as humannature is to ask for help, it's also human nature to defend your point which isn't what we want.

@DuckTapeAl I know how you feel.

@NautArch In that sentence I'm just saying what we advise voters to do if they don't have improvements they can suggest.
Personal experience is that when someone's downvoted without comments, it's because they're simply wrong or voters simply (overwhelmingly) disagree. Nobody likes to hear that they're just wrong, though, and those kinds of situations lead to arguments. Possibly it'll be the author, possibly someone passionately defending the author's position, less often but also sometimes someone on the "you're wrong" side.

@doppelgreener Right, but given that we can't generally know how someone's going to comment or know how someone will react, but that folks often want to defend their positions, are you saying we want to encourage comments?

I would discourage folks from asking why their post's being downvoted, but I won't stop them. The mod team will be there with the fire extinguisher when it's needed.

2:38 PM
@doppelgreener I like what Novak commented under my answer to that: It's also probably best done sparingly: I ask when I get a downvote (or a bunch) that really baffle or confuse me, but if I asked on every downvote I'd come across as... I'm not sure what, exactly, but nothing good

@KorvinStarmast Great thinking.

And there's also the side situation of someone who often defends more than incorporates and what about them asking for comments if we're always encouraging? This seems like a case where the reco should be to limit problems. Sort of like making laws to prevent bad actors when most are not.

@GcL Translucent. No obvious bubbles or inclusions.

@KorvinStarmast Yup, but that's different from "It never hurts to ask" or "It's always okay to ask". Because it's kinda not.

@NautArch Saying it's okay if you want to do it isn't the same as encouraging people to do it.

2:39 PM
@NautArch It never hurts to ask is only 1/3 of my answer;

@KorvinStarmast But it's also the lede.
And I guess I"ve misinterpreted this and will change. As I said, that's okay. And maybe the querent on this is coloring my answer given their historical responses to feedback.

@NautArch It is always okay to ask. It's just unwise.

@COrrect, since that is the question
@NautArch Indeed, part of the reason for the rest of my answer is track history

@doppelgreener That's what my answer was trying tos ay. Maybe a new answer that covers that would be helpful.

It's okay for you to chug three cans of red bull, even if we'd discourage it.

2:40 PM
@KorvinStarmast Yup, and I upvoted your answer ;)

@NautArch and I yours before I decided to answer even ...

Honestly I separate the asking and the responding into two separate bins. There's a good way to ask and a bad way. There's a good way to respond and and bad way. If people are asking or responding in bad ways, that's a symptom that they are doing something wrong in their responses, not that the request itself is bad (in my mind).

My answer (I thought) was saying the similar thing. That it should be okay, but it can cause problems. And we need to be aware of that. But I guess I didn't say it well.
To me, an equivalen to asking for feedback is asking for answers in a question. Of course it's available, it doesn't seem necessary to ask for it. But again, that's just me. If others like it, want it, and respond respectfully, then it's all good.

@Rubiksmoose I agree. In saying "maybe don't do this thing" I am not saying "it is bad to do this thing" but instead "when you do this thing, often the outcome is bad." That is not a problem with the asking, but with the feedback given or with how people respond to the feedback or a great number of other things.

@NautArch I dunno, you got some support for that position; sometimes people can say something similar in a different style. I tailored my reply to the asker based in part on my desire to do a better job at brevity. I have a terrible habit of being too wordy

2:42 PM
I'll slow my roll on flagging that stuff until I see it's from a previous bad actor or if it starts to go badly.

@doppelgreener You said it much better. Agreed. :)

@NautArch good plan.

@doppelgreener Nasty stuff.

The goal is to minimise the number of all-out arguments the site has. Requesting feedback on why your answer is being downvoted is not a bad thing, but it certainly has a very good chance of generating an argument (maybe 50% as a finger-in-air estimate)

@doppelgreener BUt I still think an answer, and maybe even from a mod, along those lines would be a great addition.

2:44 PM
@doppelgreener Bingo!

@NautArch One thing I've learned is that certain people I'm just not going to give them feedback because I know it will end up with me arguing. And of course it takes 2 to argue, so I just don't.

As I think about it, I think the querent themselves probably did color my answer a bit - and that wasn't necessarily helpful.

@NautArch I think the community's handling it well so far, personally

@Rubiksmoose Yup, and I've started leaving comments and if they aren't responded to well, I just delete and add my own answer.

