@ravery the French fries thing I knew already but yeah XD
It's interesting how many things we name after different cultures when either they didn't invent it or the version we have is changed

@trogdor Typically, it is because the American diet is centered on beef and wheat while others have less meat. So, we alter the dishes.

11:18 PM
@ravery Mmmm... beef.

@ravery yeaaaah I cut down my beef consumption a lit because there has already been waaaay too much of that
The American diet is alarmingly full of dead cows

@trogdor Beans and corn make a complete protein, and excellent supplement for a lower meat consumption

I do love Corn a lot
And I have no problem with beans at least on occasion

but you have to have beans with corn, neither one alone has all the proteins that the human body can not produce. Only meat has all of them. But by mixing veggies you can get them all.
if you mix them correctly
This is why most vegetarians will eat fish and dairy products ... they don't want to do the research necessary to design a healthy diet based entirely on vegetables.

11:42 PM
I don't think most vegetarians eat fish, because fish isn't vegetarian...
But yes, many vegetarians are not vegan.

I think there are definitely people who don't eat other meat but do eat fish
Pescatarians I think? Unless that's the opposite

Most vegetarians, eat some meat though infrequently, this is why vegan began ... because the vegetarians were being truly vegetarian.

Ah yeah seems like pescatarian is right

*were not being

Yeah it's a whole weird language/correctness thing
I feel like at some point we made too many labels for it

11:47 PM
@V2Blast When vegetarianism started, they often had poor diets and low energy which was fixed by eating meat, so most cheated. This was caused by the movement not researching dietary needs.

I mean... Large parts of India have been vegetarian for, like, centuries

"Oh, meat is bad" withoout finding out what it supplies for the human body

It's not a recent movement

@ravery -- the bigger issue for vegans isn't completing protein, it's getting B12

@V2Blast I mean in the US. Many poor countries have traditional low.no meat diets... veted out through generations

11:49 PM
Sure, but the US isn't most vegetarians. India has more vegetarians than the entire rest of the world put together.
I think it's primarily lacto-vegetarianism
No meat or eggs, generally speaking

@V2Blast true, I was speaking in terms of US vegetarians.

@V2Blast yeah, milk or fermented plant products (things like tempeh and such)

One of the problems with "vegan" is that it's used interchangeably to describe a dietary choice, or the same dietary choice but specifying a particular ethical justification for the choice.
@ravery I know folks who became vegetarian in the 70s, and many segments of the vegetarian community were obsessed with nutritional research--unfortunately a lot of the research was flat-out wrong.
