@lila What is Salmiakk? I know "moi" in Finnish. And speaking of finnish:
@C.Koca Hahahaha we did a full circle there :D
@lila ahahahahah :)
@C.Koca It is how they call ammonium chloride, ammonium chloride is a salt that is not salty like sodium chloride (table salt) but has a flavor I cannot describe with words; in general most people consider it quite repulsive and disgusting as far as I understand, and ammonium chloride is added to a type of liquorice (a candy type) that is national Finnish treat, but non-Finnish people joke that this is the type of candy you buy for the kids you hate :D
@lila Like the repulsive dutch candies?
@C.Koca I know the taste of liquorice, but it is not the same as the taste of ammonium chloride, I do not really know how to describe it because I have never consciously tasted it; on the other hand, I have tasted ammonium bicarbonate (it is used as leavening agent in baking, also called baker's ammonia, but I actually used it to prime the nitrogen cycle of my aquarium) and ammonium bicarbonate has strong and repulsive taste; not like ...
...disgusting, but unnatural and corrosive - like a salt that is a few times more salty than actual salt, and mixed with a hint of some off-tasting sugar, and some bitterness as well.
@C.Koca I have never heard of candles like this but this sounds interesting, I must websearch :D
@C.Koca no clear results, tell me more tell me more please
00:21
They must be the same thing :)
btw, the new house I am moving into has an aquarium
I wonder the kinds of fish there is
@lila Btw, I reached aquarium because you mentioned the chemicals for aquarium :)
Never tasted any of them, at least knowingly
@C.Koca Wow thanks, I just realized that I am really not that bright; I searched for CANDLES instead of CANDIES :/ :/ :/ and yes, those are exactly what I meant, dark or even pitch-black candies with taste most people describe as repulsive :D
but I do not know why they are Dutch, but on the other hand it is not like Finland has a monopoly on producing those
@lila never had finnish candies, so it might be either way :)
@lila It is late :)
@C.Koca Woow that's mega nice and I am sure Sonny would wonder too if you could explain him with words :D
@C.Koca I guessed so ^.^ do you know how big it is? volume, length, etc. ?
@lila I checked the aquarium, it doesn't open easily
I didn't check in detail but it was a small one. Maybe 100x50x40 or something in cm.
:D
00:29
I'll send a photo when I move there
I have to know how expensive the fish are, in case Sonny indulges himself :)
Btw, the sound alert from the chat room makes me remember stand by me. The bass is very similar :)
@C.Koca I would consider something like this to be giant! Mine is 41x25x25 cm and this is really small. On the other hand, I have read many opinions than anything less than 80 liters is considered to be NANO tank. Not small, but NANO. 200 L could be small then :o
I checked like 10 seconds and focused on the lid for the 8 of them :)
I might be mistaken
@C.Koca I looked at the title and wanted to immediately tell you "never heard this, but I will check out", but I decided to check out first, and I now I know that I have heard this song more than a million times :D
@lila It is really famous :)
@C.Koca It is softer in the song, the chat one is sharp, I don't think I would make that connection, but yes it is quite similar
00:36
@lila I don't have the ear for instruments. If you say so, it probably is :)

@C.Koca Fun fact: in Germany we have a category of songs called "Schlager", which loosely translates to "blockbuster" or "top seller". It differs from "pop" in that songs are traditionally sung in German, have a strong but steady 4/4th rythm and are generally liked by the older population. Last year for new years eve my family watched a long show called "the big Schlager countdown" and lo and behold, according to their calculations Rammstein "Engel" had to be counted as a "schlager" XD.
If you're interested, here's a short list of typical Schlager from 2020. The second one even took an existing english pop song and just replaced the lyrics with german. youtu.be/2Mg5MVDG1Zw

I bountied my first bounty! How exciting :D

@Elmy Waaahahaha!!!
I'm not responsible for the content, it was the first search result XD
And I think you missed a major clientele: drunk partying. From Apres-Ski to Oktoberfest.
Discofox.
On that note: There’s hope that the dancing schools are going to open up, like, this week. Keeping my fingers crossed!