@doppelgreener would you mind if I added most of that in a note to my answer? I think that might be helpful.

2:45 PM
@doppelgreener As I said, just a request. Feel free to ignore.

@NautArch Yeah everything I've thought of saying has been said pretty much by other people. If I think of something value-added I may drop an answer.

@KorvinStarmast Please go right ahead with as much as you'd like.

@doppelgreener will do, thanks.

@Rubiksmoose I've got the list in my head of about a half dozen pretty active answerers I feel that way about. I'm always curious: if I shared that list with others how much would the response(s) be "oh, yeah, I have the same problem!" vs. "really!? I've never had any trouble and actually found them to be a really helpful guide early on."

I also know I'm not in a great mind-state and that's also likely contributing.

2:47 PM
@NautArch Everything okay?

@nitsua60 No, but that's life.
Escaping in here has been helpful, but also risky :)

@NautArch Anything we can do, other than provide plucky comic relief?

And honestly, the feedback on my own meta answer hasn't been great. Trlkly's comment about me saying downvotes are bad where I never actually said that confuses me.

@Someone_Evil I don't think I'm gonna update my now deleted answer to your tankard question. I honestly just do not trust in my ability to select an optimal set of magic items from a list of 2000+

@doppelgreener I added it, if you can take a peek and see if I captured the thought effectively, that would be great. I think it wilk help more than one person.

2:54 PM
Sure, I'll take a look

Debating about putting up a new answer about don't ask for feedback if you honestly aren't interesting in accepting it.

@NautArch but here's the thing though

@NautArch plent of people read things into our answers; I know I have done that at least once on this site, likely more than once.

sometimes the feedback is just genuinely bad.

@trlkly I think your first comment is missing some elements, honestly. Yes, asking for feedback can lead to good, actionable, feedback. But in my experience both as a user and an elected mod it can also be a prickly author annoyed that someone doesn't recognize their brilliance who wants to take it out on someone. You may not have run across it--which is great!--but a lot of the comments the community deletes are very argumentative and clearly not helping anyone do anything =\ — nitsua60 ♦ 28 secs ago

2:55 PM
@KorvinStarmast Added a little bit to help with the logical lead-through. I think it looks fine.

GcL
@nitsua60 Probably not weighted unevenly then. Maybe let the players roll them and see if they have the same luck?

@doppelgreener thank you! :)

GcL
@NautArch Do you need me to downvote something? I'll downvote your thing for you if that's what you need. I'm there for you like that. /S

@nitsua60 This is a thing, yeah. That whole 50% chance of generating an argument is largely because of that circumstance: the rare times someone does ask it, it's often someone frustrated their answer isn't being given the reception they feel it deserves, and they're looking to defend it and convince everyone it's great rather than to improve it.
But honestly that's usually because the reason for a score is often self-evident compared to other answers
People don't often need to be told because they discover why (other answers show them they're wrong)
Granted this isn't a self-fulfilling prophecy thing: we didn't develop this guideline because of that statistic, we developed it because we saw that those things were frequently useless or started arguments. So we discouraged people from doing it. That exacerbates the statistics, but the root cause is still there: "why am I getting downvoted?" very often leads to arguments.

3:12 PM
@doppelgreener Maybe i'm being obtuse, but it seems like we're saying two things (and maybe we are!) We're saying, it's always okay to ask and we're also saying asking often leads to arguments which we don't like (and why we've encouraged not requiring or even possibly asking.)

@NautArch three things: it's okay to ask, it regularly leads to arguments, we discourage asking
3

So I guess it is two things and just means the community has to keep a watchful eye.
@doppelgreener Yeah, I agree with that. It goes back to the problem isn't asking, the problem is in the response to feedback.

that's usually where the argument arises, yeah
and i've seen cases where the author asks for feedback, someone else provides it, the author's cool with the feedback, but someone else isn't and comes in swinging.

I've definitely been guilty of that. But I've been trying to stop (successfully?)

@NautArch no. [handcuffs, leads away to the police car]
i'm kidding, i don't really know tbh

3:16 PM
@doppelgreener like a wreeeeeeecking baaaaaaaall

@Yuuki LEEEEEERRROOOYYYYYY JEEEEENNNNKKIINNNNSSSSS!!!!!

@JohnP lol, i heard that in leeroy's voice

@doppelgreener hehehe :D

i used to be way, way more plugged into the overall goings-on of RPG.SE and SE generally, but that hasn't been very true since sometime in 2018.

