i'm gonna steal that
also due to CHA scores literally every character I play would be better at speaking than I am
I don't think I've played a character with a CHA lower than 18 due to my choice of class and my rolls

@Himitsu_no_Yami TTRPGs let people enjoy the power fantasy of having good social skills
But yeah, it should be fine to say that since you're new to roleplaying, you'd be more comfortable describing character actions rather than word-for-word dialogue

Also the people in my group tend to like it in a way that (to use your example) where I'd be like "I sidle up to the dwarven prince and say Hey, does that beard go all the way down?"
The one thing I have going for me is that we're an (extremely) small group usually
like there's 3 of us total, counting the DM (who also has a PC of his own)
@MikeQ I can understand that but (possibly due to having social anxiety IRL) I always find myself scared I'm gonna say something stupid

@MikeQ A lot of my friends use the detached narrative forms a lot despite having been roleplaying for many years. It's not training wheels, it's just a style.

@BESW Oh for sure. But many groups and players don't acknowledge other playstyles, so perhaps an explanation would help them accept it better.

True.
I'd just be careful about hedging it so much that they don't come to accept it as an ongoing thing and are constantly waiting for Himi to "outgrow" the style.

10:13 PM
I've been trying to just go with the style they've been expecting and it worked for one campaign but i just don't feel like I know what I'm doing

@Himitsu_no_Yami As for "do"s and "don't"s, it usually boils down to respecting the group's social contract. Everyone has different preconceptions, so it helps to discuss & ask about the expectations and what is/isn't ok. Common examples: no antagonizing players, no stealing, no starting PVP in a co-op game.

hey there btw @Glazius

"How did this D&D Beyond article get into my feeds? I thought I'd culled D&D from my life entirely--oh, it's by DC. Carry on then."

Morning all
Bought my first pair of connies last night :D

You bought... a pair of pizzas?

10:28 PM
(frantically searches Australian slang dictionaries) You bought train conductors?

Ben
Ah yes. I keep forgetting I live in a strange land
Converse. The shoes haha

whee, palindromic reputation again

Another way to get palindromic reputation is by getting suspended and having 1 reputation #LifeHack

Ben
@MikeQ Well that took a turn
Ok. That makes more sense haha

I don't think it's possible to have 0 rep, so 1 would be the most reliable palindrome to achieve

Ben
10:41 PM
Or you could create accounts on new sites. 101, or 1 rep.

And earning a suspension would be faster than getting thousands of downvotes

Q: How would I as a DM create a smart phone-like spell/device my players could use

J.PerrySo my players are setting up a large nexus of guilds from my empire and 1 or 2 they made up themselves across several cities. They are having a hard time sending long messages to and from each other, and hiring a mage is not an option so how would you guys/gals set up a multi-use system to send...

Ben
@HotRPGQuestions I like this question.

user15026
@BESW ...how did you get pizza out of that?

user15026
(I love how many ways people can interpret words, I am so curious.)

Ben
@Ash Maybe its a pizza place?

Ben
11:04 PM
My search came up with a shoe repair place haha
So, close...

Q: Where is the rule for moving slowly when searching for traps that’s referenced by Dungeon Delver?

JohnPI'm having trouble finding the rule for one of the bulleted items for the Dungeon Delver feat: You can search for traps while traveling at a normal pace, instead of only at a slow pace. I can't find anything that talks about searching at a slow pace. In which book is this referenced?

@HotRPGQuestions ah the wonderous glories of too much material
