Anyone know if it's possible to use a net to test how probable an input is?
Like given a sequence [a_n] how probable a given a_n+1 is

12:49 AM
@CarlLange I'm looking forward to some day being able to use a CloudDeployed output in a standard HTML page.
That way I could avoid lots of issue with rasterization and just include the content directly

@ArnoudBuzing, ok thanks, I am looking at the youtube link now...

Literally, the first thing I did with Mathematica 12 was open up a documentation page, copy over the code to a notebook to run it, and discover that the highlighting on copied code is wrong.
The notebook on the right is Mathematica 12 and the one on the left is 11. No matter how many times you evaluate either of the cells in 12, volume stays blue...
But I'm sure it's much better in other respects, I need to use it more.

Here's another unfortunate 12.0 change. OptionQ doesn't apply to Association anymore.
It did all through 11

Seriously?!?! The second thing I did was type "OptionQ" into the documentation center and it crashed Mathematica. Not just the notebook, the whole thing.

Oh, yeah, wow, i reproduce that crash as well
@C.E. Did you submit a bug report?

No... after restart it works

so it does...

7:25 AM
Okay I will risk it and see what happens to...
Hmm is working for me but maybe that's because 12 has already crashed/hung for me 5 times today
So I've hit my restart quota :)
On the other hand 5 times is not a terrible crash rate for a day given what I tend to ask the FE to do

:P
Mathematica almost never crashes for me and I suspect this will be the case with the new notebook as well, but I'm usually very nice to it.

@C.E. yeah between my undocumented usage and asking it to make me heavy duty graphics with tons of points or very large matrices etc. it likes to crash
Also sometimes I miss my brackets and type RandomReal[{}, RandomInteger[15, 25]] ;____;
And then my computer freezes as Mathematica tries to eat every piece of memory I have

8:00 AM
It looks like XMLTemplate application might be broken in 12 too -___-
Ah nevermind it's System`Convert`TextDump`PlaintextImport :)

well done Version 12 with DSolve. Mathematica 12 performed much better than Mathematica 11.3 both in the number of PDE's problems solved and in the speed it solved them. Link here 12000.org/my_notes/pde_in_CAS/pde_in_cas.htm Version 12 seems much faster than 11.3.

People on Windows: could someone test is Writeing to NUL actually creates a file called NUL or if it acts the same as /dev/null on Unix (i.e. output disappears)?

Q: GraphDistance error when Graph vertices are Associations

ConvexMartianBug introduced in 10.0 or earlier and fixed in 12.0 Note: Associations are new in 10.0 Here is a nice graph whose vertices are Associations: g = Graph[{ <|"n" -> 1|> -> <|"n" -> 2|>, <|"n" -> 1|> -> <|"n" -> 3|>, <|"n" -> 2|> -> <|"n" -> 4|>, <|"n" -> 3|> -> <|"n" -> 4|>}, Vert...

It fixed this bug though.

-_- I wish they had just picked a convention and stuck with it but it looks like that bug fix could have come out of changing the way OptionQ works
@CarlLange:
Unfortunately these things seem to be rendered as two characters, and you can delete or select either and if you do that you get a broken result
So... not perfect
Oh and if you evaluate a broken emoji you crash the kernel
Also breaks if you try to pass it to the kernel in any way. For anyone who wants to crash a kernel:
ToExpression@RowBox[{"StringLength", "@", "\"\<\:d83d\>\""}]]
I had to copy that in two pieces: one halfway through the "\"\<\:d8 and then one resuming from 3d\>\"" since you can't copy a string containing one of these things either apparently.

4:13 PM
@C.E. I've been seeing that since 11.0. Where sometimes, the symbols won't turn from blue to black. Can never reliably reproduce it, and hits me about every other week.

@user6014 ok, maybe it's not new but obviously I was primed towards finding problems when I opened 12 for the first time.

@C.E. That is how things go!

4:31 PM
@user6014 @C.E. that's generally an issue for me right after a fresh kernel start. What fixes it (usually) is evaluating Internal`SymbolLists[True] and then Remove-ing the affected symbols and defining them again.
Basically the FE symbol tracking mechanism got confused and need to relearn its symbols
You can also force it to recognize them again using what's here

4:43 PM
@b3m2a1 Yes, I have already sent them a bug report about high-register characters crashing the kernel. :(

Hello everybody

6:27 PM
Guys we created new group:
Wolfram Function Repository
https://community.wolfram.com/content?curTag=wolfram%20function%20repository

Which is also suitable for SUGGESTIONS of new functions. Please feel free to post there your ideas!
...and alos of course discussions of existing functions in that repo

when I did:
Write[File["NONUL"], "wolfnultest"]
Write[File["NUL"], "wolfnultest"]
and checked $UserDocumentsDirectory I only see the file NONUL.

Something of a bug in v12: Import can't import a CSV already opened in Excel. v11 was able to do this. Anyone else have this?

8:50 PM
@SjoerdC.deVries I know that lots of changes were made to CSV import and in certain scenarios the performance is much better in 12.0

9:16 PM
I would love to see some updates to the GrammarRules and friends functions in a future version. They feel very 1.0 to me
