the argument against her seems to be that she lacks experience with CGCC, but I think this community really isn't that different from PLDI, especially given how PLDI came to be in the first place

@Ginger Yes, before, I existed as a nameless, formless being in the void, just beyond the bounds of this world. Not even a being, really, merely a part of the nonexistence that is the other side, indistinct from the rest of it. But then Bbrk24 installed your userscript and gave me a pronoun set and there I was - no longer merely a part of something intangible but an entity all by myself, complete with a body, a mind, and a huge-ass pimple on my nose.

The hertzbleed followup paper is stored as 2h2b.pdf on the website and I kind of wonder if their internal name for it was "2hertz2bleed"

Well, we painted the fence. 160 people showed up, and 10 organizations officially contributed. Biggest fence painting since 9/11.

I believe we've discussed before why using joke pronouns is harmful, but just to have a hard policy to point to, I'm going to summarize (and anyone who has something to say, feel free to jump in, I use the pronouns I was assigned at birth so I may miss something another perspective would offer)

It's been a week since the proposal for an RO election was posted. Currently, the proposal to move forward using the suggested mechanism is at +14/-0. Any final opposition to moving forward with it?

Got an induction stove recently. It starts by heating one atom as a baseline, then incrementally heats each additional atom by building on the prior one

Q: Chat upgrade incoming! No feature changes, but major under-the-hood work

balphaTL;DR We'll be deploying a new version of Chat that has significant under-the-hood changes. Ideally you won't notice anything, but just in case, here's what's happening: Likely on Wednesday, October 23, chat.meta gets the new version. I'll be in the Tavern when I deploy the change, so if you not...

@lyxal Last week I saw two kids (around 8-11 I think) running up to random people and just literally singing Never Gonna Give You Up. Glad to see the tradition alive in the next generation.

@user I'm getting tired of the PHP user stigma. It's not a moral failing to use PHP. You can't control it. It's a medical condition, not a crime. I'm glad people are starting to recognize that.

So hear me out, but I think that if we put enough pressure on the people who own StackExcahnge, that they would rename every site to be ButterExchange. I think that would be great and a really good addition to the network. It'd be a butterwork (rather than a network).

There is a long history, both on- and offline, of jokes being made about pronouns and how people outside the traditional gender binary identify (e.g., the "I identify as an attack helicopter" joke). These jokes are made at the expense of people who already may struggle to get others to recognize and respect their identity
