@NautArch What's wrong with their answers?

@Grosscol Consistently downvoted
I think it has more to do with their formatting and ability to explain them than their actual responses.

They seem generally to just have... too much content, almost?

@Delioth that's part of it, but the content is just kind of dumped there. I think that's more of the issue. I just don't know if there's a way to help them. Or if they just don't care and they're fine with the downvotes.

Is there a way to see the votes applied before/after each edit?

Not necessarily bad, just lots of bullet points and extra assumptions that aren't really answering the question, but discussing tangents

5:06 PM
@Delioth exactly!

Some of the initial answers the user gives are non-answers or non-useful. The subsequent edits make them better, but I don't know when the down votes are occurring in relation to the edits.
@NautArch Did they ask for help with writing better answers?

I don't know if advice to "try and stay succinct, avoiding tangents" would help - there's a lot of rambling/tangents I see in their answers

@Grosscol they have not. That's why i'm not sure there's a path to help (or a need to.)
I had put a comment in on another answer giving them direction and that may be the most I can do. Up to them now/.

:47694243 what specifically is the rpg you are playing?
Ohp...

5:25 PM
@Grosscol I updated my answer how does that look?

@Rubiksmoose great. very comprehensive.

@Grosscol Thanks :)

@nitsua60 I have nommed the Troll/Stirge eating question for cheese honors in Meta. Please visit at your leisure.
@WendyG hi, did you drop by to get some ideas for the Pratchett witch?

Q: What to do when the answers complement each other?

KuertenSo, I have asked this question here. It currently has two answers, but none of them is complete (in my opinion). The first lacks the citation of cover as AC bonus, and the second answer last paragraph is wrong, as people have pointed out. Following the suggestions of the answer of this question...

D&D 5e. Does the Hunting Trap is the typical bear trap of metal or is a wooden cage with a spike inside and a string to activate it? How much does it cost? I can't find the price.

Where are you looking that you can see the hunting trap but not the description or how much it costs?
(5gp, saw-toothed steel ring.)

@EnderLook Sounds like a good stack question, but here is the answer anyway: It's on page 152 of the PHB, it's a steel saw-toothed ring (a bear trap), it costs 5gp

@GreySage Asked on the stack, it'd get downvoted like crazy.

@Miniman If it included "Here's where I looked, what I found, and why I'm still confused," it'd probably be fine.

@BESW Absolutely! That's why I asked where he had looked.

11:08 PM
@GreySage Thanks

11:21 PM
:47699850 I was about to ask, did you mean to post your directory structure there?

@GreySage Nope, that was the wrong "link" in IE, gaaaaaaaaaaaah.
@EnderLook here it is

I find linking to D&D Beyond rules easiest: Adventuring Gear, though you do need to scroll past the table of prices to see the item descriptions
Oh... they even have pages for each item

@PeterCooperJr. WoTC just compiled the Basic Rules into one pdf; when I include page numbers in the address the page is what opens in most browsers

I'm glad I looked. I hadn't realized they had pages for mundane items as well as magical.
Oh yes, I see advantages in citing the basic rules PDF too.

@PeterCooperJr. Personal annoyance with D&D beyond is that they want me to pay for the same book twice. :p I get the hardcovers.

11:26 PM
Oh, yes. I only use D&D Beyond for Basic Rules stuff. I similarly prefer only paying for products once.

@KorvinStarmast That is one of the reasons I hate iTunes too.

Bits & Mortar is so great.

@KorvinStarmast Yes, I know. I accidentally looked in Roll20 wiki instead of PH and there it wasn't so I thought it wouldn't be in PH either.

@KorvinStarmast makes three of us

Someone know what is the difference in usage between these kind of notes?
The green one is used in the book for variant rules, non-important explanations (like how each race relation with each other) and some explainings (magic schools, why mages can't use armor, etc). The white I only seen it in the firsts pages of the spanish basic guide for quotes or fictional converstations Player-DM... haven't they more usages?
