Q: The Beat-Generation and European romanticism interest in the exotic and the folk

StarckmanIs the Beat-Generation interest in black culture (Jazz, Blues) and Asian culture (Buddhism, Taoism) similar to the German romantic interest in the folk cultures? In terms of how these cultures were explored and understood by the artists, and integrated in their theory and art pieces?

Abbreviation of the day: OPOJAZ - "Society for the Study of Poetic Language"
OPOJAZ (ОПОЯЗ) (Russian: Общество изучения Поэтического Языка, Obščestvo izučenija POètičeskogo JAZyka, "Society for the Study of Poetic Language") was a prominent group of linguists and literary critics in St. Petersburg founded in 1916 and dissolved by the early 1930s. The group included Viktor Shklovsky, Boris Eikhenbaum, Osip Brik, Boris Kušner and Yury Tynianov. Along with the Moscow linguistic circle it was responsible for the development of Russian formalism and literary semiotics. It was dissolved under political pressure as "formalism" came to be a political term of opprobrium in the...

Q: Is this comment about Jane Fairfax's curiosity about a character trait or a comment on the specific circumstance?

MithicalIn Jane Austen's Emma, when Miss Bates is talking about Mr. Elton's recent engagement, she mentions that Jane is curious to see him, which is then followed by a narrator statement about Jane's curiosity: 'A new neighbour for us all, Miss Woodhouse!' said Miss Bates joyfully; 'my mother is so ple...

@Randal'Thor That's good to know. I assumed [ts]?hey? were the same person and briefly wondered why [ts]?hey? would delete their account on the one but retain it on the other. (From my rep on LitSE, SO, and SA, a casual observer could easily deduce the relative amounts of time I've spent and continue to spend on reading, coding, and cooking.)
@Randal'Thor Thanks! But I beg your pardon, I didn't slink into the top five. I slithered. H'm, it's the first time I've ever had more rep than a mod, on any site. But it's still pretty close here. A couple of well-chosen unupvotes, and the chucker of rugs would be above me again.
Speaking of slinking: the verb shimmied over to the noun at the bar. "Hey, baby," said the verb, "wanna conjugate?" The noun declined.
@verbose I think you had more rep than Gallifreyan while he was still a mod?
@Randal'Thor oh you may be right. I don't remember. I've been wondering about Gallifreyan, because IIRC he's in Turkey and some interesting goings-on are afoot in that part of the world rn
He was studying in Turkey but not originally from there, so he might not be there any more. Not sure.
But yeah, election night is on.
@Randal'Thor ah, good to know

Q: What did Adam Smith mean by "money price of labour" in "The Wealth of Nations"?

Ryan AbomeyFrom chapiter V chapter V of An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith: Though the real value of a corn rent, it is to be observed, however, varies much less from century to century than that of a money rent, it varies much more from year to year. The money pri...