Q: Can I use a beast's weapon attacks while polymorphed?

RagingGoatsSo I'm reading over the spell as I'm progressing through DnD, and I realized you can polymorph into a Tyrannosaurus Rex if you're of 8th level or beyond. In the PHB, it says: The new form can be any beast whose challenge rating is equal to or less than the target’s (or the target’s level, if ...

@doppelgreener it's almost like being a mod means not being active :(
your duties take you away from the very thing you wanted to be involved in

@NautArch The Colonel has a different role than the Corporal ... and I think doppel and the other mods do a pretty nice job of the exception handler role ... but that's my opinion.

100%.

@NautArch And that's one of the discussion points in any mod election, really. How do you handle the jump from being a participant with an equal voice to wielding the hammer of thundercloses? etc.

@JohnP and that's why they call you John "the Hammer" P ... right? 8^D

@KorvinStarmast That's really only acceptable because I make allowances for you being prior Navy. :p

Q: How does the Sleep spell work?

Maxime CuillerierI just started playing AD&D 1E, and I am trying to understand how the Sleep spell works. I'm confused by the table and the DM's advice: HD/ Number Affected up to 1/ 4d4 1+1 to 2/ 2d4 2+1 to 3/ 1d4 3+1 to 4/ 1d2 4+1 to 4+4/ 1d2-1 DM's Advice: In a ...

@NautArch i did scale back some of my involvement as i became a mod (because now a lot of energy was being used on other things) but i didn't scale back this way until I had to start also dealing with transphobia inside the mod community. which other trans mods had been dealing with more than me and for longer than me.
that burned me out and had me scale back drastically how much I wanted to be involved in a community that wasn't protecting us
in the former case, total energy invested remained consistent but its allocation changed (and some of it was no longer visible, like just regularly handling flags). in the latter case, total energy invested majorly decreased.

@MikeQ Yes, but you get to see ALL the spam!

@nitsua60 i suspect that's not in conflict with what he said lol

@Carcer He was a laughable little guy

@NautArch Thank you. And I think I speak for @doppelgreener and @Rubiksmoose and @V2Blast when I say that the stall-mucking part of the job's made much easier by the active and caring community moderation around here. You-all take care of a lot of things by yourself, you set great examples and use your words to explain things, you listen to new people and remember your own frustrating experiences, and provide very useful guidance and feedback to us. High fives all around!

@nitsua60 absolutely agree

^^ !00% agree

@nitsua60 I honestly think that RPG.SE is the best site on the network. Chat is active and friendly, the users give a lot of great guidance, and we have (thankfully) very few to no trolls/problem users.
3
Oh hey, I have newly vested stock options. Cool. Oh, the stock is ~$60 below the grant price at the moment? Not so cool.

4:58 PM
@JohnP I appreciate you saying that. (I also appreciate that there are people used to other parts of the network who think we're all control freaks and fascists, can't we just relax it's a frikkin' game we're talking about!? I often struggle to reconcile the pulls in those two directions.)

5:09 PM
Speaking of being a control freak, what do y'all think about this question?

@NautArch Maybe if the question focused on the implementation and the resulting experience that DM's have had, rather than advantages/disadvantages? A lot of advantage/disadvantage kind of things devolve into "Yeah, but X and Y" "Well, yeah, but Q and Z"

@JohnP What about the question being a duplicate?
It feels more like a discussion prompt, but it (the original question) might be able to worded to allow good subjective answers. But for me, it really seems like a duplicate that osmeone else tried to re-ask to get around the initial closure.

it shouldn't exist but the fundamental question is stackable and the original should have been workshopped

That ^^

SO what do we do? Try and workshop this one and then close the other as a dupe of this?

5:16 PM
@NautArch Hrm... might be worth a mod check to see if there is crossover between the accounts?
We get that a lot on fitness, people creating second accounts to upvote poorly received questions trying to get answers.

Burn them all ! (Sorry, was channeling Lord Denethor there. I'll see myself out)

@nitsua60 Almost every site gets people who think they're too controlling about what questions they allow. It means the site is doing well enough that these people care enough to try to argue that on the site instead of going somewhere else ;)

@ACuriousMind I have found that kind of thing rather common at Christianity.SE. Lot's of push back on the boundaries that the community set after three hard years of figuring out how to make it fit the SE model.

