Q: Symbolism and romanticism as literary movements

user1365680I'm trying to understand the difference between Symbolism and Romanticism as literary movements. Q: Was Lapine ever developed beyond the small glossary in Watership Down?

Rand al'ThorOne of the interesting features of Richard Adams's novel Watership Down is his invented language "Lapine" spoken by rabbits in the story. Mostly, of course, the rabbits are shown speaking in English, but we do get a fair few words of their vocabulary (hrair, thlay, yona, pfeffa, and so on) as wel...

4:14 PM
@Bookworm This question about literary theory versus cultural studies has just gone HNQ.

4:28 PM
@Randal'Thor Well, the ELL version of it maybe.

@NapoleonWilson I meant in becoming very high on the list of most-used author tags mostly due to a single user posting multiple questions per day.

I've decided to hide temporarily, so that I can see the other questions on this site (which I find more interesting)

Tsundoku and verbose have been making out like bandits with Swimming in the Dark answers ;-)
Congratulations @Tsundoku, now you have the most answers of anyone on the site.

Do they have Rep Hunter hats?

Dunno, I'm not really following the hattery this year.

4:33 PM
This is my first year so everything is shiny and new

Yeah, I was also really into it for my first two years on SE :-) Since then my interest in Winter Bash has declined year by year. Now I'm not even bothering to check meta for the triggers of the secret hats I'm getting.

@Randal'Thor I know what you meant and replied to it, yes.
But I mixed up the sites, so your confusion is understandable. Should be fixed now.

4:53 PM
@bobble Yes, except that it does not look like a hat ...
And I reached 248 reps today, a virtual mortarboard.

I actually don't have the Disciple hat any more (my headphones) but I can still wear it for some reason

I suppose you didn't take it off, so somehow it's still on your avatar?

I wonder if the "What does ... mean in this context?" titles should be changed to something a bit more tailored/descriptive?

Yep, and I also don't think they would let me adjust it

For example, in the most recent one, wouldn't "In this passage from Swimming in the Dark, does 'bottles' refer to alcoholic drinks?" be a better title than "What does 'bottles' mean in this context?"
It'd mean a lot of editing, though.
@Tsundoku what do you think?

4:56 PM
I would be willing to do the title clean-up if you want

I suppose some editing wouldn't hurt. You're right.

Shall I start suggesting some edits?

Yes, go ahead :-)
@Randal'Thor That shows how bad I am at predicting things.

ack some of the title-quotes are long
Is it okay to quote a bit less in the title for brevity's sake?

Huh, there is another Verbose?

5:05 PM
hmm, confused how to succinctly summarize this question in the title. Will move on to other ones

It seems difficult to include the novel's title without making the question title overly long. Perhaps its better to leave out the suggested meaning?

ah sorry
was trying to copy Rand's idea above
I can stop and let others take over

Yeah, including the book name in the title isn't necessary. There's a general SE thing that including tags in titles isn't necessary, although often it does help disambiguate.

feel free to edit over the titles then

Our QPD is currently att 7.4.

5:19 PM
okay I suggested 10 edits
stopping for now, may return later today
and re-ignoring the tag, thank goodness

7:06 PM
@Bookworm Even this question about the nuns' convent in Swimming in the Dark reached HNQ.

@Randal'Thor I still disagree with that. In most contexts you don't see the tags, so it can be worth including the title or author of the work. Not that I always include it, I admit.
Oh wow! Most of the questions are now answered.\

7:23 PM
But we still have 1031 unanswered questions.

I just answered a question! Look at how helpful I am.
also, thanks for catching typos Rand!

I now know for certain that handling a flag is one of the triggers for the Vexillologist hat (I have just earned that hat after handling a flag on French Language SE). But it's not the only one since non-moderators can also earn that hat.
