Q: Are flash fiction submission sites worth it?

Adil ELbourichiI come from a computer science background but I have always had an interest in literature. Since I have free time recently, I wrote a couple of very short stories, less than 100 or 101 words, and submitted them to some websites for review. I am a complete beginner as a writer but I have a lot o...

Q: The born of Poetry

antoniov.joelAnswer to a question about how did literature or music have born would be impossible to do, however I would like to know if some of you people have read or have done an attempt to answer how did poetry born. Perhaps, some people would be in the temptation to place this after writting has apperead...

@GarethRees Thank you. I realise it's petty, but when an OP is that unpleasant about an answer, it makes me feel like they're not entitled to whatever minor use they might get from having that answer around.

@MattThrower For what it's worth, I flagged the comment as "unkind" and a moderator deleted it. When I get a downvote or a dismissive comment, I try to remember that an answer is for everyone who might come across it in future, not just for a single critic. Even the critic might be over-reacting because the answer wasn't what they thought they wanted, but I can hope they will have second thoughts later.

Yes, please whatever you do, don't delete valuable answers out of spite, that hurts the entirety of the site and its users and future visitors.
In fact I would encourage the moderators to look into whatever answer this is about and possibly undelete it if it has a positive score or is otherwise valuable.

For example, he uses celestial imagery in Romeo and Juliet, which is the reference to the stars, sun, moon, and heavens run throughout the play, and taken as a whole that imagery seems to express a different view of h...

Q: In "Memories of Childhood" by Zitkala-Sa and Bama, why are these 2 seemingly unrelated excerpts being presented together?

DivMitThe short story "Memories of Childhood" by Zitkala-Sa and Bama (a short five minute read) is on my curriculum; I think they are two excerpts from 2 different books presented together. But what I fail to understand is why has this been done. These 2 are seemingly unrelated. While the first one t...

Q: Use of language in the "West Side Story"

JustinHow does the author make use of language in the "West Side Story"? For example, Shakespeare uses rhyming couplets - "For never was a story of more woe/than this of Juliet and her Romeo." - in "Romeo and Juliet" which makes the audience feel sympathetic towards Romeo and Juliet, as it recognizes ...