@JohnP This almost seems like OP wanted to put an answer up on the original, but couldn't because it was closed so reasked and self-answered so they could post it.

Could be right. I didn't read them really thoroughly, I'm working through the inception copy process to get some files out of an old cluster in our datacenter.
VM->VM->VM in another cluster->my jumpbox->my linux jumpbox->my actual desktop->shared folder destination.

5:26 PM
@JohnP Based on one of their comments, i'm pretty sure this is what happened. Honorable intentions, wrong process.
@nitsua60 Weird, just noticed that trklky isn't a member of our community.

5:48 PM
@NautArch who?

@Rubiksmoose The commenter on my meta answer
trlkly
through an extra k in originally, my bad

@NautArch I closed that question earlier as a duplicate because it was literally a copy-paste and I felt it was asked for no reason other than to add their own answer to the then closed question

@Medix2 Yeah, it's history is odd. It definitely should be taken to meta to resolve if OP is interested.

@NautArch ahhh. [digs] It looks like they are to me though. "Joined 5 years, 6 months ago"

@KorvinStarmast Here ya go:

5:50 PM
great work :D

@Rubiksmoose weird, didn't see that at first. BUt they did answer a stack question 2ish years ago.

@BlackSpike Nice!

@BlackSpike that looks dangerously close to dice falling out
but no one gonna stick a dagger in it to hurt them!

Thanks!
@NautArch Dice can be sensitive things. If they know I'm looking after them, they will look after me :)

5:56 PM
@BlackSpike ah, much safer! Super cool!
especially if you put it in the fridge first!

haha

I just hope the dice don't get scratched up

My 1st attempt.
@Medix2 That is a fear :( as I'm a novice, the rings are not all as well closed as I would like

Wait you made that? :O

@Medix2 yup!
We're making a Witcher cosplay, so I have to learn chainmail! :O
And it is The Law that if you do chainmail, ya have to make a dice bag!

6:02 PM
@BlackSpike You'd get bonus points for replacing the string with leather...

@JohnP Indeed so. But I don't have any leather here :( Will get some this weekend :)

@BlackSpike I should find the leather dice bag I made. I made that about the same time I made my boots, so...2003? 4? ish

@BlackSpike awesomeness is awesome. Which gage of spring steel did you settle on?

Should this question be edited to remove the full text of the spell? This spell is only available in a supplement that must be purchased, whether online or in paper: rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/164377/…

@G.Moylan yeah, i'd remove it. If answerers want to include relevant sections, they can.

6:08 PM
OK I'll edit

@KorvinStarmast That one is 1.63mm steel (14ga AWG, 16ga SWG). 8.4 mm internal diameter

8.4 mm is about a third of an inch ... nice tight links ...

Might look into making our own rings, if we decide to make a LOT more things :)

@KorvinStarmast ... are you talking about hot sausages?

mmmmm sausages

6:17 PM
There's a german sausage place near here that's quite tasty that I used to like going to for lunch, but they're kindof expensive so I don't go anymore :(
They make a Kasewurst that's incredible
Another question: This question (same as the one before) is currently marked as closed because it's too broad and it's asking for some pretty open-ended stuff. However, OP has accepted an answer that, in addition to their edits, seems to clarify the intent of their original question. Since OP hs accepted an answer, it seems unlikely that they will feel a need to edit their question to meet stack guidelines. Does that mean we should edit the question to fit the implicit ask?
or just leave it and let it be deleted?
I'm jus tnot sure what to do here since it has an accepted answer

@G.Moylan hmm. My gut says maybe make an edit for stackable-ness that works with the answer. SOmething like "How does encode thoughts work?" with more detail on "I don't understand how this spell works. WHat is it actually doing?"

6:35 PM
@Ash - You still around?

GcL
@NautArch Retcon the question to fit the answer?

@GcL That's what I'm thinking. They didn't know what to ask, but when an answer resolved it and they said that's waht they wanted it seems reasonable to back their question into it.
I'm generally not a fan of wholesale rewrites like that, though. But other stackizens are.

GcL
Just leave it as closed. They got lucky someone answered quickly with a use that they liked.
My vote would be to leave it or delete it wholesale. Probably leave it since it's less work.
@NautArch You could rewrite the entire question as "I don't really understand what this spell actually does. Can someone explain it with an example use case or two to illustrate what it's supposed to do?"

