Q: Does the Giant Toad's Swallow acid damage take effect only at the start of its next turn?

StackLloydWhile I was reading through the Giant Toad's entry in the Monster Manual (p. 329), I found this passage a bit unclear: Swallow. The toad makes a bite attack against a Medium or smaller target it is grappling. If the attack hits, the target is swallowed and [...] it takes 3d6 acid damage at th...

@HotRPGQuestions Gentlemen, I'm glad we are in agreement

6:23 PM
@Rubiksmoose Did you just move a comment thread to a chat and then supply a new comment outside of the chat? :D

So I've got a problem in my campaign. I accidentally made the Young Green Dragon that the party encountered (and thankfully did not fight) breathe acid instead of poison gas. How do I unravel this snarl in my worldbuilding??

Own up to it? "I messed up, it should have been poison. Lets just move on."

@NautArch indeed I did! But I'm also ok with others doing that... if the comments are suggesting improvements and not carrying on a discussion or argument.
And of course if you decide to keep commenting or chatting outside of an already created chat, there's no where those comments can be moved to so they simply get deleted. She we can't move comments to chat more than once.

@Rubiksmoose Heh. I just always look at those chats as where I should continue to comment rather than ignoring the request to move elsewhere. but I guess that's on me.

Well, I should point out that's IMO. Different mods have different ideas and lines about this.
Generally I don't do it and when I do is something that's directly actionable and likely to be acted on and self-removed shortly after. I'd say it's usually a pretty good idea to stick to the chat if you want your comment to stick around :)

6:33 PM
@Rubiksmoose please tell me you meant 'stick' not 'suck'

I choose to believe he meant "suck" cus it's funnier

yeah, i'm gonna go with suck
i also had the opposite answer to the imp question almost fully written before I realized i was wrong :)

lol. that's happened to me

6:48 PM
yea. I'd realized that I'd misread the title after writing the entire thing up

is this question only answerable by anna b meyers?

how oddly specific

@Someone_Evil hahaha I did indeed. (Fixed)

@Rubiksmoose Those editing rights of yours are no fair!

Agreed!

7:01 PM
@NautArch I was looking at the druid grove spell as a possible answer, but I'm not sure it is one

@Someone_Evil yeah, that was my thought to. SOmeone created ap ermanent version of the spell.
but it's not clear that's what she did.

I think the real answer is that there is no stated description of a druid's grove (outside the spell), its left up to the DM to decide based on what they need for their story/world. But I've left on answer to that tune already today and am on rep cap, so it's good that others are answering this as I am writing

@Someone_Evil yeah, same :)

The only hard-and-fast rule about a druid's grove is that they're created by a druid's grover.

@Someone_Evil i glossed over the bit about permanence. I think that's what it is (guildbounty's answer.)

7:13 PM
They're blue furry creatures with a penchant for arm-waving.

I am wary abou tthe full text being written out for something that's behind a paywall, though.

1 hour later…
8:21 PM
@NautArch That is a valid concern. I just added an answer with info from 3.5 and 2e, we'll see if the OP is open to that info or not.

@Yuuki boooooo
New UA with Aberrant Mind sorcerous origin, Lurker in the Deep warlock patron, and the new cantrip *mind sliver*: https://dnd.wizards.com/articles/unearthed-arcana/sorcerer-and-warlock

There's also a link to the barbarian/monk UA feedback survey from there.

@V2Blast Always nice when they tease the possibility of finally giving Sorcerers Origin Spells before they inevitably remove them once it's ready for putting in a Sourcebook.
Mind Sliver seems like it could be very powerful under the right circumstances.

@V2Blast More OP/sloppy UA. Gee, there is a surprise.

8:38 PM
@V2Blast Make an Aberrant Mind sorcerer whose give-away is sweaty handshakes.

@Yuuki ew. about the only thing worse than a sweaty handshake (outside of an environment where that would be expected) is the dead fish limp handshake.

@JohnP Why not both?

Q: Does the Giant Toad's Swallow also inflict its Bite damage?

StackLloydAfter asking this question for clarifications on how the acid damage dealt by the toad's Swallow works, I realised I need another explanation about this attack. A Giant Toad can make a Swallow attack on a creature it has grappled, as follows: Swallow. The toad makes a bite attack against a Me...

@Yuuki sweaty dead fish handshake? I may upchuck slightly.

@KorvinStarmast I mean, all of those Sorcerer features are definitely getting nerfed if they ever make their way to official printing, so being a bit OP at this stage is just them raising our hopes so they can dash them against the rocks that much harder.

8:42 PM
@JohnP yeah, those are sorta creepy

@JohnP Hey, sounds like there's an Aberrant Mind Sorcerer hanging around.

@Xirema yeah. What I am hoping for is that the work they are doing on psionics will eventually pay off. :-)

The 1st-level features are all "here's free spells".

@KorvinStarmast True creepy is the dolls my wife has. They are basically life sized/weight baby dolls that she uses when teaching how to do baby wearing wraps/carriers. I fully expect to find one standing over me with a knife some night...

Full stop, I think all Sorcerer subclasses should be getting free spells associated with their origin. Even if it's only one per spell level. Just give them something to distinguish themselves.

8:45 PM
That's not quite what I meant. Invasive Thoughts and Warped Being are just telepathic bond and mage armor.
I do agree that bonus spells based on origin would be good.

@Xirema yes. Agree.

@Xirema Maybe funky haircuts?

@JohnP And sweaty dead fish handshakes.

@Yuuki Would that be an Ocean origin sorcerer?

Now you know why the new Aquaman is a surfer dude. Fist-bumps will hide his true nature.

8:55 PM
@Yuuki except for the kelplocks.
what's the rules on linking to outside sources (paizo forums) in comments?

In comments?
hmm

@KorvinStarmast Easier to nerf a strong thing than make a weak thing better. Definitely something people need to give feedback on in the next UA survey

Eh, comments are ephemeral anyway. I linked it, the PTB can delete it if it is a transgression of some sort.

what do I need to delete
:P
As long as it doesn't clearly try to answer the question, it's fine as a comment, but may be deleted in the future.
If it does clearly try to answer the question, it should be an answer.

@V2Blast There is no answer, the thread is pretty evenly split between "Nah, can't do it" and "DM decision".

9:09 PM
ah

Actually probably more in favor of DM decision, but there isn't a clear consensus.

probably fine, then

@V2Blast I usually do

9:33 PM
PSA: when grilling fish, do not use an aerosol based oil to reoil the grill when flipping them over. That is all.

@JohnP ...I am concerned

9:47 PM

@JohnP Flame broiled flounder. What's not to like! :)

10:14 PM
@JohnP I think I solved this puzzle

Q: Can you create water inside someone's mouth?

iaminsensibleWe just finished the latest session and one of my characters gain access to the spell Create & Destroy Water. The Create and Destroy Water spell says: You create up to 10 gallons of clean water within range in an open container. Is an open mouth considered an open container or are there oth...

Q: Balm of the Summer Court fey energy dice usage limits

DerkIf I'm a level 5 druid (Circle of Dreams, from Xanathar's Guide to Everything). Am I limited to using two fey energy dice for my Balm of the Summer Court feature before having to take a long rest to use it again?
