Here's my first fun project of 2022. I've been renovating an old house and just finished with these glass blocks in a cavity next to the chimney. The window in the room behind the blocks is west-facing so I wanted to see what time of year the sun will shine directly through it.

@ChrisK I started with version 1 on a Mac Plus and I'm old enough to have forgotten about DisplayFunction.

who here is old enough to remember DisplayFunction -> Identity / DisplayFunction -> $DisplayFunction? 🙋‍♂️

@ChrisK Interesting Topics in Wolfram Technology Conference keynote as always, e.g. about Standalone Application Bundling with Wolfram Engine from 2:04:10 to 2:06:00. This Bundler is supposed to come out in a few months and will result in only 160 MB for command line applications. Really? I believe it when I see it...

@VitaliyKaurov pretty slick but I can't help but feel the energy would be better committed to making a proper Mathematica extension for Jupyter

I am extremely frustrated with the bugginess of the graph functionality. From now on I am going to post every bug I find on Wolfram Community, to make it plain to everybody how bad a state the system is.

fyi. Mathematica DSolve continues to improve. Good job to WRI. Rebuild collection of PDE's for updated versions of CAS systems Maple and Mathematica. This is current result. Currently there are 2,013 PDE's in the test suite. % passed:

Mathematica V12.1 71.98%
Mathematica V12 65.47%
Mathematica V11.3 53.68%

Q: SE Uploader started to fail. Unable to upload image to this site from notebook

NasserIn the last few days, I noticed the Pallette SE Uploader keeps giving a Java error each time I try to upload an image. I select a cell and click on Image button then choose upload image to Stackexchange Then get lots of Java errors Java::excptn: A Java exception occurred: de.halirutan.se.tools...

I am looking for a student that is interested in doing an internship spring/summer on modeling with partial differential equations using NDSolve. This internship can be remote despite what the full announcement says. If anyone here is interested please let me know or if you could forward this to potentially interested people I'd appreciate that. Thanks.

Hey guys! Just wanted to give you all a heads-up that we're going to be starting a new weekly livestream series tomorrow! These will occur every Wednesday at noon (CDT) and will be interactive sessions with the Wolfram developers. This is your chance to talk with our developers (without Stephen) and to ask questions, get demos of new functionality from the people who created them, make suggestions for future features, etc. We'll be using the usual livestream channels (Wolfram Twitch and YouTube)

@RohitNamjoshi @kirkus thank you this answers my question. I was too naive and expected that WRI would cover this: its a bit strange IMHO to highlight as novelty of a new version something which is typically not accessible without extra cost!

@Szabolcs Is there an off-site backup of mathematica.se? a sort of doomsday vault of all our awesome Q&As?

well done Version 12 with DSolve. Mathematica 12 performed much better than Mathematica 11.3 both in the number of PDE's problems solved and in the speed it solved them. Link here 12000.org/my_notes/pde_in_CAS/pde_in_cas.htm Version 12 seems much faster than 11.3.

"We believe the current release of Mathematica addresses an issue you reported in Jan 2016" ... holding breath while waiting for issues to get resolved is strongly discouraged. ;)

@bRost03 I don't know if you hang out here at all but Excellent answer: mathematica.stackexchange.com/questions/251543/…. And some of the "odd" responses you're getting with that answer have happened to many of us. So far yours are pretty mild.

Hi, I'd like to announce the update to the FEMAddOns paclet 1.3.1 This new version has three finite element application examples that came from outside of WRI. Anyone that has some FEM related things they worked on and would like to share, you are most welcome to contribute. Also watches, stars and especially forks are well received ;-)