@GcL that's probably okay, too. Similar to mine but keeping more of the original.
/shrug

@GcL Is it worth that much effort?

GcL
6:42 PM
@JohnP Nope. Not my effort at least.

OP is clearly interested in being more involved here, though. Helping them understand what a better way to ask these types of things would be good. But yeah, not worth my current effort level.

GcL
The "nopes" have it.

Should I have an answered this question? It seems very idea-generationy. I tried to avoid it, but they're starting to come in...

@GcL yeah, my "give a damn" meter is pegged pretty high today. Tired, work stress and on the edge of getting sick. I just want to crawl in bed and read through the Firefly core book.

GcL
@NautArch perhaps too broad? It's a specific problem, but does invite idea generation type answers.

6:47 PM
@NautArch It's an interesting scenario, in that the question (probably) should be closed/narrowed, but at the same time the answers will could provide value on the site...

I posted a comment, but may have to be closed as opinion-based unless the answers gets better.

GcL
It's a specific case of, "how do I give my players information?" which has correct answers in the general form of a neon sledgehammer.

user Joe has an interesting answer that seems to be substantiated
still a lot of idea gen though

@G.Moylan Joe is definitely the closest. But i'm not sure i understand the player vs character because the DM is always talking to the players. Just sometimes through the lens of NPCs and othertimes not (like when describing things.)
but it's a close enough pairing that i'm not sure about upvoting it yet.
bah, it gets one.

GcL
I think the question would be stackable if it asked for examples where something similar has been done in published adventures.
It's a much better question for reddit

user15026
6:54 PM
@JohnP I am now (sorry, was on lunch)

@Ash No worries, I think I found the answer in arqade meta. Was going to ask how you got youtube embedding enabled for the site. I ended up pinging Catija.

user15026
@JohnP I think we asked nicely somewhere :P

@Ash nicely. dernit, it's always something...

@Ash And carried a big hug cannon stick.

user15026
@Yuuki grins that too!

6:57 PM
Anyone else crave salsa when they get sick?

user15026
Nah, for me it's always stuff like chicken nuggets and other kid food.

> Part 2 of the 2020 Unearthed Arcana article "Subclasses" is here! We present 3 new subclasses for you to read and playtest: - College of Creation for the bard - Unity Domain for the cleric - Clockwork Soul for the sorcerer You can find it all here: dnd.wizards.com/articles/unearthed-arcana/subclasses_part2 #DnD — twitter.com/JeremyECrawford/status/1225491197831139329

Two puns I've never heard before, and for me, that's kind of surprising.

@Xirema It's a shame that Sorcerer subclass 18th-level feature doesn't allow you to attack with the summoned spirits. It'd give a whole new meaning to "clocking someone in the face".

7:18 PM
@Yuuki lol
I like the Cleric and Sorcerer subclasses, although the Cleric subclass seems problematic from a balancing perspective.

7:42 PM
What am I missing, that this question is essentially a reask of their other question rather definitively answered by kryan?

@JohnP and kryan's answer implies there are other questions that I don't see in their history
Although, the new question is different than the old question.

"Does X do Y?"
vs
"How can I achieve Y?"

I think it's still answered by the same thing.
> No matter what you would like to believe, the ranged attack augmentation is not a weapon, and does not count as a weapon under any circumstances or for any purposes, including the augmented weapon customization. Moreover, this was very much the author’s intention; I have asked him this question personally. He never intended for the ranged attack to ever be more than an extremely minor damage ping to be used only in the event that closing to melee was completely impossible.
Doesn't matter if it's crystal, ray, or whatever according to that, which would answer the new question.

Yea, but is there ANY way to increase the damage?

7:58 PM
@goodguy5 Not that I can see, and there is nothing in his quotes that indicated that the ranged attack is anything but the crystal.
> Ranged Attack The aegis gains the ability to propel a non-psionic crystal,
> Energy Blast The ranged attack gained from the ranged attack customization becomes imbued with psionic energy. The attack is now treated as a ranged touch attack and instead deals 1d6 points of damage of your active energy type
Still an imbued crystal, the only thing that changes is the damage type.

8:09 PM
I mean, are there ways to blanket increase the damage you do? Like with an ioun stone?

@goodguy5 Dam age naturally increases with time.

:O

GcL
@Xirema I like the unity cleric share the burden. Essentially a class feature to make potions and spells of resistance more useful. "Distribute the damage taken between the original target and the chosen creatures. Each creature must take at least 1 damage. Apply any damage resistance or vulnerability of thecreatures involved after you distribute the damage."

