doesn't do that for me
it stops after 10 seconds
It probably is just something to do with having to play catchup, then. That would explain why it's different on different machines
it shouldn't be playing catchup though
 worker.onmessage = function (e) {
            if (e.data.session != sessioncode || !runButton.innerHTML.includes('fa-spin')) {
                return;
            }
            if (e.data.command == "done") {
                runButton.innerHTML = '<i class="fas fa-play-circle"></i>';
            }
            else if (e.data.command == "error") {
                extra.value += e.data.val; expandBoxes();
            }
            else { output.value += e.data.val; expandBoxes() }
        }
        if (runButton.innerHTML.includes('fa-spin')) {
I already account for it catching up
> Technically the print requests will be queued by the browser, but they won't be acted upon.
from the 3.1.0 release notes
idk man
very strange
i just tried that and it took 10.65 seconds
browser?
00:12
ah
I use firefox
I tried it in bing and yeah it does keep going
sorry, edge :p
so it's just a garbo browser thing, oh well
I wonder if other chromium browsers would have the same issue
edge is a chromium browser
yeah I'm wondering if others would have the same or if it's just those two
just kinda wondering out loud
00:18
happens on vivaldi mobile
00:39
how do you run the interpreter with node.js?
AMiller42 created branch more-exception-tweaks in Vyxal/Vyxal
@AaroneousMiller you don't
personally, I use http-server
oh for some reason I thought that was a thing
I use that as well, I just wanted to make sure I was accounting for everything
the only requirement for testing is that you host it as a webserver
00:45
because the worker requires it to be so
so it 100% seems to be because of the output
running only an infinite loop makes it time out correctly on chromium
01:01
okay so it looks like it's a chromium issue
I made a MVCE
in firefox, the "do stuff with worker" button alerts "finished" after a second
in edge, it took 7.6 seconds
must be to do with how timeouts and console logs are scheduled

Q: setTimeout callbacks have different execution orders in Firefox and Chrome

UnitTsetWhen I run this code in Firefox and Chrome, the results are different: function run() { setTimeout(() => console.log("1"), 0); setTimeout(() => console.log("2"), 100); let start = Date.now(); while (Date.now() - start < 200) { // do nothing } setTimeout(() => { console.log("3"...

yay, not our fault!
01:23
A potential solution would be to send the time out from inside the worker
Because ultimately it's the one controlling the order of events
01:40
[user] Using setInterval?
[user] Can JS processes stop themselves?
Nah put the set time out in the worker and post a termination message
Let main thread do the cancellation
So like this.postMessage({command: "terminate"})
And you'd have a message listener to kill the process

I'm currently working on some more error handling stuff. I noticed that the stack traces that were being returned weren't quite the full trace, so I'm correcting that. Additionally, I'm changing the all of the error handling to be done within the interpreter itself, so the JVM and JS code only has to worry about outputting the errors, not handling them.
👍
I'm looking into how to fix the catching up problem
Also I'm making it so that unrecognized errors will explicitly state where they came from, e.g. Runtime, Lexing, Parsing, etc. There's now a few exceptions for unrecognized errors, which will still be caught and returned as VyxalException subclasses. I'm going to bed now, but once this is finished, all errors that are thrown should be a VyxalException in some fashion.
Okay so I think I have a solution which is a little bit of a shame, but it'll work
Disable live output and make it so that the messages sent will all be printed at once
So instead of immediately displaying upon receiving a message, the print value is placed into a list
That list is then joined into a single string before printing
Could you do a compromise of printing all accumulated messages every, say, 1s?
Live output would be toggleable with a flag
@emanresuA I'll see if all at once even works
Because it could still end up taking priority over the time out
(also, putting the time out in the worker doesn't work, it sits there not firing because I think the execute function is blocking)
Gotta love when UI updates have higher priority than timers
Hey wait what if then the "add to page" part was itself wrapped in a timer
That way it'd effectively have same priority in terms of being chosen from a large queue of tasks
It'd be wrapped in a 0 delay settimeout

zero fill?
@lyxal nice
@Pacmanboss256 you mean element?
yeah the one that pads leading zeros
14:49
Probably doesn't exist yet
when it does, can it overload a list so that you can make a list of digits have leading zeroes to match another list
Open an issue so that doesn't get lost in transcript

@Ginger page turning noise oh sorry, sorry, sorry. Hope that didn't disturb you too much then. It was the sound of books. Pages being turned.

thanks wheatley
portal ref!
Also, new bounty claimer just dropped
automated bounty notifications when
@lyxal you can edit that pin, I've fixed the bug
also quick reminder that the best way to notify me about a problem with the bot is to open an issue
also also quick reminder that the Discord PR needs reviews
Tomorrow
I am very much not doing code reviews right noe
right
14:56
I'm not even supposed to be here rn
This is a one off
@Ginger done btw
Wow it's nice to be able to freely edit messages to fix formatting issues
cool
Definitely something you'd get used to and then experience culture shock when you don't have it anymore :p
also nice rep number
really proud of this one