@lila I've tried them (we have a giant candy store that sells every form of licorice you can imagine, and there's an Ikea down the road from me that also sells one or two varieties). I love sweet black licorice, but I just can't choke down the "salty" kind.
A lot of people hate all black/real licorice flavor, though, it's a polarizing flavor

@Elmy Engel looked much smoother than other Rammstein songs :) I am not surprised it is in Schlager list
@SerenaT Congrats!
14:43
hi
@Elmy THE GREAT POLISH FIREWALL :/
"Video unavailable; the uploader did not make this video available in your nation." :/
@C.Koca youtu.be/tdOaCJluHjA and youtu.be/Yk1w5j3hFEI are also by Ramstein, but never got much fame
15:10
hi
hi
@lila hmm, maybe this one: youtu.be/SrqJnw6rrcg. It's a playlist representing the most popular Schlager hits from several decades. Typical for german culture, but not exactly loved by everyone
@Elmy works thanks
@lila and please don't forget to imagine Ramstein in that playlist ;)
15:40
@Elmy now I understand, thanks! nice music btw!
In this cover (these men are Ukrainian) they are saying (phonetic) "[...] Nemeckom narodnom pisniju "ty mene spytales"" which means "[...] German folk song "you have asked me"" (Ukrainian and Polish are really similar) :D
@lila Really? I always assume Polish is very far from all languages
@C.Koca All Slavic languages are really close, some are more far away from each other but they all stem from the same common ancestor (as far as I know); Ukrainian is supposedly more similar to Polish than Ukrainian is to Russian; I think the reason why they may seem far away is because Ukrainian, Russian, and many else use different alphabet (Cyrilic) while Polish, Czech, etc. use Greek alphabet.
@lila LOL. Also a Ramstein cover that gives me goosbumps youtu.be/s74qZ_SiGnc
@Elmy beautiful and sad, thanks!
16:31
Goodbye for the summer! I'll miss you all!
@Nai45 Have a great summer!

18:18
@lila What? Poles use Greek alphabet? You mean Latin?
I can read the cyrillic alphabet. It helps a lit with so many words and expressions
It only helps when you get into a Russian website to click: Я не робот
19:16
@C.Koca Wow sorry yes I mean Latin alphabet :D only Greeks use Greek alphabet :D I am embarrassing myself :D
@C.Koca I also learnt this alphabet about 10 years ago (memorized the Latin counterparts) but I still cannot read it "fluently", it takes me a a few, up to 20 seconds to read one single word :/
19:41
@Nai45 Goodbye and have a beautiful summer, please spend as much time outdoors as you can, get all the benefits of the regular sunlight exposure, and God forbid you from wasting more than 0.1% of this precious summer time behind the screen, you will thank me later for this; see you have fun!!!
@C.Koca I know a few tricks to "simulate" Cyrilic alphabet with only ASCII characters (it's ugly but it works if you use your imagination): Я не робот becomes 9| He po6oT.
No activity for last 48 hours in this Q&A pets.meta.stackexchange.com/q/2357 and I had to add a fact myself, but I cannot use this data system so my trivia fact is quite lame. What do you think about adding a second "answer" post where people who cannot use the data system could edit in their own questions?
"I would like to know the user with the longest streak of consecutive days online."
"I would like to know the user who has rejected the most edit suggestions."
20:01
@lila There's a trick: if you follow the link in the question there's a long list of queries that were written by other users. You can browse the headlines and try a few of them. Some don't work well for Pets because they were written for bigger sites, but most should at least get 1 result.
I have only ever written 2 queries myself. For the rest I only used quesries that already existed
(You might have to click on [Queries] in the center top, where there are buttons for [Home] [Queries] [Users])
I only realized now that I should have written this directly in the event question. I'm sorry I excluded anyone who wasn't familiar with the tool. That wasn't my intention at all :(
21:08
@Elmy Oh thanks, maybe I will try some time, but it does not change the fact that I would not even understand what I am doing most of the time; it is okay do not worry please, you did not exclude anyone in my opinion and nobody blames you, some people know how to use this tool and some don't, it is not your responsibility to babysit those who don't know ...
@Elmy how to use the tool, but rather our responsibility to learn using it or, if we do not want to learn it, come in terms with reality; at least my personal opinion is that I didn't feel 'excluded' at all; please do not feel guilty, I greatly enjoy the trivia facts and appreciate those people who took their time to learn using that tool and then shared the trivia facts resulting from the use of that tool.