One thing I do miss like about Pathfinder was the ability to stack subclasses/archetypes if the features they replaced/changed didn't collide.

GcL
Although the clockwork sorcerer that gets heat metal... oof. That spell is nasty enough without metamagic being applicable.

8:17 PM
@Yuuki I mean, technically you're still allowed to do that, but all of the features collide

@GcL This is why I honestly don't even look at UA anymore.
And it seems like the newer stuff is much worse than the older UA.

GcL
@NautArch I haven't since the Mystic. One of my players has loved psionics since AD&D, and I've pretty much always hated it.

@GcL I'd downvote their UA as not ready for review :P

GcL
The nomad mystic was hella broken. Proficiency in every tool and ability to speak and read every language.

@GcL same!
Always bugged me

GcL
8:19 PM
Yeah. It just never interacted with magic very well. E.g. tower of iron will always topped any psionics... which made it a must have for smashing squid faced brain eaters.
On the other hand, psionic force stuff usually were unaffected by magical defenses or it was totally ambiguous at best.
Like, psionic telekinesis vs magic telekinesis as the classic tug of war.
What's the school of magic that wizards can take that gives them a personal damage shield?

@GcL Abjuration?

GcL
@JohnP Yeah! That's the ticket. The UA clockwork sorc basically gets the same thing.... except it can put that around anyone.

I like Rolemaster's Magic 'realms'
Channelling = Divine Magic
Essence = "Wizards"
Mentalism = Psionics/Force of Will

GcL
@BlackSpike What are the rules when they intersect?

@GcL 13th level monks the get latter of those

8:26 PM
@GcL They all basically work the same, mechanically, but each Realm (and each Class from each realm) gets diffrent Spells

GcL
@Someone_Evil I think they can understand all spoken languages. They don't get to read it, and they don't get to speak the language.
They get the babble fish.

@GcL well, that seems totally balanced.

GcL
@BlackSpike Gotcha. In Ars Magica, divine beats the magic realm most of the time.

Not read, but anything that can understand a language understands them, which is quite close

GcL
@NautArch Yeah and it steps on the abjuration wizard's unique thing.

8:28 PM
there's also the 3rd level spell tongues which does this

@GcL Babel. As in Tower of.

Mentalsim tends to do "Self" spells (self-buffs, self-healing, sense-enhancement).
Channelling does healing and Divination
Essence does Elemental control and other Manipulations

need one more vote to reopen this

@NautArch dun

@JohnP grazie. who wants to copypasta the answer from the minor conjuration question? :P

8:37 PM
@NautArch You don't mind me cribbing your answer? I could use the rep on the climb to 10k.

@JohnP hahaha. i didn't even scroll down to notice itw as my answer:P

eh, go ahead. I don't have the knowledge to substantiate it if challenged at all.

ugh, yeah. gimme a sec.

@GcL To be fair, it's not that difficult for a Sorcerer to gain access to Heat Metal. They just need the Izzet background to get it.

@Xirema If their table allows that background.

GcL
8:44 PM
@Xirema Backgrounds granting spells?
What is that background from?

@GcL Guildmasters Guide to Ravnica
Also, 3 levels of Bard would get them there, since it's a Bard spell.

GcL
Bards don't get metamagic
Also, you're already taking the penalty of being the bard.

@GcL I mean through multiclassing.

GcL
@Xirema Even worse. Then you're taking a multi classing hit AND you're the bard.

@GcL heynow. Be Nice to bards.

GcL
8:48 PM
@Xirema That's a heck of a thing for a background to grant spells. Do all of them in that material grant neat stuff on par with added spells?

and bards are awesome.

@GcL All of the GGR backgrounds add spells to your spell list(s) for any spellcasting classes you have.

As far as I'm considered, Ravnica doesn't exist in D&D.

GcL
@NautArch At least that's what they claim in all their songs
@NautArch Seems like a crossover.

Anyone know if AL actually bans the GGR backgrounds? Because I know it definitely allows the book as your +1 if you so choose.

GcL
8:50 PM
Does the book have mana and can you tap lands?
What if they're really attractive lands? Asking for a ... druid friend.

@GcL i'm gonna tap that land...oooh baby

@Xirema I can't see anywhere in the 9.0 player's guide that does
